    So much potential but so little QC

    I really wanted to like this TV. It had a lot of features for the price. 144hz, VRR, low latency, all the HDR modes, bright and vibrant display. But unfortunately, the set I received was plagued with a flashing vertical black bar near the left side of the display. This was happening even during setup. I tried everything in the book to try and fix this but ultimately ended up returning the TV for something else. This TV has so much potential but I wish TCL TVs were more consistent with their quality control as this is the second TCL I have tried over the years and ended up returning due to a defect.

    Picture was very good but not great, however the issue we had was that the sound would make this horrible static blast sound no matter what we were watching. It happened whether it was an app (using the built in roku), cable, appletv, and the built in speakers or the eArc. Incredibly frustrating. We swapped out for the Hisense U8H and havent had any issues with that model yet, plus it’s brighter. Off angle viewing is not great with either model. YMMV.

    Dolby Atmos issue with TCL Alto 8+ Soundbar

    The picture on this TV is definitely an upgrade from my 6-Series r613 from 2018. However, after spending multiple hours attempting to get it to work over ARC with the TCL Alto 8+ soundbar (changing cables/settings/etc.), I ended up having to return it. TV was updated to latest firmware (4317) at the time of this posting. Soundbar was also running the latest firmware (NA114). It did work with an older non-Atmos-capable Samsung soundbar when stereo mode was detected as available. However, it seems like that because Atmos mode was available on the Alto 8+, audio would be transmitted in Atmos mode regardless of what the digital output setting on the TV was set to, resulting in no sound at all and no way to get it to work. Even passthrough would not work. Your mileage may vary when using this TV with an Atmos-capable sound system. For me, this TV not working with my TCL Alto 8+ over ARC was a deal breaker. Hopefully, TCL can get this resolved.

    Not great if you have the Panasonic UB820

    This TV should pretty great for the vast majority of people. The built in Roku OS is pretty solid. The TV tops out at 1500 Nits so it is brighter than most sets which will make all 4 forms of HDR work. I liked it a lot but there was an issue I couldn't get past. I have a Panasonic UB820 4K Blu-ray player. It's the best player out there and the one I would recommend to everyone. This TV flat out doesn't like it. The first thing I noticed was that in Dolby Vision the menus were blacked out. As in a black bar over them. Then I would get the screen randomly blacking out for a couple seconds several times per movie and multiple audio drops out along all 4K discs. I tried new Cables, I exchanged the TV for the same model, it also had the problem and finally I bought the same player over again just to make sure it wasn't my player....the problems still persisted. So if you only stream, or you have a different model 4K player or if you want to game at 120HZ this should work great for you just avoid if you want to use your Panasonic player. TCL customer service is garbage.

    Tv has a decent pucture but very slow to respond to power on and off button. It also does connect to any Xfinity/Comcast remote. I have talked to Comcast and Tcl without any resolve. I have never bought such an expensive tv before and for 1k, I would expect to atleast to be able to operate with my tv remote.

    TV is fine but was disappointed TV did not have original remote with Voice control or a stand. Had to hang TV on wall. Discount basically covers cost of stand and proper remote. Not such a great deal buying pre owned TV

    Great then bad

    Was happy with my purchase for a handful of months but the picture started freezing on me and a screeching sound would come out of the speakers. Geek squad replaced main board and screen went bad after that. Had to set up a return

    The roku streaming is practically unuasable.

    I have the roku version and the streaming service is constantly unwatchable, the picture turns into a pixelated mess and i have to go into the menu and reset the tv 2 to 10 times to get the streaming service to work right again, doesnt matter what app, netflix, hulu, disney, it unbelievably sucks and is extremely frustrating. its been like this since the first week i had it. Ive factory reset it, reset the network, reset the t.v. over and over again. The picture quality is amazing but the roku streaming part absolutely sucks. I even upgraded to the fastest 500mb internet service they have and i bought a new $300 router, wired, wireless, it still does it, all other devices in my house work flawless. I get 530mb download speeds on my xbox, Im extremely dissapointed in the smart tv portion of the set. It looks great off the xbox x but the tv's onboard streaming looks better if it would only work consistantly, if you plan on benging tons of streaming television shows you may want to pass on this set.

    Always better in the store.

    As seems to always be the case, tv picture on demo mode in store is always better than once at home. I mean this tv is ok, just ok. Sometimes I feel ripped off over this , I mean there is a significant difference in picture quality.

You can access the Options menu on the TV by pressing the asterisk (*) button on your remote while watching content. Additionally, you can access expert picture settings by downloading the free Roku mobile app on a smartphone or tablet.
