Great Picture
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Spent a few days and the weekend putting this TV through my daily use cases and there is mostly great things to say about the TCL QM8K. Colors, brightness, black levels and especially ease of use of the UI or menu systems and its explanations for each and every setting have all exceeded my expectations. I even appreciate that it has a tiny bezel with zero border (you do have to look close at your regular tv to notice most have borders). My main complaint that continues to bug me. This tv has an enormous foot/stand. It does not fit on either of my tv/media stands properly. Not an issue if wall hung. Aside from the stand size. The TV picture is great for premium streaming users. Still on the fence about the upscaling of over the air content. Also, the eARC is only HDMI 2.0 60HZ. My home theater receiver is HDMI 2.1 120hz and so is the PS5 and PC I also have connected. Read on if you don't mind long winded reviews or want more on my first few days using the QM8K. My use: My main TV is always on, as I work from home. Aside from watching shows and movies. I have a home theater receiver, PS5 and PC also connected. Basically I use it as a monitor. As I often have several static screens up for hours at a time. Mini LED has to suffice for daily use TV. My living room has several windows and light is an issue (I turn all ambient nannies off). Shipping/Packaging: I have bought many TV's over my 50+ years. TCL has packaged the QM8K far better than I have ever seen. My delivery was by freight truck. Came wrapped in plastic with thick edge guards on every side and corner. Even the regular box you likely will see in store if you pick up locally is far more robust that other brands. Lots of cardboard, Styrofoam and padding. This TV should arrive securely. I would say TCL could add pull tabs for the taped screen wrap on the frame as it was a bit harder to get the tape off to reveal the screen. Setup out of the box: This is straight forward. You do have to disassemble the stand a little to bolt it on the TV if not wall mounting (no wall mounts are included). The stand is mostly plastic with grooves to route cabling through it and can be mounted to TV with almost no gap or up to a few inches to get a very slim soundbar under it. Sadly, my 2 tv stands are 14 inches depth and the stand is 15 inches. This brings me to my major complaint. This stand might be for safety or from falling issues in the past. Or possibly I received a stand from a bigger tv, or more likely that the stand is designed to fit the entire line of tv sizes as a budget move. As I wanted this TV for a corner unit. I have it tilted a bit off axis of 45 degrees to see it from more rooms in my house. This required me to use shims to remove wobble as the rubber feet are not on a solid surface. Safety wise, large feet are probably good if you have earthquakes or kids/pets that might bump the TV. For me, its an eye sore that makes me ponder its place in my living room. Buyers with bigger furniture or wall mounting will not have this issue. Picture/Sound: This is why you are buying the QM8K. If you are a modern TV user and get your content from streaming services and mainly watch 4k or UHD content. Or even if you hook up a PC with a beefy graphics card or PS5. It really does look great out of the box. And most modes are decent with minimal tweaks. Many reviews talk about Filmmaker Mode as the set it and forget it. And it almost is for me too, but not for my over the air content. Overall, brightness and colors are excellent. In certain picture modes (9 to choose), blacks are good to great. I think the demo clips you often see on display models, is this TV's daily job when fed premium content. Should you need/want to to tweak the image quality. The menu systems is top notch. Each setting has a small window describing what that setting does. And if you use multiple HDMI ports. Each connected device can have its own picture mode saved per HDMI, or you get the set dialed in and make all HDMI ports the same. However, If you watch mostly over the air tv from local stations that are not NEXTGEN TV, or basic cable. FOR ME, the QM8K does not upscale to a level that beats the TV I want it to replace. It upscales streaming stuff pretty good, even media files on PC look good. But, shows recorded on my Tablo (DVR for local over the air TV), while still looking pretty good. Are off a bit and looked fake'ish. News casters or anyone wearing white clothing appears almost reflective or neon, possible blooming issue. I just can't dial it in, and the same show on Hulu does not have that issue. Maybe it is just my equipment or cables, but it is there and my wife sees it too. I hope to find an optimal mode or setting as we do several shows a week from the Tablo. I see many just tweaking the film makers mode and call it a day. Sound with the Bang & Olufsen speakers is good, potentially great, but as I put the TV in the corner and have a surround sound receiver. I will not rely on them or really rate them. I always prefer my audio to aim out to the seating area and these speakers seem to fire out the top and back of the set. It does get loud and no distortion was heard, so maybe you can get by without external speakers or sound bar. Final thoughts: I wish the set had all 4 HDMI ports the same HDMI 2.1 144HZ. Also, since TCL is hitting hard at the premium TV's in this price range. A heavy, but smaller steel foot would be greatly appreciated. Smaller remote would also be nice. Two final observations that may have no relation for some, but I noticed the remote works for basic functions on PS5 after its turned on, weird. And my tv in my bedroom (Samsung) now randomly turns on throughout the day since this TCL arrived. I can't pin this behavior down yet. If it is the TCL, it may become my secondary gaming display and sadly lose its main display position.

Amazing and exceeded expectations!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really excellent tv. The qm8k series is what’s it’s made out to be. Coming from an OLED guy, it is 90 percent, if not more, there. Blacks are very deep. Blooming is none to not noticeable minimum. I don’t have to worry about whites bleeding through the blacks. Colors are rich and vibrant. The nit rating is exceptional, and in reality it is! I can’t have the backlight at 100% and watch content comfortably in my living room setting. It’s at 70% to 80% max. And in a completely dark room, 30% when playing on the ps5. It will excel for people who place this tv in a bright room. I have 0 complaints about this tv. Looking to eventually upgrade to a 75” size in this same model or, if in my budget, to a 77” oled.

A perfect solution for my Bright room.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I replaced a tcl series 6. I read reviews for months and originally decided to go with a lg OLED c5. The C5 's were on a great sale but my living room is very bright and I prefer a bright screen. The darkness of OLEDs gave me pause and the sensitivity to direct sunlight would have made the OLED purchase a risk. A source I trust rtings .com had a in-depth review of the QM8K . I compared that to other reviews and specs and it was a perfect fit. I use my Tv for console gaming, I have a PS5, Series X , and little used switch. The Qm8k's game mode is great with fast refresh rates and no lag. The intelligent picture adjusts to the lighting of the room. I am loving my TCL QM8K

Like hate relationship with this tv
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'll do the negatives first. Hdmi is finnicky as the day is long. I had to replace most of my cables , because I could not get picture and or audio through them even though they worked on the old tv. I've never gotten the return sound through the hdmi cables attached and working. Though everything worked just fine on the old tv. I had to use optical audio return four sound to come through my receiver. I could not get any video through my receiver with my switch 2. Everything had to be connected directly to the TV, which is a frustration.Because I have more objects that require the connection that I do ports. This TV should have been backwards compatible with older connections. However, it is not which is extremely frustrating. Google TV interface is something that is yet to be desired.I finally figured out a way to disable it or not.Use it so that I don't have to use the remote that came with a tv and I don't have to use the google tv interface. The automatic switching between ports works nice. However, is not consistent. So sometimes I have to use the original remote. I dislike the silver bezel around the t.V , and when the t v is off , the reflection of the lights are all wavy , which is kind of odd looking. I would honestly prefer to have a matte finish on the TV as opposed to high gloss. This would solve a lot of reflection problems. The positives. This TV is very bright.I'm able to eliminate glare from ceiling light fixtures on the screen while I watch TV.Additionally, it also great with the blinds open in the room.So I can see things. I can now watch amazon prime's red one without having to turn the brightness all the way up , whereas with my old tv I could not. The resolution is fantastic and it works really well for gaming. This TV does not weigh all that much, so I was able to reuse my existing amount and mounted to the wall. However, the vesa screw holes are slightly different. So I had to adjust accordingly up-and-down ultimately, I could not get the TV at the exact same height. My old one was that due to the screw hole differences. I've honestly thought about the returning this t.V , probably about twenty to thirty times. The only reason i'm keeping it is because I got it for a great price

Bravia 9 like
|Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.[Employee of bestbuy] There are lots of things to like about the QM8K, from the OLED level blacks, to the near reference level colour, and I would say the only noticible thing that it lacks compared to the Bravia 9 is the power of the Bravia XR processor. At times, such as when you’re watching 4K youtube and a part comes up that requires a lot of image processing from the TV, the UI will begin to lag, but its just the youtube menu being a second or two behind, and then as soon as you exit the video or the app, its completely fine again, so its totally liveable, because realistically how often do you need to do something in the middle of a video, and also the 1 to 2 second delay is very easy to deal with as long as you have a little patience. The picture of the TV is perfect, close to reference, but the Bravia 9 will of course be more accurate, but the QM8K may look brighter and more vivid, so to some people, although the picture is less acurate than Bravia 9, it may look better to them on the QM8K. The zero border design is nice, as well as the overall design and aesthetics of the TV and accessories. Compared to the QM7K, you aren’t going to be totally blown away, like you were when you made the first few hundred dollar jump to get up to the QM7K, you’re paying for 1% differences with the QM8K, just like with the Bravia 9, because the point is that you truly care about how accurate your TV looks, and if you don’t care whether or not your TV is completely accurate, then the QM7K will be fine for you. To put arbitrary numbers to it, the QM7K will have near perfect colour and contrast 95% of the time, meaning 5% of the time, colours may be oversaturated, or you may get some blooming and break the OLED like immersion. The QM8K would be more like 99% of the time, as its not 100% reference accurate, despite being close, and if you know enough about the TV to know where its weak points for blooming are, then you’ll be able to see a little bit of blooming with content that specifically hits those points, but that’s extremely rare to be able to find to begin with, so unless you’re really trying to make the TV bloom or halo, it’s always OLED like precision, and the off angle blooming is much better than the QM7K as well, being near non existent on the QM8K.

Among the best non-OLED TV out there
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV rocks! Vibrant colors, super bright and deep enough blacks for a non-OLED TV. I have it on a wall in a bright lit room during the day, and it performs admirably. There are a ton of customizable settings but keep it simple and you won't be disappointed. A great buy at an incredibly affordable price for the performance.

Very satisifed
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Moved up from a 15 year old HD LCD tv. The picture is awesome. I am not very knowledgeable about all the settings, so pretty much using as right out of the box and still very happy with the picture quality (color, brightness, and sharpness). I just use the presetting for the various picture and sound modes. For me, the speakers are more that adequate and a big improvement from what I have had in the past. I am not interested in having a separate sound system and see no need unless you have a room set up as a home theater. The Dolby Vision and Sound are great to me. Infrequently, I do notice some pixelating when streaming 720p or 1080p. I looked at many reviews and this TV was supposed to have better than average upscaling. Maybe many other comparable TVs for the price would be the same or worse including the QM6K and QM7K.

Excellent purchase
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Tv is bright. Almost too bright on vivid and standard settings. Colors are outstanding. No viewing angle issues anywhere in large room. Wife and kids mostly watch movies and I use for sports. No motion issues at all. Only negative is I cannot seem to figure out how to pair this tv with my Xfinity remote

Expected better, but it's just OK
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this TCL MiniLED television to replace an 8 year old flat screen. I have another MiniLED TV in our family room and have been really impressed with that so I was excited to get this one. I had multiple issues with this TV. First, the audio is really bad. I expect audio to be sub-par on these newer TVs, but was hoping for better with the Bang & Olufsen speakers. No such luck. My wife and I both felt it was near unusable with the built-in speakers. That being said, I usually buy a sound bar for our TVs anyway since it makes such a big difference. The next issue I had was ghosting or motion blur. This is when you see trails behind fast moving images on the screen. The majority of the shows I watch on TV are sports related, so this was a huge issue for me. I was watching a baseball game and could see a white blue behind any thrown or hit balls. Initially, I thought I could eliminate it in the settings and I spent a long time trying different tweaks to the settings, but couldn't get rid of it. Perhaps there is a way to eliminate this, but it should be a lot easier to find if there is a setting. When we were watching anything other than sports, we never had an issue with motion blur, which is why I gave this a 3 star rating. I go to my primary TV to watch all sports now. On the positive side, the picture is very bright and colors display accurately. It has standard mounting options so I was easily able to install my existing mount onto the TV and hang it on the wall. It comes with GoogleTV operating system so getting that setup was relatively easy also. One other negative that I ran into was using a sound bar via the optical input. If you do this, the TV remote cannot control volume of the sound bar. This turns out to be pretty annoying since you need to keep two remotes around...one to control the TV (on/off, channel, etc.) and a separate one for the audio. I never had this issue on other TVs so I'm not sure if this is true for all TCL TVs or just this one. Overall, this TV is OK. Even though it has a football player on the box, it is not great for watching sports due to the motion blur. Watching everything else seems fine. Audio is also not great. For the suggested retail price and the issues is see with it, I would not recommend this TV.

Very good set but it has issues with Dolby Vision
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I drank the kool-aid for all of the online reviews that talked about how good this set was. And it is a good set. The brightness and color reproduction are very good for a mid range set. However, this set (and it would appear most TCL sets) have issues with displaying a quality dolby vision image (the images look washed out). None of the Internet or YouTube reviews that I read discussed this. However, an AI search revealed this info. However, the set looks fantastic displaying HD and HD10+ video. I was ready to return the set because I use DV on my other two high sets and the images are top notch. However, once I attached an AppleTV 4K to the QM8K and set the output to HD/HD+, I was very impressed and decided to keep the set.

Very Pleased With This Purchase
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV delivers all the features I have found in various reviews. It was relatively easy to install the stand. The TV provides great amount of brightness and color, and it works well with my Apple TV streaming device. The smart TV OS itself works very well for streaming. Thus far I am very pleased with this product and happy I purchased it rather than the Samsung OLED TV I had considered, primarily because of fear of OLED burn-in. To my eyes it is very competitive with the OLED.

Great TV by TCL, highly recommend!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Coming from another TCL tv that is around 8 years old, the QM8K is amazing. First, the colors are way better, and black looks black unlike previously it looked like dark gray. Previous TCL was a roku tv so I was hesitant but after a month with this new tv, google tv is way better, and so must smoother and faster between switching apps. The when your watching 4k HDR the image looks amazing. I also love the remote, love how it is backlighted when you move the remote.

Disappointed.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is bright. Out of the box settings are vivid at a hundred percent brightness, it will burn your retinas out. I am in a semi dark room with two lamps , burning 6500k bulbs and the screen looks like I have 2 lighthouses in my room. It's a mirror. Be assured this is not an OLED and the upscaling leaves something to be desired. Using directv @1080i. Out of the box, this thing needs to be calibrated I found some settings online and that helped fix some issues. Still , this thing is bright in a semi dark room. Bright spots on the screen can seem to be washed out. Blacks are good but somewhat crushed. Like I said, this is no OLED coming from an eight year old LG B7 I was expecting more after seeing reviews on line. I had experienced burn in on the LG twice and did not want to go through that again. So I was looking for a mini led to bypass that aggravation. Now here's the rub I have an older Onkyo TX-SR805 receiver that worked fine with my LG tv, through the toss link (Optical) cable. Hooking up my new TCL QM8K with the same cable, I was only able to get 2 channel stereo no 5.1 surround. I tried everything finally called TCL twice and was on the phone for over an hour each time, only to be told that it would not provide 5.1 through the optical cable. This really bummed me out. I guess my old receiver that I bought eighteen years ago was not future proof, so I'll be looking for a new one. One of the TCL "technicians" told me I should buy a different tv. This should not be an issue as, like I said my LG worked just fine through the optical cable. I guess technology has just bypassed me.

I have three QD-OLED's (77" S90D, 55" S95D, 65" A95L) and this QM8K is about 85% of the black levels and color volume, but twice as bright. He games competitively, and seriously loves it. Impressive
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have not had the TV very long, but so far it is impressive. Out of the box colors can vary by viewing mode, so it will require some tweaking, but it is bright. Sound is better than I expected but you do have to turn it up pretty high. I recommend at minimum a soundbar. Streaming 4k looks very good and HD sources can vary by where they are coming from. Very happy so far.
