I bought this TV for mY game room and let’s just say it didn’t disappoint. Easy to use Ruko interface with many great apps. Picture quality on my PS5 was good for the price I paid. I would recommend this TCL if you want a nice bright picture for gaming and watching 4K content.

The picture quality and the sound from the speakers are great. Off the bat the remote was operating intermittently and killing batteries. Via email TCL sent me through standard troubleshooting and since the remote wasn't operating properly the "hidden" menu could not be accessed. They sent a new remote problem solved. I even bought the in-laws for their room another smaller TCL since I liked the features so much. Now my TV 22 days after first setup while watching this evening heard a loud pop and the TV went blank and that was all she wrote. Definitely off to a bad start. The Roku features and the remote app are cool, but are of no use without a TV. For the price point definitely not what I expected. Now to see how long Geek Squad needs to come out and repair. Glad I opted for the plan as it looks like I will use it often within the next five years if this is the quality I am to expect from TCL.

    Overall Very Good

Very good tv with Roku built in already. Picture is bright. However it is not as bright as Hisense h9g or u8g. However plenty bright enough. One thing I do love about this tv is aspect ratio. You can stretch or zoom any source you want without having black bars on the sides or the top and bottom. I believe Sony, LG and possibly Samsung has this feature that TCL has also. I think all brands should have it. Hisense tvs do not have this feature unless you are watching OTA broadcasts. For this reason I would pass on Hisense tvs unless you don't care if the whole screen is covered with the picture. This tv has good picture and sound is not too bad either. It has the mini LEDs which light the screen pretty evenly.

Excellent Dolby Vision and Dolby Sound when I was watching Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Enjoyed playing COD in its Game Mode on my Xbox One S but this TV would really shine on Xbox Series X that I am still unable to preorder...TCL please place a preorder for me ;). The only downside is that it does not have an HDMI 2.1 but then you will have to pay almost double the price of this TV that will not add that much value for the overwhelming majority of people. TCL...I took the time to write an honest review so please take the time to help me place a preorder for Xbox Series X.

I had a 2009 54 inch Vizio for years but wanted to upgrade to a bigger screen. So after looking at numerous TVs oh, I found this one to be one of the best for clarity. I've had it for about 3 weeks now and couldn't be happier. I actually went back to Best Buy and upgraded my surround sound speakers as well. Definitely have to give a thumbs up to the two gentlemen that help me with these two purchases. Very intelligent and helpful with my needs. Hats off guys!

Bought 2 years ago and died - a bit early for a $1000 TV. In between it was serviceable. One thing it didn’t do well was dark colors gradients, where you could see clear lines as the color changed. Won’t buy again.

TV not for Dark scene movies or anything in Night

So everyone ratings this TV as beautifully well I will say if your watching daytime content like movies and cable this TV pops with color and looks very very good. The down fall of this mini LED tech is very very poor it can't handle dark scenes at all it makes all the dark area just black watch any movie like Dark Night you lose so much detail in the picture because it makes area that are dark just black. Trust me watch any movie of your choice with dark scenes and you will be very disappointed. I know its not an OLED but my 15 yrs Samsung TV had a better dark scene picture than this 2020 TCL TV. Maybe a firmware update might fix this but I rather not wait to find out.

After countless hours of research this is the best TV i've ever owned. The interface is one of my favorite features. It is groundbreaking how you can search for "gunsmoke" and it will search EVERY app in the know universe for where you can watch it, that ALONE is amazing. Now add in the premium look and 4k capabilities an it is amazing. I am moving to this tv from a 65" Sony Bravia QLED and this is a BETTER TV.

    Great TV but...

Great TV for streaming, sports and 4k content but in my opinion not for blu ray's which I have a ton of. Went through the web looking for best setting but still saw a soft picture in some scenes and grain in others. Not sure if its the 65" size or the overall brightness. Newer blu rays look better. Had to adjust a lip sync issue within my blu ray player and also for the HDMI settings choose auto which allows the tv to switch between 1.4 and 2.00. When I choose 2.0 the sound was unstable. Kept turning off intermittently.

I purchased the earlier version of this TV (65R625) in November 2019. Started out great, but... about 14 months after I got it (2 months out of warranty of course), it developed a large dark 'smudge' in the top half center of the screen. It has continued to grow and darken, and now goes almost all the way from top to bottom. Makes everyone in this section of the screen look like they have jaundice. Contact support. Tried all the various resets, setting adjustments, etc. to no avail. It also resets itself somewhat frequently in the middle of viewing, and seems to have trouble with Hulu. Not sure if that's the TV or internet service. Doesn't seem to happen with other services. Based on my experience, although the TV was nice while it worked, I just don't think TCL quality is up to snuff. I will avoid this brand in the future. If you want one, I'd advise an extended warranty.

    Good quality, horrendous local dimming

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

My 4-year old 55R617 has better local dimming than this TV. With the R646, the increased amount of zones seems to actually be a detriment. Zones will visibly turn off and on around the screen, sometimes even when the scene is static. Panning the camera in a dark scene in games results in a grid of flickering, blobby lights around the screen - nothing is smoothly blended together. Also present in movies with very dark scenes (watching in a dark room). The only real option seems to be turning local dimming on low, but that results in substantially worse black levels. And why should that be necessary, when it isn't on a nearly 4 year old model? I also saw a few posts about this issue for the R635, so if TCL hasn't fixed anything since then, it's unlikely they're going to fix the R646 through updates. Just absolutely ridiculous that TCL is going backwards in terms of local dimming, and if I want to upgrade to one of their newer TVs, I have to tolerate blobs flickering around the screen. Seriously considering returning this, because it is very distracting when it happens.

Don’t let anyone at the store tell you “you are better off with song, Lg , Samsung , this tv is perfect. The song 950 is better(barely). It is also 400 dollars more , this tv is amazing. I will say SPORTS ON THIS TV IS THE BEST BY FAR. TCL is incredible , don’t let the price change your decision , it’s cheap because they are trying to break into an American market.

Simply put this tv is wonderful while it works. Great picture, interface, etc. That being said, I expect a tv that I bought for $1000 to last me longer than 2 years before it craps out. You can have the best performance on the market, but it doesn't mean anything if it stops working prematurely and is not repairable. TCL customer service gave me some DIY repairs to try but the problem was the panel. They refused to do anything for me as I was outside the 1 year warranty. Never buying another TCL product again.

    DO NOT BUY; Defective Screen

I have been a loyal Vizio customer for over a decade. My 55 inch (7 year old) Vizio started to go out. Since Vizio was sold off, I chose to venture away from the brand. I have been researching TVs for about a month. I read numerous reviews not this TV which was supposedly the "best budget QLED" on the market. I purchased this TV and within 30 seconds of loading the set up menu, the screen went out. Over the next hour, the screen came in and out intermittently and eventually stopped turning back on. The sound and functionality of the remote were working fine, but the backlight of the screen was clearly defective. I quickly returned this TV and exchanged it for the Samsung Q70T.

Researched quite a bit before buying and got great reviews from a performance standpoint. Picture looked good and had great 4k images. After 1.5 years, it unfortunately dumped out on me and was told by Geek Squad it was unrepairable due to the way TCL makes there TVs. There were some other small issues that were an annoyance but beyond the most frustrating thing was the longevity of the brand. I gave TCL a try but will not buy another due to that.
