Long story short, this tv went back. Could not get hdr content or gaming anywhere close to the Sony. Overall, not a bad buy for the sale price but I think it is worth paying extra for the Sony x90j.

Software issues

Every time I turned the TV on I was met with a wi-fi disconnect notice, and this was all after the most recent firmware update. Decided to return the TV for the Roku model, we'll see how that one does. Other than that BB customer service is top notch and made setting up the return an easy process.

Poor quality control, bad software

Both screens had horrible dirty screen effect, that was distracting at all times, vs just when bright images were displayed on a typical lcd display. Also these TV's were pulled from shelves due to bad performing Google tv software and even with the touted fix I still had apps hang and crash. I'm holding out for 2022 TVs, hopefully TCL gets their act together or I'll go Hisense.

Buyer beware

The settings I set don't save. While playing on the PS5 the picture dims drastically and is really annoying I keep trying to adjust it but I'm not having any success. The Netflix app crashes, it's not a true 120Hz TV the motion while watching movies is not where it should be. It's just been a headache to try to get this to work consistently which is a major problem considering the price. I will be making the move to return this. It's a shame because when it works the picture is very nice.

Doesn't Currently Work

Currently though this TV is completely unusable. If I try to play anything in UHD it either doesn't play or crashes after a few seconds (tried using Disney+, Amazon Prime and HBO). Anything playing Dolby Atmos had no sound. Launching a stadia game caused it to crash. Even when it wasn't crashing everything was lagging. I find it really hard to believe that it was intentionally shipped out in this state. I plugged a Chromecast w/ GoogleTV in and using that instead of the built in OS worked better. Video at least played and looked good. However, audio would constantly cut out still. Plan to contact support and give it a day or two for an update because I want it to be good. But if not this is getting returned.

However, I can not suggest this TV due to the many bugs. If the issues were related only to the sluggish smart tv performance would be so bad since you could just use an external device. This TV is unable even to remember the picture mode when switching inputs. I'm running the latest December patch, the one that promises to fix things and that made BestBuy return to sale this TVs.

Same feagures, half the price of the expensive TV

Excellent picture quality can’t save the usability

The picture quality is great, but at least twice a day I’m looking at a black screen because the TV has crashed and become unresponsive. The only fix for this is to literally unplug the TV from the wall and wait for it to reboot. On top of this, the WiFi will randomly disconnect and refuse to reconnect until the TV has again been unplugged from the wall. I’m sure TCL is going to respond to this with a note to make sure the TV is updated, but I’ve already tried all that. None of it has helped.

LINES ACROSS THE SCREEN IN 3DAYS HAD TO DO COMPLETE RESET TO GET REMOTE TO WORK ON A DAILY BASIS. HAD TO KEEP RESETING TO GET BLUE TOOH TO WORK. HAD EXTREME DIRTY SCREEN ( BAD SCREEN UNIFORMITY) TCL SUPPORT IS A JOKE ( They asked me to read them the manual ) I bought Hisense u8G and has as good or better picture with no dirty screen, no problems Best Buy was awesome, with my total tech membership they came and picked up TCL and delivered my Hisense at no extra charge!
