I bought TI-84 for my 9th grader to work on algebra during her summer break. It's very easy to learn all the graphing features and generic/ advanced calculations, without any help.
It has been in use for 3 to 4 hrs a day and charge lasts for a week or more.

My son loves this calculator and uses it all the time. A little expensive, but great quality!

our local school will rent them at $10/semester, but got on sale for ~$115 @bbuy. Hate that it costs so much, but screen looks great and it is the best yet. no need to dig into manual yet - is fairly intuitive
