Good first entry to the series

Being that this is one of my favorite books I couldn't wait for the release fo the movies. Now that they are hear I have to say I enjoy them for what they are. It would be difficult to replicate the book due to Tolkiens writing style. I thought the movie was well acted and enjoyable. I also liked the extra scenes in the Extended Edition. The movie can drag a bit, but that's because it's setting everything up for the next two films, similar to the first Lord of the Rings movie. If you enjoyed the LOTR's movies, you will no doubt enjoy this as well.

    Worth The Wait

The Extended Version of the Hobbit is a must have for fans of middle earth. The extended scenes are nice, but the real hero of this set are the EXTREMELY long and detailed making of documentaries. Each one is well over 2 hours long and gives you an extraordinary look inside the making of the film. All of this is of course presented in amazing picture and sound quality.

Good Movie, but not quite LOTR Standards

Although this movie does take more after the childish way of the story being told in the original I was hoping that Peter Jackson was able to make it as intense and great as LOTR series. I think there was too much silliness in this movie and moved much slower than it needed too. The movie could've been done in half the time and done better. But I would still say it's a Good movie and will help complete the entire series. Thank Goodness for Ian McKellan (Gandaf) who for me was the savior of this movie.

Bilbo Baggins, He's Only 3 Feet Tall!

Bilbo (Bilbo) Bilbo Baggins He's only three feet tall Bilbo (Bilbo) Bilbo Baggins The bravest little hobbit of them all Ahem. Anywho. If you're looking for a no extra frills version of The Hobbit for far cheaper than the Bluray editions get this one, especially if your hesitant on whether you may like it or not. The film itself? Its a good decent Hobbit and Dwarf Adventure Film. Compared to the book - its veeery drawn out, but interesting nonetheless.

    Definitive edition of the movie

This is the version to get if you enjoy 3d movies. It also had the normal blu ray, dvd and digital copy so you can enjoy it anywhere you like. The special features are what you expect of a lord of the rings movie. Only reason to not buy this is you want a 3 pack when all movies or out, which will probably have new special features this one doesn't.

    The beginning of the beginning

Peter Jackson is back in Middle Earth despite the beginning where he was set to executive produce and it is as if he never left. His new innovations, the 48fps and the 3D aspect does not detract from the overall visual experience. There does seem to be some filler, the Hobbit book is about 1/8 the size of the LOTR books together, but the added scenes, that were brought together from the appendices and Tolkein's notes, work to bind the movie to the original LOTR trilogy. I cannot wait for the new movie.

    As good as anticipated

I know there were some departures from the book, but overall the storytelling was good. The cinematography was excellent, and the 3D was seamless. Nice extra features. I would have preferred a digital copy instead of the Ultraviolet - why should I register for an additional service to watch a movie I've already bought - but it will do.

I do not normally buy movies, but how can I resist The Hobbit? I saw the cartoon version from the 80's a dozen of times, read the book twice, also read the trilogy and bought those movies. Had to round out the collection of one of my favorite stories of all time.

this movie was by far my favorite Lotr movie to date! my kids loved it and I as a parent felt like the content was ok for their age range of 11-14. even though the movie was long it was not hard to keep their attention. we saw it in theater and still had to buy our own copy because we liked it so much. can't wait for part two!

    Great start to the trilogy

I heard many complain (almost everyone I asked who saw the film) that it doesn't end well...however, that complaint is usually tied to the fact that this movie is the first in a trilogy. You cannot resolve the story in the first part. This is a great film true to Peter Jackson and worthy of the Lord of the Rings mythology.

Wow! Thanks to Best Buy's new price match policy, my wife and I picked this up for an outrageously reach price (they matched Amazon's price of $25.00. We're now very happy owners of 4 COPIES (3D Bluray, Bluray, DVD and Digital Copy) of a great movie which we would have paid more for just seeing it once in the Theatres!

I grew up reading the Hobbit and listening to an audio cassette version on long car trips with my family, so I've always loved the book. I also really liked the LOTR movies when they came out. While I enjoyed this movie quite a bit, it does get stretched thin in a few places as they attempt to fill time to make the movie longer. I guess that's what happens when they decide to take a short book and turn it into 3 movies. Oh well, it's still enjoyable.

    good adaptation of the book

The Hobbit movie transported me back to when I was a child reading the book. Sure there aren't as many pretty elves in The Hobbit as there was in the LOTR movies but I think movie did a good job of adapting the book while also adding scenes that elaborated on the lore of Middle Earth and the LOTR books.

    A Great Fan Movie

An awesome movie and well worth the wait to see. I believe it ranks right up there with The Lord of the Rings trilogy. It might be a bit lengthy for some to sit through, however if you are a fan it goes by very quickly. Worth the time and money, you can't say that about a lot of movies these days.

Was hoping for more from this one

How they fit three books into three movies, and now have to create 3 movies to cover one smaller book makes me think the Director was more interested in ticket sales then in getting this one right the first time. I would rather have watched a 3 hour epic saga that covered all the high points of the book, but left some parts out (like the LOTR movies did) than to suffer through over 6 hours of film that doesn't all need to be shown.

This movie is FREAKING AMAZING!!! I was getting really worried before going to see it because of some negative reviews, but there is nothing to worry about. If you loved the Lord of the Rings movies, especially the extended editions, then you will love The Hobbit too

I did not catch this in the theater and I did not feel like I missed out on much. The picture and sound were great and I could take a break whenever I wanted which was good because it was a long movie. Did feel like we'd been there and done that with the middle earth things.
