If you are a TRUE FAN of DC, you know all about the historic 'Death of Superman' and the followup 'Reign of the Supermen'. This is the most FAITHFUL rendition of that story "blended" with 'The 52' characters. Ignore the lackluster 'Superman- Doomsday' from a few years back and the HORRID Live Action mishmashes (BvsS)... they actually make me angry as a fan. This ANSWERS the questions that so many of us asked just after the comics. Like "Where was the "A Squad" Justice League?!" No one cared about Booster Gold or freakin' Blue Beetle. NO SPOILERS- this ANSWERS that definitively! And like ALL SUPERHERO movies nowadays... stay through the credits! Had to go with a Special Edition over 4K... and for anyone with a great 4K TV, "normal" bluray upscales beautifully.

great movie, way better than "superman: doomsday" was.

By opting to remake their first DC Animated Universe movie, Warner Bros. Animation acknowledges that Superman: Doomsday wasn't very good. I was pleasantly surprised by The Death of Superman's emotional depth. Casting real-life spouses Jerry O'Connell & Rebecca Romijn to play Clark Kent/Superman & Lois Lane was an inspired choice; their chemistry as a couple is real, palpable, and grounded the story. The Justice League's inclusion in the epic battle with Doomsday hews closer to the original comic than the earlier animated adaptation. Plus, since the story continues early next year in The Reign of Supermen, screenwriter Peter Tomasi team wisely sets up characters who will become major players--an advantage the comics writers didn't have back in 1993.
