Great TV for an open box/Black Friday deal

I can put VPN apps directly on my TV which I appreciate. My only criticism is that the Variable Refresh Rate while using my PS5 is effectively useless. It constantly flashes in and out of finding the input and I’m assuming its because the frame rate is changing so frequently the TV isn’t able to keep up seamlessly. If youre spending $800 - $1000 on this TV for the VRR, I would look elsewhere but there is definite value there if VRR is something you don’t care about. I got mine for $500 open box so I would consider that an absolute steal.

Had initial software issues, where there was no audio when playing videos on certain aps (apple tv and disney+ specifically), but that seems to have resolved itself after the last software update. Was pretty frustrated initially. Almost returned it. Very happy now.

Nice picture but Google buggy

I don't know how but after 6mo a crack showed up in the display. No kids in the house. The picture is very nice but Prime is always dark. I would rate better if I knew why it cracked.

Great Picture... USB doesn't work TCL 65R646

Finally made the purchase @ 599 + tax. Used the savings for a 5 year warranty. I read all the early reviews and it seemed like this TV was released early; before all the operating systems bugs were worked out. When I bought this they seemed to be all worked out. Here are the exceptions: I have not tried shared devices (like chromcast etc), or the speech recognition. So I can’t comment on those yet. Not sure about the ARC/eARC yet. I read an Amazon review that said there are problems with this. I set mine up to pioneer VSX-532 receiver. After an hour or two it shuts down just shuts down. TV stays and will be paused on what ever input you were on DISRUPTIVE. I haven’t tried to figure this out yet. I could be the TV it could be the receiver. Tried to watch some home movies on USB thumb drive. This didn’t work at all and made the TV angry (lol). It kept rebooting until I took it out. I called TCL customer service and they couldn’t help. About a week ago the OS was updated, so, I tried again. It was better and did not recycle. But it kept giving me an error message. And prompted me to reformat. Well my pc could read these drive just fine. So there is still a problem. I tried 3 thumb drives that were exFAT (CS said it should read exfat). So, I called in to customer service again. There really isn’t anything they can do. I just need to wait for another update and hopefully it will work. CS didn’t mention ntsf but anything coming out of the box these days should read all of the most popular formats. What is does do: Great Picture! Can’t go wrong with the mini led’s. Audio is clear and can get loud. It gets real bright. It was easy to set up. Also, the streaming features work. That 4k content is amazing on this TV. I would recommend this TV but would hesitate if the person need usb support that worked or ARC/eARC. Last, I am not a gamer and can’t comment on that.

Good but not great

It has some good qualities- brightness and the refresh rate is legit. The reason i only gave 3 stars is simply because of the upscaling. It just wasnt good enough.

The real deal

It got it all: 120hz, QLED, HDR10, Mini-LED, low latency. Google TV is arguably the best platform at the moment. Deep blacks, almost no blooming at all.

If your budget is above 1K go for OLED, if not this is the best tv at this price for Sub 1K

TCL and Hisence, both get a "bum rap" because they are considered by many to be "low-cost" or "budget" devices. That can NOT be further from the truth. With proper calibration, the latest firmware, and in equal environments, I would put this TV up against virtually any Samsung, LG, and certainly Sony on the market for picture quality and "out-of-the-box" excellence. From a "cost to return on investment" perspective, TCL/Hisence... CAN NOT BE BEAT! They win, hands down. Just my opinion.

The picture and color is amazing and it's brilliant with console gaming. However, even with the Christmas update, the software is still pretty buggy. I do not have cable, I only stream and so far I've experienced random freezes, reatarts and apps that fail to load (particularly SlingTV). This can get pretty frustrating becuase it happens a LOT. Hopefully there will be more updates coming in the near future to address these issues.

High Quality Picture and Sound

My only issue is that I've had it for a year now and I'm already noticing odd behavior like the randomly TV turning off immediately after turning it on. It's a rare issue in an otherwise great TV.

Surprisingly Good

I honestly had few expectations in terms of video quality from a brand like TCL since I also own a top of the lines LG OLED and the TCL was meant to be my second set. After some 8 months later, I can say that it surpassed all my expectations. With some content, it equals and even outperforms my LG OLED, even tough blacks are not perfect and in has a limited viewing angle. It surely has become the number 1 TV in my house. Great job TCL!

I gave one of them my friend so I needed a new one in my living room so I purchased this TCL 65" Google TV and now owned it for over 11 months. My experience has been getting worse and worse as months went on with this horrible buggy Google TV. I've been dealing with so much user interface issues, random crashes, it turns off & turns on its own, and the remote control doesn't respond at times even with new batteries. I've read several warnings on message boards and reviews but I owned 3 other TCL Roku TVs with no issues so I felt I could rely on TCL developing a Google TV but I was so wrong. I should have trusted the horrible reviews and feedback on forums. The picture quality and colors are amazing but what's the point when you're dealing with so many issues? It's just like having a nice looking car but it stalls and breaks down randomly. Just absolutely horrible experience. I seriously cannot understand how this passed TCL Quality Control. Some other reviewer said it best "TCL is using the public to test Google TVs instead of themselves" and I completely agree. Using us as guinea pigs. I would take TCL's cheapest low end 65" Roku TV over this horrible TCL+Google mess. I trusted TCL throughout the past 5 years but I will never ever purchase another TCL tv again. No wonder why this TV was so cheap compared to its competitors. This TV was not ready to be on the market and you all knew it. The updates aren't fixing anything at all. Absolutely livid I spent $1000 on this. I would not even give this tv away for free. I wouldn't have even spent $10 on this tv if I knew it had this many issues. Now it won't turn on at all. Utterly shocked with TCL.

I really wanted to love this TV

Even most of the reviews regarding the crappy software are outdated with the latest firmware updates as of the beginning of December. I ran into one issue that was a deal breaker for me. I noticed when using my Roku Ultra that every once in a while there would be a significant stutter, presumably caused by frames dropping. I assumed it was the Roku since it was a few years old, and I'd never heard of a display dropping frames, as it is usually the device sending the video. After getting the latest Roku Ultra for Christmas, I was still seeing the frames drop. I downloaded Disney Plus on the Xbox Series X and it was doing the same thing. I did see some frames dropping while playing Xbox every once in a while, but I assumed it was the Xbox. After seeing this on two Rokus and the Xbox I connected my laptop and saw it there too. I called tech support and the only thing they could offer me was to try a factory reset. I did that and the problem persisted. I haven't seen anyone else talking about this in any reviews, so it could have been defective hardware. The odd thing was that it only did this when using the HDMI ports, while the apps built in to the Google TV didn't do this. I like the Roku interface better, and the Google TV apps don't seem to have as much capability, so I use the Roku as my primary device. I decided to return it anyway and try a different TV.
