This is a great movie and series. The HD photograpy is second to none. It was good to see the charactors in the previous movies the same in this movie. I am looking forward to the next movie in this series and would expect it to be just as good if not better than this one.

Another great movie adaptation of the great Tolkien books. Do note that this is a bit of a longer film and the action is not as packed as LOTR, but it is still entertaining and fun to watch. And with any Peter Jackson film, you definitely get your money's worth in extras.

    Very, very good movie

I loved this movie, not as much as any of the LOTR movies, but I still love it. It could have been so much better had the dwarves been created without rubbery looking fat suits and dopey cinamagraphics. Inspite of that, however, the movie is tremendously done.

Finally, they made The Hobbit into a movie

I have been waiting for this movie to be made for quite a while. I'm glad that even though the story was written as one book, it's going to be more than one movie long (even if it will be hard to wait). It was fantastic looking as a movie, they did a wonderful job.

    How it all started

The cinematography was incredible! I loved the song by the dwarves and the story at the beginning of the movie with the dragon and the rift created between the dwarves, humans and elves. I thought the story dragged a bit in the beginning of the movie, but over all liked it. This is just the first part of the story with more to follow for those who don't already know. I really like the 3-D version.

    Fun, longer version

This movie seems to be somewhat polarizing. I enjoyed it and I loved having a longer version. I do wish that the Goblin King scenes weren't extended, but you take the good with the bad I suppose. It is reference quality as far as the picture and audio blu ray.

Nice to revisit this world in Blu-Ray 3D

Peter Jackson sure does know how to make a good looking movie. While the story is not as serious in tone as the LotR stories, it still lends itself well to the film version of this universe. Naturally the audio and video qualities of this Blu-Ray presentation of the film are superior to most. The 3D is well used throughout and really makes this a 'cant miss' for home theater enthusiasts.

My wife is a self described Tolkien Nerd and thoroughly enjoys these films even though they are not 100% "by the book." I also thoroughly enjoy them and we re-watch the sets once or twice a year, scattered out over several weeks.

    Good but not great

This is a good movie but not fantastic. Is it still worthy of buying? Assuredly, yes. I saw this opening day and boy the film needs some editing if anything, just to speed up the pace! The visuals don't disappoint but the pacing stumbles in the beginning but when it finally get's going, hang on because you are in for a treat! A good start, let's see if the sequels deliver.

In this opening movie Bilbo and thirteen dwarfs start on a journey to reclaim the dwarfs home from a dragon named smaug. Along the way we meet characters that will return in the lord of the rings trilogy. We also see Bilbo get the one ring.

    Worth a watch

I put off watching The Hobbit in theaters after reading complaints people had with the movie. Now that it's out on Bluray, I gave it a purchase and definitely enjoyed it. Yes some of the CGI looks out of place, and they use it quite often. However, the movie is still very enjoyable as a Bluray purchase to watch at home. Looking forward to the rest of The Hobbit movies.

    Good but has abrupt ending

I did enjoy the movie but it did seem to end a bit abrupt. I realize that the original source material has been broken up into three parts, so i guess you can give it a break for that, The sound and the picture is stunning on the blu ray . The extras are a little lean, but i imagine that there will probably be an expanded edition in the future. Overall entertaining>

    Great Adaptation

The Hobbit is a prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Directed by Peter Jackson, the Hobbit never disappoints. Great action sequences and special effects dominate. Ian McKellen returning as Gandalf the Grey is a treat. The 3D is amazing.

    Good Start

The Hobbit's first installment is a good start to telling the whole story of the Hobbit. It does get a bit boring at some points, but to actually get anything out of it you need to pay attention as much as possible-- and it really helps to have seen and read the original Lord of the Rings (even if this movie takes place chronologically before!).

It's LotR related, need I say more?? I noticed that quite a bit of the dialogue was taken straight from the book, the quality is awesome, the story is amazing, the actors make it believable... I could go on for days. Highly recommended.

As a Sherlock fan, I was so excited to hear that Watson was playing Bilbo, but as excited as I was to HEAR it, I was ECSTATIC to see it. He was AMAZING! If you love the LOTR trilogy, you have to see this movie.

The Hobbit had great visuals and sound as expected. A few surprises in there and leaves you wanting to see the rest of the story. If you liked the first trilogy - you will be right back to that place again with the Hobbit.
