Screen Died After 3.5 Years

Sound plays but no picture comes on. I called support and they basically told me to get a new tv. This tv has caused us problems for three years. It will freeze and become unresponsive, shut off unexpectantly, and disconnect our soundbar from time to time. Won’t be buying another TCL.

GOOGLE "TCL black screen problem" !!!!!!

UNFORTUNATELY, THEY ARE FAILING LIKE CRAZY. TCL BECAME POPULAR IN WINTER/SPRING 2017. IF YOU SIMPLY GOOGLE THE BLACK SCREEN ISSUE ,YOU WILL SEE AN UNGODLY NUMBER OF REPORTS OF FAILURES BETWEEN YEAR 1 (END OF WARRANTY) AND YEAR 2. It starts like this: intermittent black screen with audio that seems to fix itself. ***Countdown to worsening intermittent failure has begun. It will progress to a point that you need to unplug or factory reset it to bring it back. ***Countdown to imminent complete failure has begun. COMPLETE FAILURE: WILL REQUIRE T-CON BOARD AND/OR POWER BOARD REPLACEMENT AND/OR POSSIBLE LED STRIPS. IF YOU ELECT TO REPAIR, IT IS AT YOUR OWN RISK OF IT SIMPLY HAPPENING AGAIN AS THE PARTS ARE NOT UPDATED TO STOP THE ISSUE (TCL doesn't even acknowledge the failures are happening). Keep in mind the pricing for TCL has dropped 1/3 -1/2 of what they were just 2 years ago. So odds are, unless you are willing and able to repair it yourself, you will wind up simply replacing the TCL tv (but hopefully not with the same brand. At least until they learn to take care of the buyers that gave them a chance and got burned 13-24 months after purchase). In my case, 65s405 / 23 months / $900 WASTED. JUST GOOGLE IT. They were too new for the problem to show itself back then. THE INFO IS AVAILABLE NOW.

TCL won’t last the test of time!

I have a 42” in my bedroom, two 32” in my kids rooms, a 65” in my Living room and a 55” in my den and office. Last year, after just over 3 years, I had to replace my 55” cause the screen went. I replaced it with another TCL. Now, after just over 3 years, the 65” went as well. TCL TVs will not last. Although I have recommended TCL TVs for years to friends and family, that ends today. Their TVs will only last just over 3 years. Spend the money on a more expensive brand that will hopefully last longer.

Its ok, but need improvement

After 4 or 5 months start having issues using the apps. There a delay when you press the bottoms. You press it a up or down arrow bottom, and it does move - after a few seconds it moves and free the tv. You get kicked out of the apps and you need to turn off the tv to get it back to work. Its not one one app. All apps (netflix, youtube, roku, hulu...) have the same issue. I usually have to factory reset every month to have it working ok. The tv is good, but I ended up buying a roku machine separated from the tv to have it working normal. I know its not the internet in my house because I have other tvs that works just fine on the wifi.

Not Worth The Money

I have had it for less than a year and have to keep resetting it because the channels don't match the guide. I click the Netflix button and Netflix appears on the screen for less then 15 seconds and the tv goes to the homepage and I have to do it all over again so I have to go to settings and reset it so I can watch Netflix. It does it with other apps too. I gave it to stars because the picture is beautiful and I like that I can pause the tv for 90 minutes but it is not worth the money I paid.

Great TV for 10 days

Very easy to navigate. Fast response time. 3 hdmi ports. 4k xbox ran smooth as well. I had no complaints . 10 days into usage however the screen went completely black. I returned it and exchanged it for a Samsung. Not as happy with samsung but afraid of risking dead screen again . Samsung is clunky to navigate around menu screen . Doesnt have a power button on tv except on the remote . And only has 2 hdmi ports. I wish this TCL would've lasted longer

Did research and the tcl tv lasts 1 year to 2 years. Lot of people are having same trouble. Never again will i pay $1000 for a tv from this company.

Backlight went out after 2 years

I called TCL and they said it’s probably the backlight and it would need to be replaced. I thought it was a good tv up till this point, but if a tv only lasts 2 years something is wrong.

Software updates will brick your TV in 3 years

Now, my internet connection flickers out every minute. I tried everything to fix my internet before realizing that it is in fact a software issue with the TV. Be aware that Insignia (Best Buy) does not provide software support. I talked to support for a while and got no "support." Basically, they said, "Oh? That sucks. Deal with it." So enjoy your TV for a few years. That is all you'll get.

Just over 2 years old and it put itself into recovery mode and wont come out! Nothing will work. I contacted best buy but they said they cant really do anything because its out of warranty. I contacted TCL and they just gave me steps to reset and because ive done them all, there is nothing for them to do. I have to reach out to tv repair person and hope its not more than what i paid for the tv... would never buy a tcl after this!

Avoid TCL TV's

I bought two of these TV's two years ago, and the backlight just went out with one of them. Apparently this is a huge issue with TCL, just Google "Roku TCL" and the first thing that pops up is "screen is black." TCL customer service offers zero support if you didn't buy an extended warranty. This is unheard of for a 2-yr old TV. Spend some extra money and buy a better television.

Ok buy for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the TV and I was very Happy, until I noticed it doesn't process deep black colors good, that color is distorted and with a purple tint.. Called TCL and they send me a new TV. It does the same thing. I compared it to the TV a friend has and my friends does the same thing. Other than the deep blacks being distracted this is a good buy for the money, but don't expect perfection here.

You can access the Options menu on the TV by pressing the asterisk (*) button on your remote while watching content. Additionally, you can access expert picture settings by downloading the free Roku mobile app on a smartphone or tablet. The Roku mobile app works as a remote and allows you to access additional features like voice search, private listening, advanced picture settings, and more. Hope this helps & happy viewing!
