    Good picture. Close captioning doesn't work on streaming channels. Sound out doesn't work even with special TCL connecter. Can't figure out how to check for 4k programming. Would not buy again.

    Terrible Television

    We purchased this television as an attempted replacement for a Hisense Roku TV with a burned out backlight. We promptly returned it because it's a terrible television with a horrible interface and OS, poor picture quality, and too many smart/auto adjustments. Do not buy. We ended up purchasing a Roku Plus TV instead. Here is my review of the TCL Q7 4K 55" television: Overly lengthy setup process filled with user agreements, legalese and contractual promises that your privacy will be invaded at every opportunity.
 Poor picture quality out of the box. The complicated picture adjustment interface required making adjustments for each input utilized, and in some cases for each type of content we watch (ie. Roku interface, YouTube, Blu-ray, streaming channels, etc.). Even after all of these adjustments, the picture quality on this TV is still poor in comparison to our experience with other televisions.
 The overexposed whites remove too much detail from white parts of the footage viewed.
 Blacks are underexposed, causing all black areas of the content to lose detail and become indistinct silhouettes.
 The picture on this TV defaults to being over sharpened. We discovered that this is partially due to the numerous “automatic” and “intelligent” picture enhancement settings that are available in the Google TV interface, which we eventually disabled. However, even with these settings turned off, the picture is often overly “crunchy” with too much contrast. And depending on what you’re watching, it can really make for a poor viewing experience.
 The entire experience with this TCL television led us to better understand how the QLED, OLED, HDR and “intelligent” direction being pursued by many modern televisions can be taken too far, in effect actually lowering the quality and original intention of some content. We understood when going with this Google TV that we would have to attach a Roku stick if we wanted to maintain the simple and easy-to-use interface. The Roku part of the experience worked well. However, when this is coupled with this TCL’s antiquated looking Google TV interface and TCL’s poor picture execution, it just made us want another TV with an actual Roku interface already built in. And that is exactly what we ended up going with -- the Roku Plus series. I have also researched the new Roku Pro series as well, and those look promising as well.

    Still slightly warm colors even after calibration. Some issues with inverse ghosting and backlight flicker when using VRR. Doesn't use mini LED. Only uses ATSC 1.0 instead of newer 3.0. Speakers aren't horrible, they could be better though. Build quality could be slightly better too. Can't disable Dolby vision. Lastly the motion processing could be better as well.

    Purchased to TV a few days ago after my previous TCL series 6 qled went out . Out of the box immediately I was disappointed with the lack of crisp bright picture. this new TCL model and I’m pretty picky about my TV , under performed compared to my series 6. After this weekend , I decided it’s going back .

    TV broke down after a month of use. Customer service is horrible, I have provided all of the information requested and they are refusing to dispatch repair or send a replacement. It's been a nightmare. Stay away from this manufacturer. They might be cheap, and you are getting what you pay for.

    Would except something similar

    Everything works as of yet, but had to take this same back to the store, but as the one I took back and the replacement unit you cannot get the settings to work, it comes up as not connected to the internet, obviously it is connected to the internet. Then as I was hoping to get service, they said they were going to get back to me. I do not want the same SKU, 2 units not working correctly, that’s enough. As of today no one has gotten back to me. One of the reasons I bought a TCL is because it has legs that fits on my semi antique oak tv cart.

    Didn't have a power cord

    Bought this as an "open box" in "excellent" condition. No instruction manual and worse yet... Did not include a power cord. Live out of town and by the time I got home it was too late to go back. Had to order one online and wait several days to hook my tv up. Will never buy Best Buy open box again. Somebody should ha e checked this first and clearly they didnt.

    Broke after 8 days…

    Owned the TV for 8 days and it already broke. TV screen went black and it won’t turn on. Luckily it was within the two week window. Buyer beware.

    Started HAvoong Problems After Warranty Period

    Purchase the TCL 55R635 in March 2020. TV had issues with freezing and rebooting on it's own. After 3 years of playing with rests/factory resets/power on resets, the TV is now a brick. Unless you get a 5 year warranty for this TV, stay away!
