This is movie you really have to pay attention too because if you sneeze you will miss something and not understand what's happening especially when it's based off a Stephen King novel. This movie is a lot more fantasy then I expected with stylized action sequences but the icing on the cake is Matthew McConaughey as a bad guy was pretty cool and unexpected.

Decent Adaption of an Classic Series of Books

The Dark Tower series by Stephen King is a modern classic, but attempting to directly adapt its thousands of pages of text into a single film was basically impossible. Instead the film takes the basic premise and setting of the books and a handful of plot threads and adapts it into a solid if somewhat unremarkable film. You'll definitely get more out of the film if you've read the books, but you'll also likely be disappointed that it doesn't directly pull form the source material. Anyone unfamiliar with the books can still enjoy the movie for some great gunfights and solid performances by the two leads, Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. Though my biggest gripe with the movie is that the film almost demotes as much if not more time to the teenage character Jake played by Tom Taylor. He's not bad in the role, it just seems disappointing that he basically acts the main character and point of view for most of the film instead of Idri's character of Roland.

This was a good transition from a book series to film. It was a good long book series. It probably would've been better served as a mini series or a long movie but for anyone who has read the books might feel a little bit let down by what's missing. It's really a bit of an epic tale and I recommend reading the entire series.

A awesome Sci-Fi movie that has been adapted from Stephen king novel "The Dark Tower Series." It's really the first time I really seen Matthew McConaughey play such a cool evil character, who did did not care about the life's he was taking as long as he was getting what he want. Idris Elba plays the good guy, he made you did a great job but maybe better, but that's just really me. It's a Blue Ray you have to have in your Blue Ray Collection.

Stephen King again creates a universe where good vs evil. The last gunslinger against the man in black. The dark tower is the object that holds the universe together. A young boy from Earth keeps seeing visions of the dark tower. He magically goes where the last gunslinger is and tags along, but is not welcome.

The movie was entertaining. I felt that there was a lot information in this one movie which could have been spread out to at least three movies. Idris and Matthew were good in this film, I recommend it if you have time or you're just into movies. I didn't read the books but I'm sure they probably were better.

What it’s about? A dark tower exists that protects the universe from a demonic apocalypse. The tower can be destroyed by the mind of a child. The Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey) is locked in an eternal struggle with the Last Gunslinger (Idris Elba), as one tries to bring the tower down and the other tries to defend it. One child is caught in the middle of it all. What did I think? I immediately wanted to watch more of The Dark Tower when the credits rolled. Not because it was a stellar movie, but because I felt like there was SO much we didn’t see. Moviemakers saw fit to compress EIGHT Stephen King books into one movie, leaving the intriguing premise feeling rushed and under-explained. This needs to be a TV show so I can binge the crap out of it rather than a movie that piqued my interest but left me dissatisfied.

Stephen King films have had a big resurgence, with the best example being IT. Yet King's most ambitious work, The Dark Tower series, has long eluded adaptation. What seems prime material for a big budget series has instead been shrunk down to a tight fantasy-action film. On those terms, it works pretty well, with a good cast and just the bare bones of the series: The Gunslinger, the boy with visIons of a Dark Tower at the center of different worlds, and The Man in Black who wants to destroy it all. Throw in a bunch of Stephen King Easter eggs, and that's about it. The Blu-Ray looks and sounds excellent, so if you like your apocalyptic face-offs on the light side, give it a spin. There are a few extras where cast, crew, and even King himself enthuse about the film, though you get the sense they all know a better adaptation of the books is still to come.

I really enjoyed the movie. The VFX were great and the actors were pretty good. Idris and Matthew were the scene stealers of course. It wasn't nearly as bad as it was rated and I'm glad that I took a chance and bought it. Looks great on 4K and the soundtrack is really great in the home theater.
