To start off, I've owned a relatively modern 2.1 soundbar from a competitor brand. I never really had complaints, but I always felt it was lacking in some kind of aspect. The 2.1 performance was decent, but there was always something *missing* be it subjective sound or features. > Enter the TCL Q65H Unboxing was simple. Typical soundbar "L" packaging. The 5.0 bar itself is a lot bigger than my previous 2.0 bar setup and tends to hang over on my bedroom stand. Not the biggest con since the rubber feet themselves grip on, but I'll likely have to figure something out in this regard. Maybe mounting the bar itself above my TV? In regards to that.. Yes, it does includes specific mounting bars. So that's and overall plus if I do decide to go this route. Remote is decent. Doesn't stand out. seems cheap, but works as one would need. I'll be using eARC through my native TV remote so this isn't make or break. SUBJECTIVE FIRST IMPRESSIONS: To say I'm blown away is an understatement. I typically wouldn't associate TCL as a brand that is known for "sound", but I've been super happy with the level of performance in basic streaming services that support auto detection. Sound is obviously subjective, but the soundstage on this unit has been significantly more immersive over my previous 2.1 setup. It's like.. night and day in some circumstances. Really impressed, especially at this price point. Music? Also good and I haven't even bothered to tune the thing. I'm pretty sure the average user wouldn't need to mess with this at all... It just works. PROS: -Subjectively sounds really good! -eARC streamline makes basic operation a breeze. -BT connects to my iPhone without hassle. Very easy to stream music and just play music without fiddling around with extra connections. -Supports most off the latest technologies including Dolby ATMOS and DTS:X -Satellite auto paired.. No real need to mess around with it. -Easy to set per room tuning. Has pre configured profiles that work well. -Stock HDMI cable has ferrite chokes, Improving and avoiding EMI issues from surrounding electronics. -Gets very loud without distorting! CONS: -Remote seems cheaper than my previous system.. (same price point).. Then again, the performance is also a step up, so I'm just nitpicking I suppose. OVERALL: It's hard to really fault this thing, especially if it were to go on sale. Unless you're an absolute audiophile and are looking for the best possible solution, then yeah, maybe legacy speaker setups are the better option for you. If you're looking for a good value 5.1 soundbar setup.. This thing is really difficult to beat. I generally agree with the perceptive conscious around this thing. It punches well above its price class. No questions. Haven't really run into issues within the first week either. It would 100% recommend this to everyone I know. It's a 5/5 from me.

Can Get Extremely Loud & Sounds Exceptional

BACKGROUND: OK, I’ll admit it, I am a HDTV Sound-Bar junkie. Have owned about two dozen different manufacturer’s models from small entry level 2-channel units, up to very large 9.1.2 systems. Currently I have five sound bars in actual use with this new TCL Q65H 5.1 replacing one of those existing units that does not have a subwoofer. SETUP: Pretty easy to connect the two supplied non-polarized power cables to the soundbar and subwoofer. Then add the suppled high-speed HDMI cable to my HDTV’s eARC port to the sounbar’s eARC port. The soundbar connected wirelessly with the sub when both were powered up. Turned on the TV and began to step through the suppled remote’s numerous sound features and options. Quick and painless. APPLICATION NO: Similar to most all vendor’s soundbar equipment, TCL has dedicated Android & IOS applications to access additional features. But whenever I install a new electronic device, I prefer to demo the unit without an application on the first day. And I can state that this TCL Q65H Soundbar functioned just fine using the suppled remote control without any additional assistance from an app. The only feature that could not be configured without the app is the “AI Sonic”, along with no access to device status information (Firmware Version, SN, Device ID, etc) APPLICATION YES: Day two, I did download the TCL HOME application that requires an TCL account setup with a Username with Password, plus your email address for verifying your new credentials. Yeah, I know, another online account... But I did find the features accessible through the Android phone app was worth the added configurations steps. I found using the app was far easier than the using the remote to toggle the different sound modes and EQ settings used to determine the most beneficial configuration for the media being watched. Example: A news TV station does not require “Surround” or “Movie Mode” and will sound better selecting “Voice Mode”. Note that when you use the remote to find the best setting, it will only cycle through all of the different modes; no backing up. While the application will let directly selecting the mode allowing you to switch between two modes for quick sound comparisons. Sweet Indeed! AI SONIC: Once the TCL Home application is properly installed, you are able to setup the “AI Sonic” feature that will use your phone’s microphone to measure test tones from the soundbar to equalize to your room’s acoustics and theoretically improve the overall soundstage immersive experience. Actually, you can setup three different AI Sonic configurations depending on your seating position locations. But in reality, one was sufficient for my demo. And yes, once the AI Sonic is properly calibrated, this system delivers a noticeable overall soundstage improvement with some of the Sound Modes. SOUND MODES: I really appreciate the numerous EQ Sound Modes TCL has pre-programmed: Standard, Movie, Music, Voice, Game, and Sports. Plus, there are Effects selections: Night, Surround Enhance, and Voice Enhance. In addition, there are Bass and Treble “Low, Medium, High” options. Adding in the AI Sonic feature, you should absolutely be able to fine tune the TCL Q65H to your specific listening requirements. I love the ability to tweak this system to perfection. VOLUME: This has to be one of the loudest soundbars I have ever demo’ed (installed in a 12’ x 17’ x 8’ Living Room.). Watching a DVD of the original 1996 “Twister”, I only had the volume set to 20 (can go to 100). And this soundstage was not only loud, but with the sub-woofer (placed in a corner) added thunderous bass that could be not only heard but also felt. Plus, I could not detect any distortion. REAR SPEAKER OPTION: Sadly, this appears to be the Q65H’s only limitation. There is no current option to purchase a set of rear speakers. Therefore, if you are looking for a system with future upgrading capabilities, you’ll need to look elsewhere; maybe check out the TCL Q85H. Note that TCL states “… The main bar incorporates not only the left, center, and right channels, but also uses our unique RAY Danz technology to steer the sound from the incorporated rear channel to the sides and even behind the listener…) DOLBY ATMOS: Since the Q65H does not have top mounted speakers to bounce effects off of your ceiling, the Dolby Atmos has to be simulated with proprietary codex’s similar to the rear speaker simulation mentioned above. To me, it’s a bit of sound processing “virtual magic” tricking the listener into hearing effects that are not actually being emitting from dedicated Atmos speakers. Nevertheless, the TCL Q64H does sound extraordinary and can compete with my other soundbars that actually have up-firing top mounted Atom speakers. RATING: After using the TCL Q65H Sound-Bar with their Home Application for the past five days, I believe it has earned a solid 5-Stars Rating for its ability to provide the listener a clear, loud, and overall three-dimensional audio experience that extends far beyond traditional two-speaker HDTV’s. Overall, I am extremely impressed with this sound system and will highly recommend to friends and family members.

I'm really happy with this soundbar. Came nicely packaged and its thick (wide) and heavy (does not feel cheap like other soundbars out there). The subwoofer is wireless and feels heave and sturdy too. Setting it up was super easy. They include to removable power cords (for the soundbar and for the woofer), an HDMI cable, remote control (batteries included), manual and metal brackets so you can wall mount the soundbar out of the box, all included! Once I plugged everything to power outlets, turned it on and the woofer paired automatically with the soundbar. The soundbar has two HDMI ports (one is an ARC one and the other a regular HDMI in port). It also has an optical in and USB in. Right away I downloaded their TCL phone app and it detected the soundbar right away (it connects via Bluetooth to the app, no Wi-Fi). With the app you can check if there is a firmware update or not (none needed in my case). After that, it uses your phone's mic to do an "Ai" tunning, kind of tuning the sound to your surroundings and listening position. The soundbar has several EQ modes (nigh, movie, game, voice) etc. and you can also adjust the bass and treble levels individually. Sound is amazing and the woofer hits hard and clear, no distortion. The soundbar supports Atmos (although I did not see any upward firing speakers, it does a good job at simulating the height channels and surround). I like the night mode and voice mode so I can listen clearly at what is being spoken during the night without the rumbling base so I don't wake up my family when I'm watching content at night. Definitely great soundbar and super easy to hook up and setup, one of the simplest install I have done. Plus, they include all you need if you want to wall mount it!!!

Great sound for my loft TV

I originally wanted to replace this with my Yamaha soundbar connected to my TCL TV. I figured it would match perfectly being it is the same brand. Also, my previous soundbard did not have a subwoofer so it would be a great upgrade. The setup is in my home office shed and it is already a small space. The problem I did not anticipate is how much wider the TCL soundbar is and how it will sit/mount under the TV. This soundbar sits differently than my previous one. I ended up using it in my loft with a Vizio TV and wow it sounds really good. It works well . There are many different modes from standard, movie, music, game, and more. The subwoofer is wireless. All you need to do is plug it in. It communicates with the subwoofer wirelessly. This will allow you place it anywhere in the room. Currently, I have it right next to the subwoofer. It sounds great. I would probably set it next to the couch. That is how I have my living room set up. It sounds good with the bass coming from the opposite side. With HDMI ARC connectivity, it integrates with the existing remote. This will also allow for any other device to use the soundbar. I have a X-Box connected to the TV. I can utilize the soundbar for sound while playing video games or consuming media with the X-Box. You do not need the remote although, the remote has the ability to change the modes and other settings. The remote is a little confusing at first. There are plus and minus buttons. These will control the levels of the last setting you have pressed. For example, if you press the bass button, you can set it to low, medium, high. Or with the plus/minus buttons, you can also change it. I have connected my Google Pixel via Bluetooth. I played music through it. I am curious as to why it wants access to my contacts and history. I did not give it access. It sounds really good. I did not try the app. Both iOS and Android stores have bad reviews on it. Some have stated it will not log in which tells me you have to create an account. I did not want to go through that process. I can change the settings with the remote just fine. A little cumbersome but it works. Overall, it is a nice soundbar with subwoofer. Remote is a little quirky but usable. I am pleased with the sound it produces.

I was looking for a soundbar to connect to an older TCL TV I have, so I gave the TCL Q65H soundbar a try and I am glad I did. Upon opening the box, the unit felt premium. Set up was a breeze. The subwoofer auto synced which was great. But how does it sound? Amazing!!! While watching movies it feels like the sounds are coming from all around. The explosions make me feel like i am at the theater. What is nice about this soundbar is the clarity is great. There is a voice mode that makes dialogue stand out and easy to understand. There is also night mode which backs off the imact of the subwoofer, which my wife appreciates. I can connect my phone via Bluetooth to send music which is a cool feature. I feel the TCL Q65H delivers a premium experience at a heck of a good price.

    Solid Upgrade Over TV Speakers

TLDR: A decent entry-level soundbar with simple set-up. Dramatically improves TV listening, but nowhere near the quality of the premium models. PROS Multiple Connection Options Simple eARC control Ray-Danz tech for expanded soundstage CONS Initial set-up via Android didn't work Mixed results with TCL app (Some items still in Chinese) Lackluster Bass & Low Frequency Extension SET-UP & USE Like most new products with companion apps, my initial set-up attempt was with an Android smartphone. Initial set-up with Android didn't work. After multiple attempts with my Android phone and Android tablet, I gave up. The app refused to recognize the speaker regardless of how I tried to connect it. Fortunately, my iPad worked perfectly, immediately finding, pairing, and registering the Q65 to my account. After which, my Android devices could see and control the Q65, but it wasn't until an iOS device had to step in and save the day. Unacceptable, in my opinion, in today's day and age. The Q65 is replacing an aging Polk React soundbar and sub combo. The Polk was a decent product at the time, but was, and is, hampered by its lack of eARC or ARC support. It wasn't a seamless experience using it with a newer TV. The TCL Q65 on the other hand, paired immediately with my Hisense 50" 4k Roku TV. No fuss, no issues. Hooking the Q65 up via the eARC HDMI port and the corresponding eARC HDMI output on my TV was simple and straight forward. My Hisense TV recognized the Q65 and immediately programmed the Roku remote to control the soundbar in addition to the TV. You couldn't have asked for a simpler set-up. SOUND QUALITY Sound quality for what I would consider a budget, entry-level soundbar is surprising decent. But any soundbar is a substantial improvement in audio quality over TV speakers. TV audio nowadays is pathetic. The Q65 offers a worthwhile upgrade in audio performance. I find the Q65's different audio modes particularly effective. Using movie mode opens up the pseudo surround processing. However, it often overpowers the center dialog while it enhances the surround processing. The Vocal setting is nice to have during late night watching. The vocal setting does an admiral job at boosting voices without needing to turn up the system. I find this setting very useful and is an excellent compromise over using Night mode. One thing that users will likely be left wanting is in bass performance. The ported 6.5" subwoofer just can't produce that deep rumbling bass of higher end units. While it will produce bass, it is more just bass sound than an actual rumble. Unlike most subs that have down-firing woofers, the Q65 has a rear-facing woofer and port. The ported enclosure does help produce more bass sound, but there isn't a lot of amp in the sub to make bass authoritative. More just like dipping a toe in the water than jumping in with both feet. FINAL THOUGHTS The TCL app and speaker need a good update to work properly. TCL needs to get their Android app straightened out and they need to remove the leftover Chinese labels in their iOS app. The Ray-Danz technology that is said to widen the soundstage and surround performance, falls off dramatically when the Q65 is not mounted on a wall. The Q65 really needs to be wall-mounted to take full advantage of the technology. Without a wall to bounce audio off of, the surround effect is greatly diminished. TCL has still packed a bunch of goodies and tech into the Q65. It is compatible with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X surround sound. It has multiple inputs and outputs (USB, HDMI in, HDMI eARC, and Optical). That is a very good selection of inputs and outputs. More than many others that cost significantly more. The Q65 offers a lot of technology and value for the money. RECOMMENDED

Purchased to replace a Vizio 5.1 Surround system. I liked it so much, ghat I purchased a 2nd one for another room. I can finally understand speech and easily adjust the sounds for each program or game that I'm watching. I used hdmi arc that came with it and it basically sets itself up. I was shocked at how little I had to do. Wish all electronics were this easy to set up.

out of 5 I couldn’t be happier with the TCL Q65H Q Class 5.1 Channel Soundbar. The sound quality is honestly way beyond what I expected for the price. The Dolby Atmos and Ray Danz technology make movies feel bigger, clearer, and more immersive than ever. Dialogue is crisp, the surround effects are impressive, and the wireless subwoofer delivers deep, rich bass that fills the room without overwhelming it. What really surprised me is how premium it sounds compared to how much I paid—this system easily competes with setups that cost twice as much. Getting it during the Black Friday holiday sale made the deal even sweeter. It feels like I upgraded my entire home theater while still saving a ton of money. If you want powerful, cinematic sound without breaking the bank, this soundbar is absolutely worth it. A true Black Friday win.
