So far it’s still functioning well! I got this tv in 2019, fast forward to 2024 and the picture of the tv looks great! Would recommend for someone that wants a good reliable tv. Color for gaming itself is okay, it can look better in certain scenario's but it still looks awesome. If you’re using it for casual tv watching then it’ll do just right for your buck!

Hi Kpclx,
This is rather odd behavior for one of our TVs, and is not normal. Please first check that the Auto power savings mode if turned off. To do this go to Home>Setting>System>Power>Auto power savings, and make sure that none of these boxes are checked. If you are still experiencing problems we would be more than happy to look into it for you. Best TV You Can Buy in 2018 under $1000

Pros
- Decent High Peak brightness around 860 nits max, around the same ballpark of any OLED TV in the market today or the Sony x900e. Plenty bright for any dark room and decent enough for any bright room. And yes you can see those peak highlights in your HDR content.
- This TV has Wide Color Gamut/NBP Photon Technology which has around 93% of the DCI-P3 color space, which is the less fancy way of saying that this TV has color performance similar to Quantum Dots.
- Very Low Input Lag around 16ms and is perfect for gaming on the Xbox or the Playstation competitively.
- This TV has motion interpolation/Natural Motion 240 feature, so for people who love soap opera effect, you are in for a treat. If you dont like it, you can turn this feature off so either way, it's a win-win.
- The 55-inch model has 96 Local Dimming Zones which may not be as good as OLED but is very close for those deep dark blacks being produced on the screen. The local dimming of this TV's is better than the Sony x900e, and on par with most other Full Array LED TV's, that is two or three times more expensive as this TV.
- The default/out of the box color calibration that is being done on a unit by unit basis using the IPQ Engine feature is almost as good as 80-90% calibration done by experts.
- The design looks expensive and does not give a cheap feel like they did last year with the TCL P Series. The bezels are thin, and most of the body seems made of metal. Overall, it looks and feels like a premium TV.
Cons
- Coming from a Samsung 2017 TV, the IR receiver of this TV and the quality of the remote is terrible. It is a chore to sometimes use the remote as the range, and the quality of the IR receiver built inside the TV is sub-par quality. However, there is a Roku app which you can use with your phone to mitigate this issue.

I bought the TCL 6 series a couple of days ago. As many have experienced I also got a unit with some banding issues. It is certainly not as bad as some I have seen but it is there. Another problem I am experiencing with this tv is that there some color issues on the Xbox One X in the game NHL 18. In the beard graphics there is some flashing green particles. This was also an issue on my TCL 4 series but not on my Samsung. These couple of issues keep this tv from scoring a perfect 5/5. The picture is absolutely beautiful on this model.
If your budget does not allow you to go out and spend $1000+ on a better unit, I absolutely recommend this product as it gives you a ton of quality for your money. Just be prepared to not get a perfect product.

I usually do not write reviews, but after following this TV and the reviews, and then deciding to finally purchase I figured I'd write one. I was hesitant with all the reviews on the banding and DSE issues, but decided I needed to finally get something to take advantage of my Xbox one X. For the price, you won't find another TV with all of the supporting features. However, when I did run some tests, I did notice a bit of the banding issues. Is it disappointing, yes, but before I even ran those tests, the picture looked AMAZING. Again, its a budget TV that competes with TVs 3 and 4x the price. For now it's something I can live with, but if you want perfection, then you'll have to pay the price. When comparing on rtings, the gray uniformity/DSE effect has similar ratings to some high end TVs. I honestly think it's an issue with several LCD panels, regardless of the brand or price. If you want to avoid it, you'll have to throw down for an OLED. For the price I paid, it's something I can live with, and is only really noticeable to someone that is aware of it in the first place. The average person isn't going to notice.

Has held up well over the past 5 years. Did have an issue where the main board had to be replaced, but was covered under 1-year warranty. However, TCL's repair tech replaced with the incorrect main board (the 65 inch instead of the 55 inch) which has rendered the local dimming feature inoperable, since it can't detect the dark zones correctly.
Other than that issue above, it's a good budget-focused TV with plenty of features. It looks great with the slim bezels and dark metallic finish. HDR & Dolby Digital look excellent, and 4K gaming is a treat on this TV.

Did a ton of research before I took the plunge on this TV. The picture honestly is really good. Colors are bright the blacks are very black. The 4k picture is fantastic. The sound on this TV is pretty good also. Now the faults or really only fault is the minor banding issue of which is not very noticeable.Honestly you have to pick your poisen because all tvs are going to have different issues to deal with none are perfect even if you spend over a grand.

I have spent 2 months researching 55 inch Tv's. I have compared Specs on all the major brands and have checked out the TV's at various retailers. This television is all that it is cracked up to be in CNET and Ratings.com. Superb Picture,. Accurate Color and Good Upscaling. I have slight banding visable in the gray scale screen but see nothing in regular viewing. Broadcast, streaming and Blu Ray all all excellent. I can highly recommend this TV.

Beautiful picture ruined by quality control issues

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
let me start by saying that I researched this tv constantly before making my purchase. I had purchased a 55 vizio m series 2017 and was looking for an upgrade. Boy did I get it. excellent colors, superior operating system, and beautiful blacks made this decision a no brainer. the 92 local dimming zones are its biggest selling point followed by the beautiful colors. Not as bright as the new vizio p series but I never complained, until I noticed the cons.
1. horrible banding and screen uniformity issues when viewing solid colors or solid white screens. there are very noticeable linear smudges in the back. I read reviews detailing this but chalked it up to defective units. I can honestly say most if not all these units have this issue. some times you don't notice it but when you do its an eyesore. every time I launched an app I would notice it. on the youtube white background while looking for videos, I would notice it.
2. for some reason all four corners of the screen have a vignetting effect. the are darker than the rest of the screen. called tcl and they had me troubleshoot but could not fix it. they wanted me to file a warranty claim. which brings me to 3.
3. they could not match my serial number to the tv. gave them the one on the box and behind the tv. service rep was rude and kept insisting I was reading it wrong. triple checked it and it still didn't match up. ultimately I opted for returning it.
in conclusion, for the price you might be able to live with the defects. I know I tried to but ultimately am going with lg, vizio, Sony or Samsung. I'm officially off of TCL. picture is phenomenal, don't get me wrong but I feel like they are aware of the defect and are trying to unload as many of these tvs as they can, hence the price. don't take my word for it. buy it, take it home, unpackage and set it up. Then live with it for a week daily contemplating what to replace it with. lol
minus one star for the defects.
minus one star for the horrible customer service.
roku os gets one star
phenomenal black and colors gets a star.
beautiful crisp picture gets my last star.

Majestic 4K TV at a Low Price
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
To set the stage: My Sony XBR 60" 1080i TV bit the dust (same as 1080p but can't process Blu-Ray content). So, I began my researh for a 4K TV. Didn't want to pay an exorbitant price for QLED, OLED, LCD LED, etc., from the main manufacturers. After reading many professional and customer reviews about the TCL R615 from Best Buy, my mind was set. Took the plunge for TCL even though I've always had Sony TVs. I have a media room in the Room Over the Garage. The walls and ceiling are dark burgundy. An accordian blind covers the single window with burgandy drapes further covering it -- no outside light enters the room.
I also purchased a Sony 4K/Blu-Ray Player and a Sony 4K AV Receiver from Best Buy to ensure my system components "talk" to each other. They are wireless, so I performed software updates for them. The total price was much less than some of the aforementioned TVs, so more icing on the TCL cake.
The Sony XBR that the TCL replaced had a dynamic picture despite it being 14 years old, before the screen started going bad. How does the TCL R615 compare? Overall, going from 1080i to 4K processing with all of TCL's bells and whistles, I envisioned a huge improvement. Guess what? I got it! I'm amazed at the quality of my new TCL. Everything looks fantastic with the TCL upscaling doing its magic.
A note on audio: I have a Sony 7.1 speaker system. Once I told the Receiver that I have 7.1,, I performed an Easy Setup Speaker Calibration using the supplied microphone. I'm here to tell you that the TCL HDMI ACR has a room-shaking presence when you crank up the volume (about 45 for me). Wow, I was blown away, since I've read some terrible things about ARC (don't believe the negativity).
So now you want to know what the picture quality is from different sources, right? Hold on, I'm getting there. But first a word about Screen Settings. Most all the settings rock right out of the box, but I love to tinker.
Here's what I used for testing DVD and non-4K Netflix shows:
The DVDs I tested were The Fellowship of the Ring and Jurassic Park (the original). Fellowship of the Ring because it has so many gradations of whites, grays, and blacks, all rendered flawlessly with every little detail showing. Jurassic Park because of its rich colors and lots of movement. Of course, the sound from both titles is stupendous.
TV Brightness: Dark
Picture Mode: Movie
Picture Size: Auto
"Advanced Settings"
Local Contrast : High
Backlight: 30
Brightness: 55
Contrast: 100
Sharpness: 20
Color: 45
Color Temp: Warm
DVD & Netflix verdict? Remarkable with Blu-Ray quality. Even some of the much older B&W shows aren't as grainy as I'd expect.
Blu-Ray testing with Wonder Woman.
The only change I made to the settings was to lower Sharpness to 0 (zero).
Blu-Ray verdict? Phenominal as I had hoped.
My TCL doesn't have any of the problems some other customers have complained about.
I'm deeply impressed with the TCL R615. It's more of a pleasure than ever before for watching my favorite movies and TV shows.
On a further note: Due to she sloping wall behind the TV, I don't have it wall mounted. However, it's mounted on a separate swivel stand on top of the TV stand.
I'm lovin' the new experience! Couldn't be happier!
Are you on the fence about which new 4K TV to buy? Land on the TCL side. It's well worth the fall.

First off, for the price the picture was fantastic. The brightness was more than enough and the colors were so rich and vibrant, especially in HDR. I upgraded from a 55 inch TCL S405 and the quality difference was immediately apparent. However, after about an hour I noticed heavy banding on the right side of the screen which was noticeable during panning shots and against solid colors. I returned the TV and ended up with the same issue two units later. I just couldn't tolerate the DSE in combination with the vertical banding. I ended up just buying a Samsung. For those who want to purchase this unit, it is worth the money if you can tolerate some dirty screen effect. The banding may have just been bad luck on my part. Long story short, If you're on a budget it's worth at least a shot. If you don't like the panel you got, exchange it. Once the DSE and banding catches your eye and bothers you, it will always bother you.

I decided on this unit because I have a TCL 40" 1080 Roku TV in the bedroom and the PQ is better on that than any other TV I've ever owned. DISH satellite and OTA channels are just what you should expect from a typical HD TV; crisp, clear, well-balanced colors and contrast. On this UHD TV though, not so much. It's understandable that the larger the screen and resolution, the worse lower resolution content will look, but for some reason this TV just does not handle broadcast signals well at all. I've spent hours working with the settings trying to get the best picture I can with the satellite signal, and the absolute best I could come up with is mediocre. Same went with OTA Signals. The blacks are TOO black and grainy, while whites are TOO white and washed out. Finding a decent middle ground is next to impossible. The Vizio 55" UHD TV this unit is replacing did a much better job with these signals, but it couldn't hold a candle to everything else this TCL can do. So if you primarily only watch satellite/cable/OTA television, I would not suggest this TV at all, as it simply isn't made for that type of highly compressed content, unless you STREAM live TV (Sling, Hulu, PS Vue, etc. These will give you a MUCH better PQ than broadcast). Its shining point is streaming content and physical media (Blu-ray, UHD Blu-ray).
After the initial disappointment with the satellite picture, I delved into a couple UHD HDR and Dolby Vision movies on Vudu and everything changed. While I've seen UHD content on my old Vizio, seeing it on this TCL unit was like going from a Mercedes to a Bugatti! The picture was overwhelmingly stunning and accurate. Colors are extremely vivid but in no way over-saturated. Screen is unbelievably bright without clipping and blacks are as dark as can be without any crushing. When I fist saw UHD content on my old Vizio, I wasn't much impressed as I didn't see any dramatic improvement over standard 1080. With the amazing brightness of this unit along with HDR or Dolby Vision, it's like the transition from SD to HD all over again, it's a whole new ball game!
And as if that weren't enough to impress me, I then discovered the 4k and 8k 60FPS content on YouTube. Jaw-dropping! The clarity, smoothness and detail is unimaginable, and that was even after discovering that it was only streaming at 1080! I don't have the fastest DSL connection so it hiccups on the 4k stream and defaults to 1080. I can switch to 1440 and still get a smooth stream, and while there is a slightly noticeable difference even with that, the fact that the 1080 stream is absolutely overwhelming has sold me on this TV for good!
As for the actual build of the unit, I was impressed with the solid feel and eye-pleasing brushed metal bezel and partial back of it, but couldn't understand why they would make the back of a TV look so beautiful also, since most people either wall mount or have their TV up against a wall where the back is never seen. At least it gives it a more solid feel when installing (I've wall mounted it) than an all plastic body like my Vizio, which felt like it could be easily twisted and damaged. Also, because the upper half of the back of the unit is just basically screen and the bottom half is the components and much thicker than the top half, the mounting holes are towards the bottom of the unit, much lower than on most other units. So depending on how flexible your wall mount is, this unit may sit much higher than most, which is something that one should be aware of when considering this unit as a wall mounted replacement.
Overall, I really can't say enough good things about this TV, except for its inability to handle broadcast signals well. I couldn't give a 5-star rating because of this, but would have given 4.75 if possible, as it certainly isn't a deal breaker. Where it doesn't shine there it more than exceeds any expectations in every other aspect. And for the price it has to be hands down the absolute best TV in its class, probably even in much higher classes as well!

Excellent Living Room TV

After extensive research, I narrowed my choices down to between the TCL 6 series and the Vizio P series. I decided on the TCL 6 series and am glad I did. Out of the box the picture was excellent with no need for any sort of calibration. The Roku interface is seamless and has great usability for any user. The remote and remote app on the phone are both basic and family friendly.
The only disadvantage this TV has compared to the Vizio P series is the native refresh rate of 60hz compared to Vizio's 120 hz. As an OCD numbers person myself I wanted to make sure I had the best quality TV for watching sports and playing games. Though TCL may only have 60hz, the upscaling built into the TV makes sports and gaming both run flawlessly.
There are many reviews online that mention the "panel lottery" with this specific model of TV. I believe that this was an issue when the TV was first launched but no recent reviews mention it, and I can vouch that my panel was excellent that left very little DSE (Dirty Screen Effect).
If you are like how I was, researching and debating multiple TVs in this price range, go with the TCL 6 series. It is by far the best bang for you buck and I can assure you that you will not be disappointed!

Vertical Banding Ruins An Otherwise Quality TV
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Before I had bought my 6 Series, I had the 49" S405. Since the 6 Series was a step up from that, particularly with the inclusion of full-array local dimming & Dolby Vision HDR, I thought this was an upgrade worth making. Sadly, I think I'll be returning this TV. Why?
For the cost, this TV is undoubtedly impressive. Picture quality & colors are exceptional. HDR, while still not on par with higher priced sets, is an upgrade from the S405 model. But none of this matters when I'm constantly seeing vertical banding on the TV. It has the appearance of burn in & it's very noticeable. While my S405 had some issues when it came to screen uniformity, it wasn't nearly as bad as this.
Without the vertical banding, I could easily recommend this TV. As is, though, I can't. And regardless of what TCL says, this is normal with this TV. Whether you see it or not is down to the viewer. Sure, some of these TV's might not have it, but most do. This is a huge oversight by TCL QC.
Hopefully they can improve the next batch since TCL shows great promise, but it can't keep making these mistakes.
