Believe the Hype!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love my TCL P-605 TV. Here are some pros and cons (and for the cons I'm nitpicking): Pros: • The image quality across everything I have tried is jaw-dropping. 4k gaming via XBox One X, HDR and Dolby Vision content via Netflix (you have to try Altered Carbon on this screen!), even just HD programming on Sling TV, everything looks stellar! The FALD "local dimming" feature works really well, although I'd recommend turning it off for peak brightness when GAMING only. • The Gaming Mode's low input lag makes gaming feel super responsive • The Roku interface is so intuitive and fast. I love the ability to search across all streaming options right on the home page. • Ditto the remote - super easy to use. Although my wife asked "If the screen is so big, why is the remote so tiny?!" • Above all, SUCH an amazing bargain for a 55" 4K HDR TV with FALD, provided it keeps working properly! Cons: • Sound is thin and brittle. Do as others suggest and use the built in ARC HDMI out or optical out to transfer the sound to a better system • I DO SEE SOME CLOUDING. Say you're viewing the Sling TV and Amazon Prime Video browser's medium gray background, on my screen I do see that the bottom edges and corners look a little inconsistent in the coloration. But I don't see it when actually viewing video content, and I'd say I'm technically-minded/anally-retentive enough where if it was a genuine problem I'd be bothered by it. (Not talking about a deliberate color gradient a la Hulu, btw) Believe the hype about this TV. Wait, there isn't any is there? Well, then pat yourself on the back for being a discerning consumer who is thorough enough to come across the TCL P series. Then buy one.

Great Value
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. No tv comes close to this price point with HDR10, Dolby Vision and Local Dimming. I bought it for my Xbox One X and I am very pleased with it.

Gotta love it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't think I've researched anything as much as I researched this TV before buying it. I gotta warn about the hype really taking away from the payoff here, though. I was expecting to be blown away by this TV, but it's just good enough. I honestly don't notice the input lag difference (fired up my favorite shooter and it was just about the same as the last time I played it on my tv with 4x the IL). I had to exchange the first one due to backlight bleed in all four corners. When I got the new one, I noticed immediately how much improved it was without any bleed. All the colors were rich and no longer washed out like with the defective unit. Though, I have to say, unless I'm watching something that is specifically designed to show off HDR, I don't really see the difference with my old 1080 tv. Maybe I just don't have an eye for this stuff. Roku has taken some getting used. I am actually surprised at how lacking it is in navigation, but I love the amount of apps you can access. I do miss my Kodi on my FireTV, but there's no reason I can't plug this in here. The thing is, now I want to watch nothing but 4K videos...but there's not many out there. Unless you love Netflix/Amazon exclusive content (some I do, so not a loss). This tv definitely does a great job upscaling 1080, though. I look for flaws when watching lower resolution stuff but only really see it when watching live (720p) tv...which is understandable. I realize I mostly whined here, so why even give it 4 stars? Cuz I needed a new TV and this was a great value 4K TV that's decently future-proofed. And it works well even if I can't appreciate the resolution and HDR that much. I'm all set for a couple years. I also feel that most anyone else will appreciate the heck out of it for all the reasons I was enticed to buy it. Darn thing won't go on sale below $600 though.

Great Deal

Incredible tv for the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You are not going to find a better 4k hdr tv for this price. This tv features both hdr 10 as well as dolby vision hdr so it's comparable with all current hdr platforms. The picture is very bright and crisp but the screen can suffer from dark streaks. The built in speakers are not great either. However, looking past those two potential issues all your left with is a fantastic tv. The built in roku makes navigating menus as user friendly as possible and ensures that you have access to 4k hdr content via the built in apps like Netflix or hulu. All three of the hdmi ports support hdr which is nice since a lot of tv's in this price range only offer one hdmi port with hdr supHulu. I really can't say enough good things about this tv. I use it for many hours a day whether it's watching videos via the YouTube app or playing the latest games in beautiful 4k hdr on my ps4 pro I seriously can't ramones this tv enough. Buy it!!!

Very good but returned
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We purchased this TCL TV, kept it a couple of weeks, but ultimately returned it. Why return it? I discovered the 2018 TCL TVs were coming out soon, likely had upgrades, and would cost no more than the 2017 models. Additionally, I would expect Best Buy to offer a discount on the 2017 models very soon. Also, I felt the motion as seen in some movies and most sporting events was not as smooth as I would hope for. Also, the picture in HDR mode, or Dolby Vision, was a bit on the dim side. And the 2018 models have been reported to be brighter. That said, I still think this model is a good value for the picture it delivers but perhaps not for those who watch a lot of sports. Note: the Roku operating system seems to be by FAR the best system in “smart“ TVs. It was just very elegant and seamless. In fact you can search for content in the main search screen and it finds that movie or TV show across ALL of the streaming channels and even our cable provider! Absolutely fantastic. I have experience both with the recent LG operating system and the Vizio system software and the TCL/Roku system is MILES ahead of them. It is not even close. Also, the Roku system doesn’t require you to go on to a device such as a tablet, open up whatever streaming channel’s content, and then TRY to cast it to the television. The built-in Roku system simply has all of those channels built-in and/or downloadable. In general though, my impression was that the picture was very good. However, it lacks any motion interpolation features or adjustment and that was a big negative for me. Ultimately, we ended up getting a good deal on a Vizio P 65 at Costco (but still for $300 more) and are happy with it. A lot of it comes down to how much you’re willing to spend and what you get for the money.

Absolutely fantastic picture and sound
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has got to be one of the best TV's I have ever owned I was not sure about the TCL brand however I read tons and I mean tons of awesome reviews on this TV so I knew that I had to buy it I just wish it came in a bigger size than 55 however I bought the TV I brought it home and it is absolutely fantastic there is absolutely nothing I would change about this tv this tv absolutely will rival TV's that cost twice as much maybe even 3 times as much it is an absolute diamond in the rough if you have the opportunity and they have it on display see it for yourself you will be dumbfounded that this TV only costs $650 it is absolutely the best deal in tvs today. One word of warning make sure you purchase the P version of this TV there are other versions of this TV that have different letter codes and they are not the same

Great 4K TV
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There is a reason that this TV never goes on sale; it’s one of the best 4K TVs under $1000. This TV really excels when placed in a dark room, as light really causes the picture quality to degrade.

Very nice budget 4K / HDR TV
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've only had the TV for a couple days now, but I really am liking what I see so far. The first one I received had a problem with the panel (weird wavy lines in the bottom, left) but BB exchanged it quickly. The picture looks great - once you find some (sort-of hidden) settings. For instance, for me this TV defaulted to a 2.2 gamma and seemed too dark . Via Youtube I found that you can adjust the Gamma but only via their mobile app. Weird that you have to use that to access. Also, the HDMI inputs default to "Auto" (with 1.4 and 2.0 being other options). I found, for my Xbox to function correctly, that I had to over-ride the "Auto" and set it to 2.0. At that point, Forza 3 now triggers the "HDR" logo letting you know the TV has entered that mode. Also, one MAJOR gripe with the physical remote; at least for the way I hold it, I'm hitting the audio mute all the time. It's not that big of a deal since I have the volume on zero anyway and use a sound-bar. But if you are using the TV's audio, this would be a major PITA. Overall though - really nice TV for the money.
