Much brighter than my OLED TV with a wide viewing angle with no perceptible loss of picture. Our large rectangular room has seating on all three walls witj the TV wall mounted over a fireplace. VAiewing is fine from any wall.

This TV is incredible!
I bought this TV to replace my 77" OLED TV.
The black levels are better than my OLED TV.
This TV is so much brighter than my OLED TV.
And the 85" screen size feels much bigger than my old 77".
Football season will be great with this TV!

This is an incredible panel, especially for the cost. It is the brightest TV I've ever seen - enough that I prefer to turn it down a bit in my dimly lit space. Bias lighting helps a ton. It does require some settings customization to get the best looks out of it - check out the Rtings review for the best setup. There is still some small fan noise at 60% brightness - a rhythmic "brrr-brrr" sound that can only be heard when it is very quiet in the room. I don't notice it at all when playing content, but it does get a little louder at maximum brightness. I sit pretty close to this TV (~ 8ft) so that probably has some to do with it. Updating to the latest firmware helped with some of the e-arc lipsync issues I was having playing through HBO max / netflix on the built-in google TV. Make sure to turn the motion settings to "custom" and all the sliders all the way down - this helps with both lipsync, blur and judder without too much processing.

Great picture, good selection of apps. Needed to add Roku stick so I coukd stream spectrum in 4K. The picture is bright which is helpful as we have it in a brightly lit room. It has a digital tuner atsc 3 for over the air hd broadcasts and the built in speakers are nice, no sound bar needed unless you want the fully theater experience. Hounted it with an extendable wall mount so we could pull it out and tilt it for better in kitchen viewing. It has the new whva screen for better off angle viewing. Very pleased, would buy it again.

Very bright tv, much better alternative to samsung and their significantly higher prices. We bought this exact tv in 98" and 85". For "flat" tvs, they have great built in speakers (though nowhere near what actual bookshelf or floor standing speakers). Heavy tv.

Great TV but atrocious support from Best Buy

The TV is great and the picture quality is equally great. A lot of people compare this TV to OLED's and say its equal to or better than them but I don't agree. Don't get me wrong the picture quality is amazing and can get better when you calibrate it but I still think my LG OLED has a better overall picture.
Delivery Debacle 1
I gave this TV 4 out of 5 stars solely bc of best buy and the delivery issues I had. The initial delivery appt was between 2pm through 5 pm and around 6pm with no TV I decided to call best buy to get a status. I gave the support person all my info and was told that my TV was never put on the truck so it would not be delivered today. Mind you they never once called me and I had to reach out to them to get a status so needless to say I was not happy. I said okay what is the delivery time going to be tomorrow and they said it won't be tomorrow and there aren't any delivery openings for 7 days. I said so let me get this straight, you guys (Best Buy) mess up and do no put my TV on the delivery truck and now I have to go to the back of the line again and wait another week to have it delivered? She simply said yep. I was so annoyed that I tried to cancel the whole order but bc I used a visa gift card that I no longer had (it had a zero balance after using it on the tv and I threw it away) I basically couldn't cancel the order without losing the $200 visa gift card. So begrudgingly I went ahead with the new delivery day.
Delivery Debacle 2
So now lets fast forward a week and this delivery had a drop off window of 11am to 1pm and again I had to leave work early and got to my house around 10:55am. Around noon I decided to check the status of the delivery on best buys website and it was saying I needed to schedule a delivery time. I was confused by that so I called best buy support but while I was on hold I checked my security cameras and best buy showed up around 10:35am (so 15 mins earlier than the scheduled delivery window) and they rang the doorbell twice and legitimately waited 90 seconds (I timed them) and then got back in their truck drove off. So to recap they arrived at 10:35am and drove off at 10:37 am all while their EARLIEST arrival time was 11:00am. When I got a rep on the phone I gave them the run down and she agreed that they came early and outside of the delivery window so she said she'd reach out to the delivery people and she placed me on hold. When she came back she said she spoke with them and based on the fact that they weren't at my house during THEIR scheduled delivery window they would come back before the end of the day. i tried to get a slightly firmer time than 'would come back by COB' but she wouldn't give me anything more than that. Yeah to the shock of no one they never came back. So I called support and was again told I would have to go to the back of the delivery line and it would be another 6 days before best buy could drop it off....assuming they'd put it on the truck this time or show up when they were supposed to.
At this point it had already been about 3 weeks since I ordered the tv and was looking at another 6 days on top of that for the next potential delivery so I changed the order to pick up. I tried to pick up the tv in my SUV but I was told by best buy that I could not lay the tv on its side (it has to sit upright) and doing so would void the warranty. They recommended I get a uhaul van if I didn't want it delivered...ha. So I went to uhaul and drop another $100+ to rent a uhaul van and FINALLY got possession of the TV. Oh and the cherry on top, during my last call with best buy support they said they'd mail me a $100 best buy gift card for my troubles and as of today, (approximately a month since I picked up the TV) I have yet to receive any gift cards from best buy.

Absolutely love this 85” TCL QM8K. I had the QM7K before and thought that was great—but the QM8K steps it up in every way. So far have watched NFL games and movies and the TV is awesome. It feels like you’re getting the performance of a much more expensive Mini LED TV without breaking the bank.
One thing to be aware of—the mounting pattern is VESA 500x600, which is larger than what most standard 85” mounts support. I found a heavy duty mount for around $120. Definitely something to plan ahead for if you’re wall-mounting it the day it arrives.
Aside from that minor hiccup, I’m beyond happy with this purchase. If you’re on the fence—just go for it. You won’t be disappointed.

Looks worse than 2023 QM8 and still has same flaws

This TV is no where near as bright as the 2023 QM8. It does not have the nice OLED-like 3D effect even in Vivid mode and max brightness. Definitely a visual downgrade in every way other than maybe the blacks look a little deeper when something like the night sky is showing. I compared them side-by-side and it is an incredible difference in picture quality.
The TV also has a terrible flicker effect on certain objects in scenes when the camera is panning. The biggest culprits seems to be windows of sky scrapers or grassy fields, exactly like the 2023 QM8 has. This is regardless of motion clarity or judder settings. I compared this next to the 2025 U8 from Hisense and it manages to make everything buttery smooth, although the colors, darks, and highlights aren't quite as nice as the QM8 which makes it a bit more difficult to choose between them. This issue should have definitely been resolved by now. Not sure what the TCL engineers are doing with their time at this point but they need to address this glaring problem especially when TCL is now charging premium prices.
Additionally, they are still using the same horrible HDMI ports of the 2023 QM8 that require you to go out and download CRU (Custom Resolution Utility) to lower the max allowed bandwidth to 40Gbps (Instructions below to save you the immense headache I went through to figure this out) if you want to game on your PC at 120hz. And no, after lowering it to 40Gbps you will not be able to use the TV's advertised refresh rate of 144hz or 12-bit color. It will only allow you to use 120hz and 10-bit color. If you do not use CRU your TV will constantly black out every few seconds and lose connection to the PC unless you drop down to 60hz or lower the resolution. I've reported this to them two years ago for the 2023 QM8 and they apparently ignored me. Truly unacceptable.
If they fix these issues this TV could be a great deal for the price. I would even choose it over an OLED. But it seems they are incapable of improvements and only make each iteration worse than the last. Looking at the reviews and complaints of the 2024 model confirms that this will be a pattern going forward.
*Instructions for CRU for PC Gamers* (THIS MAY VOID THE WARRANTY ON THE TV, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!)
Google "CRU by ToastyX" (Custom Resolution Utility) and download it. Extract the files to a folder on your PC. Open the CRU program and double-click on the HDMI 2.1 connection under "extension blocks". Double-click on "HDMI 2.1 support" in the "Data Blocks" table, then change the "Maximum FRL rate" from "48 Gbps" to "40 Gbps" Then restart your PC. You should be able to game at 4k 120hz and 10-bit color after that. Good luck.

TCL did a good job of updating your colors to calibration accuracy this year with this model. However, where I felt it fell short was on motion clarity. Too much motion blur for me. For me there was also way too much judder even after playing with every setting of turning it off, turning it on which unfortunately frustrating me to the point where I returned the TV. If your color accuracy person, I will say it did a very good job in that area. This could be a great TV to look at for Black Friday if the price goes down for a basic 85 inch TV.
