I saw this movie originally on Imax 3D highfilmrate @48fps. It was crazy lifelike and kinda offputting. The 3D was great at the theater tho. So I tried it at home with this set. Much better! The visuals in 3D are still great but less like Im "on set" and more of a cinematic experience. Recommend for home theater plus now I can fast forward through some of the dull moments.

Not many people are a huge fan of this first Hobbit movie, liking the next two movies much more. But if you liked the extras on the LOTR extended editions, you will love the bonus discs on this set. The drama the actors and crew go through making this film is actually more interesting than the movie itself!

Expected so much more from this literary classic. Disappointed with the additions not from the book.

Another great movie from Peter Jackson on the Tolkien masterpiece. Cinematography and special effects, monsters, etc as awesome as the LOTR trilogy. While all the extra history is great for Tolkien buffs, it's a shame that the producers are milking this book by stretching to three movies. But I'll see (and own) them all!

I was initially skeptically about this movie since I am not an avid Lord of the Rings fan, but you don't have to be in order to like this movie. This movie is wonderful all on its own. Although it does help that I have seen the Lord of hte Rings trilogy because this movie helped to tie pieces of the story line together.

One is never knowing what questions are lurking in the back of one's mind until the sequel is produced and provides answers for unasked questions. Even imaginary tales can teach loyalty, honor, respect, sacrifice and how family and friends should love and treat one another

Love this movie because it vividly explains the story plot leading up to the spectacular Lord of the Rings triology. Also has me looking forward to the next Hobbit movie! Despite some scenes that were dragged out unnecessarily Hobbit was not a dissapointment of the high standards of the Lord of the Ring movies.

"The Hobbit" contains many of the elements that main the LOTR trilogy charming and enduring, such as memorable characters, amazing landscapes, and an epic cinematic feel. The story itself is quite basic and straightforward, but that can be attributed fundamentally to the source material. All in all, I had a very nice time revisiting Peter Jackson's vision of Middle Earth, and as long as you do not take the film too seriously, I believe you will enjoy it as well.

This great film has every hallmark of a great picture- superb special effects, okay plot, and decent actors. Yeah, that twerp who always plays the main hobbit is annoying, but he does good. You should watch this movie every day until you learn every bit of dialogue!!! At's a keeper, especially since I bought it!!!

If you are into the Lord of The Rings saga,then you HAVE to have The Hobbit for all the info you DIDN'T GET when you watched it.Then of course you need the other two;Desolation of Smaug,and Battle of the Five Armys;for even MORE background.You can't go wrong w/blu-ray ANYTHING w/these three!

The Hobbit Unexpected Journey is part one of three in the prequel to the Lord of the Rings. They added a lot of back story and other extras that aren't in the book, but other than that it did stay fairly close to the book compared to other movies. So overall an awesome movie!

I'll keep it short. This is not a movie review, but a product review. The Bluray is gorgeous on an average LG LCD tv. The DVD disc is impressive, as well. The extras disc leaves a little to be desired, content-wise. As a whole, you expect an impressive release with Peter Jackson films, and this set delivers.

If u r into JRR Tolkien's writings, and/or Peter Jackson's interpretation of them, then u will luv this extended version of the orig! W/ 5 DVDs full of material, there is more than enough meat here no matter the level of detail u need/want. There r also a few surprises for u to discover.

I read the Hobbit and the Lord of the rings trilogy at least 5 times growing up. What a fantastic story! I have always thought it would make a epic film experience, but never imagined it would be done so well. My wife and I were both fans of the books and now we have to have all the movies in 3D!

This extended version is not quite the same animal as the LOTR extended versions as there isn't really anything that changes the story. There are some nice additions that enrich the story but nothing significant as the LOTR additional scenes. The bonus features are what makes this edition worthwhile.

I was a big fan of the Hobbit and was very pleased when it came out. It was just an amount of time before the Extended Edition would come out just like they have with the original LOTR trilogy. As a fan of the world of Middle Earth, it was just a necessity to get this and I loved everything about it.

Okay so this is a great movie and everything from the acting to the visual effects will leave you stunned. The only thing that was bad was that some of the "evil" characters were childish, ridiculous, and really just plain weird. After you get past that though I don't have any other complaints.

A wonderful viewing experience for those who would like to go a little deeper into the world of middle earth. Features many added scenes fans of the novel will appreciate. The bonus discs pick up where the the LOTR bonus discs left off. A fine addition to the cinematic adaptation of Middle Earth.

This is the second movie in the Hobbit series, and is better than the first. It's fun to see John Martin and Benedict Cumberbatch in action together, even if Cumberbatch is only voicing an animated character. The elven scenes are magical and the caverns of the dwarfs spooky. It was fun to watch.
