Great movie and good 3D

Overall I thought the movie was great but I'm not going to say much about the movie plot since you can find that info anywhere else.
Instead I'll talk about the 3D experience, which was about the same as I expected it to be. If you have seen the other two Hobbit movies its pretty much the same in terms of 3D/video/sound quality. I found that while the Hobbit movies had great 3D the movies were just too long and the glasses and minor ghosting (which is in most movies) started to get a little annoying. It wasn't enough that it would distract you from the movie, because it's pretty engaging, but just keep in mind that it will probably happen to you.
I think I still like The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug better, only because of the plot, but this a great ending to the six film franchise.
Note: If you are a huge Hobbit/Lord of the Rings fan make sure to stick around for the credits to hear a song by Pippin/Billy Boyd. It's a great song and the music video on Youtube is an awesome look back at the cast from all of the movies.
PS: I really hate that these movies do not come with a iTunes digital copy but such is life.

This is the final installment of the Lord of the Rings, Hobbit series. If you are a fan of the movies (and I assume you are if you are reading this) you will not be disappointed. Not only do you get the final installment but you get it in 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD AND a digital copy. It is the reason I purchased it. I can play it anywhere I go...and when I finally up and buy a 3D capable Blu-ray player and large screen TV I will already have a collection of 3D movies to watch right off the bat.
I love the extra's that are packed into these movies also. Behind the scenes stuff is great. You learn how many of the interesting things are accomplished and you see interviews with the director and cast members.

I was so glad they finally decided to put these stories to film. I have NOT been disappointed by any of them. The back stories were expanded in a way that, to me, enhanced the experience over the books. Anyone who enjoys a good story and a good movie should, if they haven't already, should watch them all. I read all of the books long before they decided to make into a movie and I was a little doubtful of how well they could adapt them. By expanding to three films they were able to capture the stories much better than trying to get it all in 2 or 3 hours. You should watch all three in the Hobbit series to really understand the story. You will not be disappointed. I hope you enjoy them as much as I.

J.R.R. Tolkien is one of my favorite authors for many reasons. Peter Jackson and the teams and actors that created the LOTR and Hobbit films did a fantastic job. They are among my favorite movies of all time. The production was great and the characters so very delightful. Jackson's King Kong was fun, and I have not been that impressed with his other works, but the LOTR & Hobbit films display passion and depth and captured many of the key elements that Tolkien originally included (courage, loyalty, faith, a remnant, machine vs. natural, etc) A great film for all ages, but the older and more experienced you are with life, the better you will understand what Tolkien put into his ethos and writing.

I'm a big fan of anything J R Tolkien. The last Hobbit movie was by far my favorite out of this series, jam packed with action and great acting it was a wonderful buy. I do have to admit I'm a sucker for the ending in more ways then one, but I don't want to spoil it for you so I'll forgo the details.
I was impressed with the storytelling, the acting, and the cinematography, I think they spent a lot less time doing scenery shots in this one, which was much appreciated. The special effects were well done, while I wouldn't say its the best picture of 2014, it definitely improved the series and was worth watching more than once.

Another elegant epic that fits right in with the first two chapters. Vast, exciting complications that are not too much for the neophyte to grasp and which probably won't disappoint the die-hard fans of the novels. The cast is still very impressive and believable. The extended versions are now rearing their heads, and i am going to try my best to ignore them. They are already long enough, thank you. But if Peter Jackson supplies commentary as he did in the longer LOTR and KING KONG sets and the extras are as spectacular as those, it'd probably be worth it. The blu ray images are superb, the way through the whole trilogy.

I did not go see this in theaters as with all the others I knew there will be expanded versions on bluray. The R rated version of the movie makes a more visceral impact with the battle scenes really getting quite brutal at times but it is not over the top gore. To be honest I have seen both cuts and this is the one you want. Bluray is awesome 3d version is amazing demo worthy very very strong sense of depth. Sound is amazing very powerful . 2d version is perfect demo worthy stuff as well Have not have time to look at all the extras but it looks to be good news there as well. It worth the cash if you are a fan.

I purchased this for my 18 year old grandson and he loves it.
The 1st salesperson I asked where it was, pointed to the area and said "over there" - At 76 I do not appreciate being treated like that. Like it was no big deal I was in to purchase anything. A young man that was helping another employee put something on a cart took time out to help me. Need more guys like him. It was not even busy in the store. The first salesperson was arranging a display and I guess it was more important then me. I had not been to Best Buy for awhile because of an incident 2 years ago. This did not impress me at all. Thank You

We normally purchase the extended versions when they come out however the extended version was rated R this time and so we opted for the movie edition (PG-13). Our family has enjoyed watching The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies and are excited to add it to our collection. We are disappointed that the final and concluding movie in the series, in the extended version was rated R. We have always enjoyed the more in-depth telling of the story, however the movie version was great!

I should begin by stating that I love Tolkien, and Peter Jackson's rendering of it (mostly), so I'm not exactly unbiased. I also admit to loving LOTR more than The Hobbit (mostly).
That being said, once tge extra and unnecessary (imo) characters are overlooked, I love this series. Martin Freeman astonishes in everything, and he inhabits Bilbo so perfectly that i can't imagine anyone ever replacing him. Likewise with Ian McKellen's Gandalf. The movie belongs to Bilbo and Thorin (Richard Armitage ), heart, soul, everything in between, and is a masterclass in character led storytelling. WATCH THE SERIES.

So I saw The Battle of Five Armies in theaters and thought it was decent, but the Extended Edition takes it to a whole new level. There's some incredible action sequences and a few key story elements where it's really unfortunate that they got left on the cutting room floor because they add so much to the movie and really tie it together. This Extended Edition raises the bar for the entire Hobbit trilogy another notch closer to the rare classic territory of LOTR.

So awesome! I was on the edge of my seat the entire movie. Did not disappoint. And it ended exactly where the Lord of the Rings Trilogy started, so there was no guessing, wondering nor confusion because of a lapse. Don't understand why this didn't get nominated for best cinematography. Wish my nearest theater would have offered it in 3D - would have been magnificent. I am 65. Saw it with my 28 year old granddaughter and 8 year old grandson. We all enjoyed it equally.
