Bought this TV based on rave reviews from Verge and rtings. Bought mine and it had severe uniformity issues which I have read is pretty common. Totally unwatchable. Best buy made returning it super easy which I really appreciate. I spent $50 more and picked up the Vizio P series when BB had it on sale. Huge improvement over the TCL.

After passing on last years TCL TV offerings, I was eagerly awaiting the 2018 models to become available. Finally after mich deliberation I decided to take a chance with the 55R615 to replace a high end Samsung circa 2015. To be blunt, I am floored at the upgrade. The colors, crispness, motion, everything is spot on and beautiful. The 4K and HDR is amazing and even the standard cable signal looks much better! Both my PS4 and Xbox1 look noticably better, even before enabeling HDR. And the built in Roku is on par with my Roku Premier stand alone box. I can say without question the picture quality, with regards to the screen is flawless. NO BANDING, NO DIRTY SCREEN, NO EDGE DISTORTION, NOTHING BUT A BEAUTIFULLY FLAWLESS VIEWING EXPIERENCE! The build quality is good with a near high end look, and the roku remote just works as well as it is simple. I took a chance with all of the negative reviews and I am glad I did, because it is a wonderful TV. Thank you TCL for pushing the envelope for all TV manufacturers and delivering a budget TV that rivals almost all high end sets. If you are on the fence, do not hesitate, its a beautiful TV at a excellent price.

Holy Smokes - Eye-popping color & HDR, 96 local dimming zones, and dark inky blacks with detail for less than $500! What's not to like? Picture & features comparable to sets almost 3 times this price. Love, love, love this. Classy narrow dark metal bezel ain't too shabby either. The only bad so far: Viewing angle is narrow - head-on is really the only way, cheapie remote - glad I have a Harmony universal, which I recommend. Deal of the season.

    I AM SPEACHLESS

1st of all, let me preface this review by stating that I do not have any of the issues stated by other reviewers. I don't have any banding, screen door effect, or vignetting. When viewing a single color across the whole screen, the corners are ever so slightly darker, but it did not affect viewing of movies. This is definitely the best value tv of 2018. The picture is simply breathtaking. The HDR performance is superbe, even though I've only viewed select scenes from my 4K Blu-Ray collection and not an entire movie thus far. Coming from a 2016 curved Samsung, the roku interface is going to take some time to get used to. I really loved samsung's smart interface, but the roku one is excellent as well. The picture settings are extensive. Just note that to access the advanced settings you have to press the Astrix key on the remote while viewing content. Even though the refresh rate is only 60 Hz, there are multiple levels of motion smoothing, and I have mine set to medium, so it prevents jutter without adding the soap opera effect. I also have my brightness set to brighter, and picture mode set to dark HDR. The sharpness also defaults to about 20, and I recommend setting it to 0. Otherwise I left all of the other picture settings as is, as suggested by CNET. Over all, I highly highly recommend this TV for someone just getting into 4K and HDR, it's amazing value for money. PS: I installed my legs facing in, to better fit my TV stand, and the inside distance between the legs is 27 and 3/8th inches

I hate this Tv. Yes, that is a strong word. I am a mom and when I went into settings to set this tv up initially, the Ruko has screen savers to choose from. Their were more than I could count that were naked women. This is not something you could block since it was in the settings. DO NOT BUY ROKU TV.

    GREAT value

I had been researching TVs since Summer and wanted to upgrade from a 50" 720p plasma to something modern. I'm a PC gamer so I wanted 4k, a smooth UI (Roku OS is waaay smoother than the other offerings), and LOW input lag (Rtings.com showed it at under 18ms with game mode on). I have had nothing but a fantastic experience with this TV so far considerinf how picky I am. The banding/dirty screen effect some people have experienced is non-existent on my unit, and the 1080p input from my Steam link to stream my PC to the TV looks nearly as good as native 4k. The local dimming is totally noticable even without HDR content (I don't even have any to play) and it just looks... great. Build quality is a bit thicker than some other TVs but it is so well built and solid feeling, I feel like I could mine diamonds with the two stand feet (yes they CAN be reversed inwards and does not look as silly as you'd think. Just make sure you screw them in really tight). Love the metallic industrial finish. Remote is small but easy to use and having the remote app on your phone makes things even easier. The built in speakers are loud and clear for dialogue but have absolutely no bass. I got a nice samsung soundbar and sub combo 50% off for black friday and it's great. I didn't have to adjust for audio delay, even on PC mode with gaming mode on, vs my Bluray player that has gaming mode off (more lag), with lots of picture processing. You won't be disappointed by this TV for 600$ or less.

The audio on this POS did not function! The TCL tech support told me it was my cable service or the Roku programming. Not. Tv channels would randomly lose all audio or play SAP. Could not get it to play audio reliably after hours with tech support. I returned it and got a Sony. Don't waste your money or time!

    Buy this TV!

Let's start with, I'm no expert. We're an average family looking to ditch the cable monopoly. We started out with the Samsung 7100(?). We tried really hard to make that TV work. After many hours on the phone and online chatting with Samsung, Direct TV NOW, etc. ..Baffled when it was suggested add a streamer to my smart tv and frustrated overall. I decided to bail on the Samsung... I went with the TCL 6 series based on sales persons recommendations. The TCL was super easy to set up, has fantastic pic, motion keeps up (ice hockey - the puck is in real time), The apps are super easy to install and easy to use. I'm extremely satisfied with this tv! I also bought the Polk Signa 2 sound bar which sounds great and works great with this tv. IF you're looking for an excellent tv with a low budget (crazy that 500.00 is on the low end!) Buy this TV! .. I don't normally write reviews.

Stunning Image... most of the time.

I did my research before purchasing the 55-inch model of the TCL 6 series. I read all the praise about the picture quality, color, and black levels as well as all the complaints about the vertical banding, DSE, and, "panel lottery". What I found upon bringing the TV home and giving it a try is that everyone, whether they were praising or panning the TV, was right. The image is amazing for a sub-$600 TV. Under most viewing conditions it is a feast for the eyes. But, when the screen is mostly solid white or gray and there is panning movement, you sometimes see vertical bars or get that "Dirty Screen Effect" which looks like you are looking through a screen door. I'm not sure I would have noticed it had I not read about it before hand. In the panel I got it is fairly subtle, but I understand it varies a lot from TV to TV. Thus the "panel lottery" that is often mentioned. Perhaps TCL actually stands for "The Consumer Lottery" as there is apparently a lot of inconsistency in their products. It's difficult to rate this TV. 90% of the time I am viewing it I would give it 5 stars. But that 10% of the time, when those bands and distracting muddiness are visible, it really can impact the viewing experience. The banding/DSE issue is so widespread I am surprised TCL has done nothing to address it publicly, but maybe acknowledging it as a problem would be too risky financially for them. As it stands, I would say 3 stars is a fair rating for product that is nearly great, but marred by some issues. Whether this is truly a quality control issue at the factory or a problem inherent in the design of the set, only TCL knows for sure. From what I have read some people have returned 2 or even 3 TVS but kept getting the same issue each them they brought a new one home, so I would say only purchase this TV if you feel you can live with this issue. Otherwise, save your money and buy a more expensive set that you will be able to fully enjoy.

I bought this TV to replace my LG 43uh6030. I originally went in for a toshiba 55 inch but the TV guy sold me on this one. So far I have to say I love it! My first reaction to unboxing this thing was how heavy it was! Jeez.. It caught me off guard a hit. This thing is almost 40 pounds.. That's crazy! Wall mounting is definitely gonna need two people..so be prepared for that. My second reaction was my disappointment at the basic remote. They didn't have the 55r617 which is $50 bucks more but nets you the Alexa smart remote. Definitely would make navigating easier than clicking and scrolling. Being able to push a button and say Alexa open sling tv as opposed to finding it in your list. The setup was easy and ended with a remote tutorial and a roku synopsis. After installing the feet to place on my entertainment center I realized they hung over the edge and stayed propped up weird.. I thought either I was gonna have to return it or get a bigger entertainment center. After my initial disappointment I looked up a few videos and was ecstatic to see the feet inverted.. I crossed my fingers and turned then around and... Boom...perfect fit! Now I get to the picture settings and review. My initial reaction to the picture was ehhh...I kinda felt my LG was better. I looked up a few videos on optimal settings for the model and most had them the same. With brighter and the movie seeing with the led motion clarity on. My personal preferences are for a great picture are as follows... TV brightness = brighter Picture mode = normal Picture size = direct Audio effect = theater *Advanced picture settings are. Picture mode = normal Local contrast = high Backlight = 100 The rest stayed the same Color temp = normal Everything else off After messing around with it and struggling for a bit on how to get to the picture settings I found the above to look amazing to me. Everyone's preferences are going to be different im sure, but these work for me. After feeling I got them to a good point I put the settings and the TV to the real test. Playing a ps4 game that will really push the colors to the limit and to see how the HDR capabilities measured up. Obviously you have to have a game that enables and switches to HDR. I chose Far Cry 5 and one word described that experience... WOW! The frame rate was steady without having to switch over to game mode. The colors were fantastic the blacks were nice and dark. Trekking through the forests of Utah felt amazing, I could see what felt like miles away. This purchase was made to hold me over till black Friday where I planned getting an oled true 4k TV.. But I think this is going to hopefully hold me over for a while longer! The sound isn't horrible but it isn't great either. If it's in a bedroom it should be fine but if you're using this as your living room whole family TV, you're gonna want to invest in a nice soundbar. Overall I am happy with my purchase, I am happy I went up a hundred bucks and got this TCL instead of the other tv I had planned on. I would definitely recommend. I only have one day with it but so far so good. Great job TCL...only complaint is they should've included the Alexa smart remote on all 6 series models.

I've had the set for about a month now, so I'm ready to review it. This is a great entry level 4K TV. The picture for 4K movies and tv is pretty amazing for the price point. There is some noticeable banding, but only during solid color screens, and only if I really look for it. The black levels are great, and the color range is better than expected. Note: If you're noticing a burning plastic smell, make sure you've removed all plastic protection sheets, especially the one on the back of the set. Once I removed it the smell went away.

I must say after reading numerous reviews and researching many other TV’s I decided to purchase this one, the TCL 55R615 and what a pleasant surprise this was. This TV has great black levels, more than I expected. In both SDR and HDR modes everything looks great, and 4k content looks spectacular! For $599 this TV is an absolute steal. The only problem I have with this TV is that it doesn’t get very bright in brighter rooms but that’s ok because I have this TV in a darker room anyways. Video games play and look great in Game Mode and HDR. I own both a PS4 and Xbox One X so this TV is compatible with both systems. As for sound, it’s not bad, I thought I would have to buy a sound bar and subwoofer with this but I won’t have too. I have this TV in a very large living room and the sound is fairly decent enough for me. This is a must buy if you’re looking for a great TV on a budget!
