Amazing TVC for an Amazing Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently remodeled my basement and decided to include a mini theater setup as part of the project. That meant time for a new TV. So I spent considerable time researching big screen TVs and came across one recurring theme with the published reviews of various brands; that the TCL 6 series 55" and 65" sets were perhaps the best under $1000 sets on the market. I finally jumped on the TCL bandwagon a few weeks ago when Best Buy put the 65" version on sale for $799, almost $200 off the retail price. I guess I somewhat took a leap of faith based on the reviews because I wasn't actually able to personally audition the set in person due to the fact I was travelling at the time and decided I had better order online so as not to lose out on the sale price. The reviews weren't wrong. This TCL set is the best value dollar electronics purchase I have ever made. So what's to love about this set? Pretty much everything. The visual quality is simply stunning. I see no evidence of banding, no DSE (Dirty Screen Effect), and no perceptible vignetting in the corners. Out of the box calibration was very accurate, though I did make a few advanced adjustments based on published suggestions from other sources. Stylistically I find the design of the set quite attractive, with the display panel being framed by a very thin, unobtrusive, aluminum bezel. I don't utilize the on board speakers as I have a Onkyo NR676 surround receiver hooked up to blast out the sound; but, I would say based on my brief use of the on board speakers before hooking up my Onkyo that they sound better than other TV speakers that I have experience with. What is also nice about this set is that in incorporates all the cutting edge technology and standards that sets that one would want to have to future proof their new TV purchase at this time, including: Dolby Vision and HDR10, Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Atmos, along with HDMI 2.0 w/HDCP 2.2 and ARC. The inclusion of built in Roku OS is quite nice too and is a very good value add. The Android Roku application seems to control the TV fine as well, although I’m not a big fan of using my smart phone to run the TV. Is there anything I don’t like about the set? Not much. Certainly nothing that would advise against giving 5 stars. I have the unit connected to the internet wirelessly and find that it is a bit slow (compared to my other internet wireless devices) making a connection each time it is turned on. Not a critical issue though, it’s just minor blip. I think a more in-depth user manual would be welcome. The documentation is pretty skimpy on setup; a neophyte might find it a bit daunting to configure settings for things like ARC. Also, I would prefer not having to use the online Roku application to access the advanced settings. Some reviewers have complained about the Roku remote not being wireless and not having voice control; the non-Best Buy specific model has both, but at a higher retail price. This remote control gripe I think is inconsequential. One can buy an enhanced wireless Roku remote with voice recognition, if those features are deemed critical, for under $40 and pair it with the set to get the same functionality. Supposedly the set can be controlled via Google Voice, but I have not fiddled around yet to see how that works. I don’t presently have a compelling need for the enhanced Roku remote functions or Google Voice support because I use a Harmony 665 remote to control all my home theater devices: TV, receiver, and 4K blue ray player and that works very well. Voice control would make channel surfing easier and The wife says she might like that, so maybe I will look into it a little more. Conclusion: for the price I paid ($799) I can’t imagine there is another 65” 4K set that can touch the value position of this TV. Absolutely no regrets taking the leap of faith I mentioned earlier. One last thing. Kudos to Best Buy delivery service included at no charge as part of the purchase. The delivery guys showed up on time on the scheduled day and hauled the set down to my basement in a matter of minutes. No way I could have picked this TV up and brought it home with out owning a truck and having a burly helper. Two big thumbs up all the way.

Great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really impressed with this TV. Updating from a budget 60" LCD, so improved quality very impressive. Black so good can't tell the TV is on in a dark room during black screen. Also note, integrates well with rest of av system. Controllable via IP via harmony hub system. Overall very happy and impressed. Check out the HDR content on Netflix. Wow.

Excellent TV, fanstastic value
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The imagine quality of this TV is simply breathtaking. The Roku interface is easy to use and comes preloaded with popular apps (Netflix, Amazon, HBO, etc.) The best part about this TV is the price versus quality. It seems difficult to think you could build a TV with this amazing picture and interface far cheaper than competitors, but TCL did it.

Great for streaming, not for sports
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.People have written a lot of good reviews on this TV so I will keep this short and to the point. The remote, streaming apps, and picture during movies and steaming are incredible. What I found not so good is watching a football game over the air in 720P resolution. There is a halo or blur around each player. Very noticeable. Hard to believe, but my 5 year old, edge lit, black Friday special Vizio does a better job. I think this is due to the 60hz native refresh rate on the TCL. If you are a big sports fan, I would keep looking. I did return it, but I think I will miss it for it's other strengths. So in a nutshell, I do recommend it, just not for sports.

Picture Quality is Outstanding!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I personally read Professional reviews from CNET and TechRadar, as well as a lot of reviews from Best Buy and Google Reviews! The hype is real! I’m a believer! The picture is Incredible! I understand why the big stores don’t have the 6 series on display because Samsung QLED and LG OLED don’t want the competition from a TV that is 1/3 the price! As a Smart TV, it’s interface is simplistic, and fast! I waited 10 years to upgrade my TV, it was worth the wait! Going from a 40 inch Samsung LED 1080p to a 65 inch TCL 4K HDR, I’m happy I can watch it at close distance! Also the Blacks are impressive as well! No Buyer’s remorse at all! I look forward to buying a 90 inch plus 8k TV ten years from now when that TV is affordable! Lol

Best 4K HDR TV for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The TCL series 6 is the best 4K HDR TV at it's price point. You will find it impossible to find another TV with the same specs at a cheaper price. Will this TV beat a OLED? No but will it come very close? That's a definite Yes. This TV is a great TV for a great value.

Totally recommend, exchanged 55" for 65" for size
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Awesome TV for the price! Seriously, I have not seen a TV in this price point that even competes. We originally bought the 55" & decided we could go bigger when we got it home, so we returned it for the 65". The only complaint I have about either size TV is the dinky remote (I am probably just old & miss my 90's style mega remote) & the sound is not near the quality the picture is. We will be getting a sound bar. Also, do some research on how best to calibrate the picture. Out of the box it was great but once we changed the settings, movies & video games were even better!

Great TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV blew me away with the picture quality and the color vibrancy. I replaced a Vizio M65-C1 and this thing blows the Vizio out of the water. It really punches above its weight class. This will be the "budget" TV to beat this year. Blacks are black and the HDR is spectacular. Don't let the naysayers discourage you from this set, it is a WINNER!

Pros and Cons
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this TV for several weeks and have mixed feelings Pros - Picture quality and overall build quality is great Cons - Roku interface is painfully slow (even compared to my 2016 Roku Streaming Stick). I learned that TCL only uses a slower dual core instead of quad core processor. - Roku Remote is IR and needs to be pointed to the TV. I had no idea TCL made 2 different versions. I feel shot changed by not getting the Wifi remote that comes with the other version. - The remote has no voice controls (unlike the other Series 6 version). My kids have a hard time finding things. - The mounting screws are 6mm with special length instead of standard 8mm and don't come with any universal TV mounting kit or even TV screw kit. I had to go to local Home Depot to find the right screws. The GeekSquad installers don't carry these special screws. - There are 2 different versions of the 65" TCL Series 6. I would have purchased the other one that comes with Wifi voice remote if I would have done better research before purchase. So basically I'm going to end up buying a Roku box/stick or Apple TV to connect to bypass that poor built-in Roku this TV comes with. Had I done more research I would have just purchased a Vizio M series and saved myself these headaches.

Love This TV!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was a little leary about trying a different brand than what we have owned in the past. We bought a 65" Sony a few years ago and also own a Toshiba. This TV is remarkable for the price. We are getting older and needed something easier to use. My daughter set everything up for us and we have been able to use it without calling her a hundred times a day. Picture is excellent as well as the sound. I can't get over how easy it is to navigate! So glad we saved our money and bought this tv. It is better than our Sony and way easier to use!

Not good for watching sports
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Saw all the hyped reviews so I rolled the dice on the TCL 6 Series 65”...so...... - Streaming apps = really good - Blu ray movies = really good picture, color - Cable TV = good, the picture is as good as the feed you get. HBO/Showtime movies looked really really good. - Sports = Painful to watch. Basketball fast breaks were pixelated and blury, baseball was tough to watch, boxing/UFC was tough to watch. The 60hz native processor cant keep up with live action sports. Dont let the 240 on the box fool you, its only 60. Overall, great for movies, good for TV shows, horrible for sports. I didnt try video games. I traded it in after a week for the Sony X950G.

Fantastic TV for the price!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't think a better value exists. This TV has surpassed all my expectations at this price range. I know some people have had issues with DSE, banding, vignetting... but my picture is absolutely stunning, so no complaints here! My only complaint is there's only 3 HDMI ports. A couple more would be nice.

Fantastic for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far, this TV has been fantastic. I was already a fan of Roku, and have paired this with a Sonos Beam and have mounted both on my wall. The quality is fantastic. I could not be happier with another TV that comes close to this price point. It's a steal! People on other vendor sites mentioned banding issues. I did not have any of those from this product from Best Buy.

Nice price point but...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Well, I finally upgraded my old reliable 50 inch Panasonic Viera plasma. I loved that TV except 50 inches was nice in 2007 but I wanted a larger screen. The TCL Series 6 65 inch has GREAT specs (especially when you compare them with comparable TVs that cost several hundred dollars more.) I got the TCL on sale for $799. It was a lot of bang for the buck. I was extremely impressed when I first got it home and hooked up (only took abut 20 minutes to get it set up and running.) The ROKU platform is great and user friendly. The wife and I watched Avengers Infinity War in 4k and were blown away with how crisp and great it looked. So, why the 3 stars? I started watching other (brighter content) like BBC's Planet Earth. And then I noticed it. VERTICAL BANDING, POOR GREY UNIFORMITY, and a DIRTY SCREEN. I spent hours tweeking the settings, brightness, color tones, etc...I looked online for fixes to no avail. Now, instead of spending time enjoying my TV I'm running grey uniformity and DSE tests to see the flaws and debating whether or not to swap it out for another TCL and HOPE for a better panel or upgrade to another TV altogether. This is not how I envisioned enjoying my new purchase. To be fair the Best Buy employees have been great. I'm still within my return window and they offered to come and pick it up, put it back in the box and deliver me another TCL or the LG SK9000 (an IPS panel that apparently wont have this issue.) However, the IPS panel apparently can't handle contrast as well as the LED. And the Samsung QLED has a lot of reports that the WiFi doesn't work well. I really just want a 4k UHD 65 inch Plasma for $799. Do they make those? Ugh! I would recommend this TV to a friend IF there was better quality control with these panels. But, until then I can not in good faith recommend and will most likely be swapping this out for another brand. I refuse to spend hard earned money on a defective TV.
