This movie is entertaining, from beginning to end. It is visually stimulating, in every sense. The setting and scenery are extremely visceral, not to mention the cleverly written plot, which centers around a younger concierge, who "beds all of his friends," which seems, mostly, to include wealthy, elderly women. When one of his wealthiest conquests passes away, the initial reading of the will reveals the concierge is set to inherit a very valuable painting, to the family's dismay. Later, it is discovered that the deceased was murdered by a family member and thusly, voids the initial will, leaving the concierge to inherit her entire fortune. This results in the concierge being falsely accused of her murder, which leads to his false imprisonment, orchestrated by greedy, family members who wish to inherit the fortune. Fun, fun, funny!!

    An Imaginative Tragicomedy

Leave it to the imagination of Wes Anderson (writer, producer, director) to take viewers on another fantastic journey into the lives of a variety of wacky characters at The Grand Budapest Hotel. The story begins at a Hotel located in the Republic of Zubrowka 1968 then swiftly dates back to circa 1932, where we are introduced to the main characters. 'Gustave H' played by Ralph Fiennes and the talented young actor Tony Revolori as 'Zero'. There are, of course, many familiar faces in this odyssey of greed, love, friendship told with a sense of humor as only one person can deliver. With all the ingredients that are sure to delight The Grand Budapest Hotel might possibly be Mr.Anderson's best film to date.

    A Funky Comedy ... A Fun View

A bit funky and certainly a different format for movies produced today. Its story is told in a streaming flash-back fashion and narrated by Mr. Moustafa [F. Murray Goldman], the films sound-track is “off-beat” and the acting style is matter-of-fact. The story-line is just interesting and a bit flat but it does carry this bit romantic caper comedy to a slightly higher elevation than expected. The story was set in Eastern Europe, circa 1938, which was gallant and opulent time. It tells the story of last concierge, who was very particular about servicing all of his guests needs, of The Grand Budapest Hotel – perhaps it’s also a story of his adventures and misadventures and his budding friendship with his “Lobby Boy.” When you want a comedy that’s light with a different story and a relaxing view then this is the moving-picture to see…

    A Tongue In Cheek Comedy

Grand Budapest Hotel (Nominated for 2015 Best Picture of the Year) Will Not Be A Favorite with everyone but I found it to be delightful and enjoyed it much. I was surprised with the main actor as he usually plays such serious roles and to learn that it is he who put this role across was quite a revelations as I did not recognize him for the entire movie. Loved the movie and now understand why it was so highly regarded. In the 1930s, the Grand Budapest Hotel is a popular European ski resort, presided over by concierge Gustave H. (Ralph Fiennes). Zero, a junior lobby boy, becomes Gustave's friend and protege. Gustave prides himself on providing first-class service to the hotel's guests. When one of Gustave's lovers dies mysteriously, Gustave finds himself the recipient of a priceless painting and the chief suspect in her murder.

First off, I enjoyed this film. It's an odd story, with wacky characters, and in a fictitious place. I'm not going to go into the movie, because it would be just too difficult. But as I said, it does have an odd story that I enjoyed. And I really enjoyed watching the characters in this movie. All the actors were wonderful, and with more cameos and you can take a stick at. The video looks fantastic. I'd like to point out that the aspect ratio changes throughout the film to try to convey when things are. I purchased this without knowing very much about the movie other than some people liked it, some didn't, and because it cost about five bucks. If you liked The Best Marigold Hotel, you may enjoy this one.

    Quaint Spectacular Magic

I've been gently and slowly falling in love with the works of Wes Anderson since I saw his movie, The Life Aquatic. Moonrise Kingdom is my favorite because, as a man, I identify with that awkward coming of age and the magic in the perspective of a boy in his youth. Grand Budapest Hotel is infused with the quaint, spectacular magic that I love about Wes Anderson's Storytelling. DEFINITELY NOT for your average movie fan but, if you like off the path artistry in your storytelling, Anderson's is definitely that in the vein of Jim Jaramusch or maybe even Terry Gilliam, to some degree. Just a lovely, bizarre and delectable piece of storytelling.

The movie is a bit quirky and characters are a bit off center. The movie is told a a flashback from one of the view point of Mr. Moustafa the adult lobby boy. The countries are fictional and it could take place around the beginning of WWI. You will not recognize Tilda Swinton as Madam D. Wiliem Dafoe is extra creepy as is Adrian Brody. When the time periods change so does the screen aspect ratio. You will enjoy this movie. The story revolves around a stolen painting, some very nasty relatives of Madam D., pastries, a prison escape from a very odd prison and a shoot out in the Hotel. Get it and enjoy.

If you have not seen a Wes Anderson movie before, I highly recommend you seek other films. Although this one is becoming one of my favorites. The different aspect ratios are so clever to tell you when he switches time or story lines. The characters and dialog are extremely entertaining the way it is told. Almost like cartoon characters or a comic book feel. The special effects are quirky but it is meant to be this way and it adds to the whole film. Too many actors to mention but they are all great. I had a smile through out the entire film appreciating every frame of this film.

I originally rented the movie after having seen the case in a store &, knowing absolutely nothing about it, I looked it up on imdb.com & watched the trailer - it looked hilarious, different & like it would be good...and it has an amazing cast, so I decided it was worth a shot. It is definitely the Oscar-worthy movie that everyone ended up noticing - my only "downside" is that I did not find it as hilarious as the trailer made me feel it was going to be: yes, it IS funny; but it is not rolling on the floor, non-stop laughter as the trailer implied BUT this does not ruin the movie at all - as my summary states, it is quirky & entertaining, & I did decide to buy the movie
