I'm Honestly Blown Away By The TCL Q65H!!

I am writing this review for the TCL Q65H Q 5.1 Class Sound Bar Let me just say—I’ve owned a few soundbars over the years, but this one? This one really impressed me. From the minute I opened the box, I could tell TCL actually thought about real users. The packaging was clean, everything was labeled, and they even included a high-speed HDMI cable, which most companies would leave out. That alone saved me an extra trip to the store, and would have given TCL an extra star if it was available . Setup = Easy as Pie I hooked it up to my TV using the HDMI eARC port (it was labeled right on the back of the TV). Plugged in the power to the sound bar and the subwoofer, turned everything on, and... that was basically it. The subwoofer synced up automatically—no pairing steps, no headache. I didn’t even have to touch the manual. Within 5 minutes, I was streaming a movie and couldn’t believe how simple and easy it was to set up. Ray Danz Technology is NOT a Gimmick I had never heard of Ray Danz technology before getting the Q65. But before actually using the soundbar, I decided to do my homework. No, Ray Danz tech is not named after a real person, rather it is derived from “Ray” (sound rays, as in the directional soundwaves), and “Danz” is a stylized version of “dance”, implying that sound is being reflected, scattered, and gracefully moved through the room—like a dance of sound rays. The sound bar has this curved design in front, and it’s not just for looks. Well, you can’t actually see it anyway because it is behind the speaker screen, but it physically spreads the sound out so it feels like it’s coming from all around you, not just straight ahead. I was watching Interstellar, and there was this one scene where the sound felt like it was actually moving through the room. And that’s without even having rear speakers! It's not full surround sound like a 7.1.4 system or anything, but for a single bar and sub? The sound field is massive. You’ll feel like the whole front wall of your room is alive with audio. Bass is Tight and Powerful The wireless subwoofer hits hard. It doesn’t rattle the walls unless you crank it, but that’s a good thing—it’s clean and punchy. I’ve got mine tucked just beside the sofa across the room, and it fills the room effortlessly. Watching Top Gun: Maverick, I legit felt the jet engines rumbling under my feet. Easy to Use, Great for TV and Music TCL included different sound modes for movie, TV, music, and even gaming. I switch to “TV Mode” when watching news or dramas because it enhances voices and makes dialogue easier to hear (no more rewinding to catch what someone said). “Movie Mode” widens the sound like crazy, but makes listening to news, etc quite difficult to understand. Bluetooth pairing was seamless too. I played a music app from my phone while I was testing the soundbar and it sounded great. No seriously, for a soundbar, with the right settings, it actually sounds really good. Vocals are clear, not muddled, clear highs and deep rich lows. Smart Stuff That Just Works I didn’t have to install any apps or log into anything weird. Just plug it in, select “HDMI ARC” on the TV, and you’re rolling. Even better, I can control the volume with my TV remote—no juggling remotes back and forth. Final Thoughts If you want a sound bar that’s easy to set up, sounds way bigger than it looks, and brings out the best in movies, games, and music—buy this one! TCL crushed it with the Q65H. No regrets at all. It may not have rear speakers, but the Ray Danz tech gives you such a wide, immersive experience that you honestly don’t miss them unless you’re trying to recreate a full theater setup. For the price? It’s a no-brainer

Overall, I like this sound bar. There's multiple connection methods including eARC, optical, and Bluetooth. It also has HDMI passthrough, which is nice for entertainment centers that have a lot of things hooked up to the TV. It's easy to control, and so far I haven't experienced any lag between the sound bar and subwoofer. The worst experience I've had with this sound system so far has been when using Bluetooth, and honestly I don't even blame TCL for that - I think the device I was using just has Bluetooth lag. More important than the looks or the included wall-mount kit or anything else is the way this thing sounds. Honestly, it's pretty good. I haven't had any issues with hearing voices through this thing, and as for things such as music or sound effects from games, it's sounded really nice. Though, if you're planning on using this for gaming, note that tracking things based on the position of sound is not as good as headphones or a sound system with rear speakers in my experience. However, I can still hear everything - the sound doesn't lose any detail. The feature set of this sound bar feels pretty standard. There's nothing critical missing, but I'm also not noticing anything that I wouldn't expect a sound bar to just have by default. I would have liked it if they included more features - for instance, maybe a visual menu displayed on the connected screen. While the existing menu is objectively *fine*, I just kinda like seeing all the settings laid out more. It helps me make more sense of what's going on with my tech. Nitpicking aside, this is a really solid sound system that has yet to cause me any issues or perform badly. It should fit in most standard-sized home theatres with ease, not be too complicated to set up, and have all of the features that the average person would use. I think it's a really great midrange sound option for a home theatre, and I'd definitely recommend it.

The TCL Q65H delivers impressive audio performance for its price point, offering a significant upgrade from standard TV speakers. The 5.1 channel setup creates a noticeably wider soundstage that enhances both movies and music listening. Dolby Atmos implementation works well, providing decent overhead effects during action sequences, though it's not as pronounced as higher-end systems. The Ray Danz technology does add some spatial depth to the sound, making dialogue clearer and effects more immersive. The wireless subwoofer is a standout feature - it connects seamlessly and delivers solid bass response without overwhelming the mids and highs. Placement flexibility is excellent since there's no need to run cables across the room. Setup was straightforward with multiple connection options including HDMI eARC, optical, and Bluetooth. The remote is intuitive, and the soundbar responds well to TV remote commands once configured. Sound quality is balanced across different content types. Action movies benefit from the dynamic range, while music playback is clear and detailed. At higher volumes, there's minimal distortion, which is impressive for this price range. For the money, the TCL Q65H offers solid value. It's not audiophile-grade, but it provides a substantial improvement over TV audio with features typically found in more expensive systems. A reliable choice for most home theater setups.

TCL has a great value soundbar+sub with the Q65H. I’m not an audiophile by any means, but I absolutely LOVE the bass the subwoofer puts out. I actually had to turn it down one notch for my daughters' shows. Setup was crazy easy with my new TV (2025 model year), I connected it to the eARC port on my TV, and right away my TV disabled the built in speakers and my main remote was controlling the soundbar! The overall sound doesn’t quite feel like a legit 5.1 system with speakers behind you, but it does a very good job at tricking you on some movies/games. The overall ease of use with this soundbar is my favorite part. You can use the remote to change settings, but I love the TCL home app on my phone, which lets me dial in the settings easier than the remote. TCL was even cool enough to include a wall mounting system to tuck it under your wall-mounted TV if needed, but in my setup I already have a stand that I had my old soundbar on that did the trick. I give the ease of use/setup a 9/10 (the remote is a bit clunky, but the app makes up for it) The bass is an easy 10/10 at this cost level The overall sound is an 8/10 TCL has a very good overall soundbar with the Q65H! I recommend it for those who are not audiophiles, who want bigger sound, without spending too much.

The speakers were easy setup using Bluetooth, I did not test with the HDMI cables. After 1 week of using these speakers, I've watched 2 movies, 1 musical, 1 anime, and did some gaming. For the movies, the sound quality was crisp or sharp because voices were clear, and I did not need to turn up the volume. This gave the speakers a true center speaker feeling. Being that it is only a center speaker, the surrounding sound was very good where I would not need left or right speakers. For the musical, even when selecting music setting on the speaker, I think the quality was average. I don’t watch many musicals and so this is not a big deal. As for the anime and gaming, the sound quality on standard or music or movie all sounded the same to me and was good quality. The reason why I gave this speaker 3 stars is because I wished the sub-woofer would have more power by outputting more bass and the volume. I think the sub-woofer was below average. Also, I turned up the volume to 85 versus 65 and I could barely hear a difference in loudness. Overall, if you have a receiver with 5.1 or more speaker setup, the speaker can replace your center speaker, and you can compensate your own subwoofer if needed. The speaker coming with Dolby Atmos is a major plus to media that supports Dolby Atmos.

I had the chance to try out the TCL Q65H Q Class 5.1 Channel Soundbar with Dolby Atmos, and it’s been a huge upgrade from my TCL TV's built-in speakers. Setup was really easy and since my TV was also a TCL, the unified controls worked perfect. Once I fired it up, the difference was night and day. Watching my favorite movies, the dialogue was clear, sound effects had depth, and the Dolby Atmos really gave action scenes that “movie theater” feel. Gaming was just as good, with directional sound making it easier to pick up on in-game audio cues. The wireless subwoofer hit hard during explosions and music drops without overpowering the rest of the audio. This soundbar worked so well, I would think of it as a must have upgrade when buying a TCL or really any tv. Pros • Quick and easy to connect, from out of the box to enjoying movies in under 30 minutes • Clear, rich sound for movies and games • Dolby Atmos adds an immersive surround experience • Wireless subwoofer with great bass impact • Clean design and sleek soundbar

To get straight to the point….I am very pleased with the TCL Q65H soundbar. It has all the features I was looking for without forking out a lot of cash. Dolby Atmos is my current go-to when looking for a soundbar since it is nicely paired with the TV and Netflix. The soundbar does not have up-firing speakers, which I thought was necessary to achieve Atmos audio. Instead, it uses acoustic technology called RAY-DANZ to control the direction of the audio. In layman’s terms and not as an audiophile, everything sounds pretty good to me. Of the few buttons on the remote, one is ‘voice’. I do want to point out that I tested this out on various occasions but honestly didn’t notice a huge difference when characters were speaking. On the plus side, I didn’t have an issue hearing what people were saying when this setting was ‘off’ since the voices came out clearly already. With regards to the subwoofer, at its default, the power is very noticeable especially during action scenes or jump scares. Overall, I am satisfied with the Q65H and would recommend it.

    What a let down

I was so excited to try this sound bar out. I've used various models before, but hadn't yet tried out a 5.1 that didn't require separate satellite speakers so I was expecting a nice upgrade over my 3.1 setup. Sadly, I was disappointed almost immediately. The dialog audio is to put is nicely, awful. It sounds hallow and distant, like it's inside a box 10 feet away from my TV. I have it setup in the same spot all my previous sound bars have been placed, on the tv console about 6" in front of the TV. I tried placing it in other locations just to be rule the placement out and it made no difference. In my opinion, the singular most important aspect of a sound bar, dialog clarity and volume, was easily the worst I've experienced of any sound bar I've used (around six total over the last 15 years). The sound processing features, like EQ or audio modes are very limited compared to other models. While it does have modes like Music, Movies, Sports, etc. and they all do serve different purposes, none of them could fix the let down in the center channel/dialog reproduction. Lacking the ability to fine tune with an EQ is an oversight that most comparable bars include. Bass is just "low/medium/high" and treble is the same. Even at "low" the bass is way too high. I had to set the volume around 23-25 to hear dialog clearly, and at that volume the bass is too much. Some of you might not feel that way, but living in an apartment, I don't want to be "that neighbor" so I try to be courteous and keep the bass enough to be heard but only by me and not the guy three doors over. Even when set to "low" I knew if I kept it up someone was going to complain. It's either night mode 24/7 or unplug the subwoofer, both of which really hinder the dynamic range, might as well just use the TV speakers at that point. I'd give it one star, but admittedly, the app and ease of setup convinced me to at least give it two. The app is easy to get going, and the sonic tuning is a really neat feature. It does make a noticeable difference in the surround sound capabilities once it's setup. Too bad the dialog still sounds like you're listing to it through a box. The power plugs are the same for the sub and bar, no wall worts or power inverters, just easy to run simple clean cables. It's such a shame too, because it has a lot of great feature for the price range. DTS:X and Dolby Atmos aren't easy to find in this price range so I was really looking forward to it. Plus the HDMI in/passthrough supports 4k HDR and VRR. VRR isn't commonly supported in this price range...again such a disappointment it's not good at being a sound bar for all the features it does have. So in short, a feature packed sound bar that's let down by not being great at a sound bar. Such a shame.

Subtle, yet immersive surround. This sound bar sounds great. It's not overwhelming, but you know it's there. We originally had the speakers on the floor, but they proved ineffective. So we purchased some speaker stands for much improvement. It's a little expensive, I think, for what you get, but overall, it's a "sound" investment!
