Stunning in 2D... and in 3D, WHAT 3D?

This blu-ray provides superior image quality for a superior sequel. The cover states that the picture has been mastered in 4K but given the fact that its then downsampled to fit on a standard 1080p blu ray it sorta defeats the purpose. Its like recording from a DVD to a VHS tape, just because the source material is DVD quality doesnt mean youre gonna get that on a videocassette, its pointless. However, that being said, the detail and level of clarity here is SPECTACULAR. Colors are vibrant and rich. This is definitely a winner. The image is very pleasing to the eye. Same goes for the sound. Id say its reference quality. Theres constant activity all across the sound stage, the rear speakers are utilized to there max potential when appropriate and your subwoofer is gonna get a workout, aggressive LFE bass. This is probably the idel example of a perfect blu ray..... in 2D
Now, in 3D (if it can be called that) its less than stellar. Which is the ONLY reason this didnt get a perfect score of 5 stars. Obviously the sound is the same, excellent, and the picture never really loses any fine detail or textures, except the image does get just a tad darker, but thats to be expected of 3D content. The real problem I have with this 3D presentation is its lack of "pop". Granted, it IS an improvement over its predecessor... But thats not saying much! The first Amazing Spider-Man was actually shot in native 3D and yet there was NOTHING 3D about it except for a few scenes that showed a hint of dimensionality. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was shot in 2D and later post converted to 3D and its STILL better than part 1, but like I said its nothing to get excited about. Overall theres some nice depth throughout the film but very little in terms of pop out effects or a natural-looking sense of space. Its mediocre at best. So if youre gonna watch, Id say 2D is the way to go unless you wanna put on your 3D glasses and get annoyed because your waiting for something to come outta the screen at you and it never happens.
Other than that, this is a great and fun blu ray to have in your collection. Perfect in 2D

This is not your typical mindless superhero flick. It certainly has plenty of great web-slinging action and some cool villains in Electro and the Green Goblin. But it has a heart as well, with the tension between Peter Parker/Spidey (very humorously played by Andrew Garfield) & his love Gwen (played again by the endearing Emma Stone) giving the film emotional weight. I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it, but the fights are awesome and the ending is surprising. Andrew Garfield brings a very human quality to the role, being very serious about his relationship with Gwen and loved ones, yet also delivering a good number of humorous lines. Really well done overall with great effects, surprisingly strong acting & a story filled with unexpected emotional weight for a film of this genre. As for the 4k disc, this is simply a must-own early 4k release, not just for the high quality of the film. A.S. 2 was shot on regular film versus digitally, and this resulting 4k Ultra HD disc with HDR from Sony (long regarded by many video experts as the studio that produces the highest-quality dvd and blu-ray disc transfers available, & I would tend to agree) is visually stunning beyond words. Skin and clothing textures are rendered with unbelievably sharp detail. Flesh tones are true-to-life and the colors (notably the reds and blues in Spidey's suit) are extraordinary vibrant. The HDR encoding (short for High Dynamic Range, meant for super/enhanced UHD or OLED 4k tvs with HDR capability) yields virtually limitless contrast, with super-bright whites and the deepest blacks a television could hope to produce. (So bright you may actually want to lower the backlighting and slightly reduce the contrast just a bit if you watch this in a darkened room). Simply put, this is definite demo-worthy 4k video. As for the sound, If you have an advanced audio system, prepare to be wowed! The 7.1/ Dolby Atmos enabled soundtrack is equally impressive, with room rattling bass and super-immersive use of the surround speakers. TV speakers and even the best sound bar available will not even begin to do this soundtrack justice. (By the way, the only way to get REAL, true surround sound is by not cutting corners and doing it the right way with at least a halfway decent multichannel amp and 5.1 speakers.) All told, both for the stellar content and the flawless video/audio presentation, this disc really delivers the 4k home theater goods.

Sony usually doesn’t disappoint in this area, and this time is no different. The video quality of the Blu-ray is fantastic. It’s crisp, colourful and all around gorgeous. The sound mix is also spot on, really delivering the goods in terms of quality. This is the type of movie you want to experience, and the Blu-ray transfer is definitely the way to do that. Great job here Sony.
Speaking of a great job, this is how extras for blockbusters should be done. We can’t always be treated this kindly, but for those who love to get behind the scenes, then The Amazing Spider-Man 2 really brings it home for you on that front.
I’ll start with the best first:
The Wages of Heroism: Making The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – This feature is broken up into six parts (though you can always choose to Play All) and has a full runtime of 1 hour 45 minutes; which, needless to say, covers a lot of ground. When broken down, that ground is as follows:
Lessons Learned: Development and Direction – The first part runs at 19 minutes in length and talks about the characters in the film, things they learned from the first movie and how they built off the structure that began there. They also touch on the villains in this film, the themes, as well as using the classic suit over the first film’s design, and quite a bit more.
Heart of the City: Shooting in New York – This second part comes in at just under 13 minutes in length and talks about the ups and downs of shooting in New York. It’s just really great stuff to watch that makes you feel like you’re on set at times.
Triple Threat: Attack of the Villains – This piece comes in at 21 minutes in length, and just as it sounds like, it focuses on the film’s villains, the battles throughout the movie, and how certain scenes were put together.
A More Dangerous World: Transforming Goblin and Electro – This fourth part comes in at 10 minutes in length, and focuses mainly on Electro’s make-up and design, as well as Goblin’s design for both his look and his weapons.
Bolt From the Blue: Visual Effects – This part comes in at just under 18 minutes in length and focuses on the huge amount of visual effects found within the blockbuster. Some things are redundant, as it’s hard to not already touch on certain aspects earlier; however, it’s still interesting to see.
Spidey Gets his Groove Back: Music and Editing – This final segment comes in at 25 minutes in length, and focuses on the set design. Just kidding, it’s all about the music and editing! For those interested in post-production, there’s quite a bit of fun stuff to see and learn here.
With that giant feature out of the way, let’s get to the rest of the goodies:
Audio Commentary – The commentary is given by writers Alex Kurtzman and Jeff Pinkner, as well as Producers Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad. They go in-depth on quite a few aspects of the film, the story process, the themes, characters, casting and such, so for those who love commentaries, it’s worth a listen.
Deleted and Alternate Scenes – There are 23 minutes worth of scenes here, and if you’re a fan of seeing what hit the cutting room floor, then be sure to check these out. There are some interesting moments, but overall, they didn’t make the cut for a reason. To find out that reason, be sure to turn on the audio commentary by director Marc Webb!
The Music of Amazing Spider-Man 2 with Director Marc Webb – Here’s an eight minute featurette where Webb talks about what he wanted from Hans Zimmer and the score, and how it all ties into the movie.
And finally, Alicia Key’s music video for It’s On Again.

It was an alright sequel to the first amazing Spider-Man Jamie Fox as electro was great and I guess the only thing I didn’t like was how peter and Gwen’s relationship kept going back and forth.

I really thought this film would be a repeat of Spider-Man 3's problems (too many subplots, mistreatment of characters) but it actually handled everything fairly well.
The plot has an interesting spin on the Parker family which works well for the film and the film does try to keep building the universe by adding more villains to the action. However, unlike in Spider-Man 3, the villains (with the possible exception of Rhino) are given an adequate amount of build up before their grand reveal. The one thing about the plot that irks me is the convenience of ALL of Spider-Man's villains being, essentially, created at Oscorp. I understand that is for the sake of quickly building a universe to rival other studios (and I think that is how most of his villains in the "Ultimate universe" are born) it takes something away from the villains. It also raises the question of how is Oscorp still in business despite the fact it runs a villain assembly line? One more problem I had was that the love story between Peter and Gwen was, at times, drawn out. In certain scenes it goes on much longer then it should, which diluted my attachment to it. I didn't mind the "cheesiness" aspect of their romance because that's how I picture a young Peter Parker to be when dealing with love for the first time.
I personally enjoyed this version of Harry Osborn the most. In most other media, he is usually depicted as a cry baby with a serious father complex. While the father complex is still there somewhat, he is more his own man in this. He follows his own path for better or worse and that is how he should live his life. Also, Jamie Fox took the Electro character in a different direction than he is usually seen and performed quite well.
Andrew Garfield does a good job portraying Peter Parker and Spider-Man once again and Emma Stone does a solid job as Gwen Stacy.
The action (when he fights the villains at least) is exciting to watch and marvel at and the I love the web slinging segments.
If you are a Spider-Man fan (or a comic fan in general) you owe it to yourself to watch this movie. If you aren't you probably will find something to enjoy from this movie. It has good action, an interesting plot and (for the most part) solid acting with Dane Dehaan (Harry Osborn) giving the best performance by far.

It's a good movie way better than Toby. The acting by Jamie Foxx was overboard it was like he thought that it might lead to an Oscar. The digital movie copy was also expired.

I was somewhat mystified as to why Spider-Man had to be re-started back in 2012, but I admit I liked the movie for the fresh enthusiasm Andrew Garfield brought to Peter Parker’s Spidie transformation. I’m not one of those haters who criticized the Tobey Maguire/Kirsten Dunst chemistry, but I have to admit that Garfield and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy have something special. The fact that they are off-screen romantic partners probably helps. In fact, the best scenes in this movie are when they are together. For me the banter and the development of their characters is essential in the story line, especially in the final act. I was also taken with Sally Field as Peter’s Aunt May who finally gives Peter some answers about his parent’s disappearance years ago. In fact we learn about those facts in the excellent opening sequence, shown in flashback. Director Marc Webb, perhaps best known for the fine romantic comedy “(500) Days of Summer,” seems to have a good handle on the many action sequences. The traditional chase sequence follows the flashback and is pretty dumb. This is where we meet one of the 3 villains, Rhino/Aleksei Sytsevich (Paul Giamatti) who is making a run for it in an armored car after stealing some sort of radioactive material. That is followed by villain number 2, Electro/Max Dillon (Jamie Foxx) and finally Green Goblin/Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan). To be sure the film has one too many bad guys that poor Spidie has to deal with. It adds nothing to the current story other than an extra 30 minutes that I could have done without. Action freaks would probably want to slash some of the more intimate moments in the mid-section. Still there is plenty for everybody and provides for a good sequel in this series.

So I saw this for the first time just a few days ago and didn't watch any spoilers (amazingly enough) onine or hear from anyone about the movie. I will say I enjoyed the movie a lot and thought it gave a great introduction to Spidey's "Greatest Battle", as they put it, in the Sinister Six being introduced (sorry if I spoiled it but it was plastered on all the trailers). The action was great and the acting was alright. Although I am not the biggest Andrew Garfield fan, I personally believe he is a way better Spider-Man than Tobey McGuire, so that's always a plus. And I thought Django, I mean Jamie Foxx, was an excellent Electro. The fact that he was based off the Ultimate Electro was also a fresh take rather than the old-school green and yellow costume. I will also say this is my biggest gripe point with the movie (and most superhero movies to be honest) is the fact that they are so easy to kill-off villians. I think this greatly reduces the impact of a villain as they would not be able to come back as a recurring problem for the hero. In any case, I like how they began to also bring in the "Spider-man-versus-multiple-enemies" kind of formula. And I know this is a such a sore point for so many but I think they need to realize that this is the biggest part of being Spider Man that sucks so much is that he is constantly bombarded with 2, 3, 4 enemies all at once and he must take them on alone.
Lastly, I will say I desperately hope they bring in my favorite villain of Spidey: VENOM! And please, please, please for the love of all that holy...DON'T PULL A SPIDER MAN 3 TOPHER GRACE MISTAKE AGAIN! haha...ok that's all for my quick wrap up.
Hope you enjoy the movie!

After a good (if unnecessary) reboot and re-introduction in The Amazing Spider-man, comes The Amazing Spider-man 2. While I don't think that these movies have been as good Sam Raimi's Spiderman and Spiderman 2 overall, I have to commend them for the casting of Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. Garfield captures the smart alec side of Spiderman perfectly and he and Stone have great chemistry. The special effects in these last 2 films also best the previous trilogy, especially the scenes where Spiderman is swinging through the city. Where I think that this set of films comes up short is in the plot and some of the story decisons. This one kind of feels like it was just a set-up for the next movie, as well as the Sinister Six and Venom spin-offs that have been planned. I just wish they would have taken some time to flesh out the villains more, as we will see some of them in future installments. I also wish they would have taken more time to deal with the aftermath of the big emotional event that occurs. It just felt rushed and it didn't feel like they did it enough justice. But overall, it was enjoyable and not nearly as bad as some make it out to be. I hope that for the next sequel, they take their time to address the characters better, as well as the special effects.
