This movie in great leaps and bounds brings the story to life. There are a few points where it strays such as adding Legolas to the story. But it is in fact all in fun and in the hollywood spirit. The acting is top notch and filming and scenery epic like you would expect from Peter Jackson. I am very happy and hope the third installment can keep up the high bar set by the first two of the set.

I ordered online last week during a 4 hour sale. Easy to order and pay for. I picked it up today. The box is a little roughed up, but no apparent damage from the outside. I haven't opened the box so I don't know what shape the fan is in. I assume it's fine, but if not, I know it will be simple to exchange. If there are issues, I'll modify my review.

The action continues for a cast of fantastic actors, that face danger and the threat of death or destruction at every turn. The magic and mystery continues for all of the characters that are affected by the quest and journey to kingdom under the Mountain. The dragon is a magnificent work of art, and his voice is very well done. This installment in the series did not disappoint.

Before the holidays I bought 3 blue ray movies from Best Buy. I compared prices all over the place, but those at Best Buy were the best. I received the items in excellent time and in perfect condition. We watched one of the movies as a family last night and had a great time.The prompt shipping and great prices made a significant contribution to the success of a family-shared event.

The sequel to the Hobbit was even better than the first film and that lets me know that the third film will be just as good or better than the 2nd film. The scenery, costumes and special effects are fantastic and Smaug the dragon is so real that he looks like something that could have really lived in prehistoric times. I am looking forward to seeing the final Hobbit film in December.

As a movie, it is highly entertaining. As a Blu-Ray it is high quality. The movie suffers from being part 2 of 3 of a book that was expanded into a trilogy. That being said, it is great just for the scenes with the titular dragon, Smaug. If you are like me and have every LOTR extended version, then this is a must-buy/must-have item. No collection would be complete without it.

Impeccable video and audio with excellent 3D. The package is loaded with bonus features that I haven't combed through yet but like the other Middle Earth movies, I expect them to be comprehensive and fascinating. Fortunately, this set does come with the 2D disc that has the audio commentary unlike the Best Buy exclusive steelbook of "An Unexpected Journey: Extended Edition".

This movie picks up where Unexpected Journey left off. It adds some new but familiar faces while also continuing to develop the main characters as it sets up the story for completion in the next of the series. As in the first of this series, the movie strays some from the original JRR Tolkien storyline and introduces some unexpected faces, but it all works together pretty well.

Although The Hobbit is often compared to the Lord of the Rings, it is a wonderful and captivating all on it's own. This definitely expands the world of J.R.R. Tolkien on screen and gives insight into what leads up to the LOTR trilogy, even if it is a bit liberal on the part of Peter Jackson. This is a wonderful movie for fantasy fans everywhere and I highly recommend watching it.

If you are a fan of the LOTR and Hobbit movies, I think you will enjoy the extended editions. I wasn't sure if I wanted to try it, but I'm really glad that I did! The key for me was to get it on sale though. I got this for 19.99 and it was sooo worth it. If you like to see how they film things and behind the scenes stuff, then I definitely recommend this!

For anyone who has the "Lord of the Rings" the Hobbit is a must own dvd in building a complete telling of the tale. Mr. Jackson's brillance continues in the Hobbit a standard of excellece he started with the LOTRs! I won't say much more, for fear of sharing details that might spoil your own experience. It was worth the wait to see this movie but did it really have to be so long?

The Desolation of Smaug is an excellent continuation of Peter Jackson's film version of this classic. This film moves along a little more quickly than the first one, and has a lot going on, between their ongoing quest and the introduction to new characters (some who weren't even in the book). The visuals are stunning and the representation of Smaug was fantastic. I look forward to the final installment. The DVD extras are only fair-average, they are mostly production videos. They may only be of interest to people who are hard-core fans of the series, or the whole process of how it's being made.

I'm a huge fan of the LOTR trilogy, so naturally when these movies hit the shelves it was a no brainer they would be added to my collection. They are a bit shorter in length than the LOTR movies, but maybe for some it's preferred. We are talking 3 movies from a single book, so I can understand it being hard to split up accordingly. Great effects and cinematography as usual!

While Two Towers wasn't exactly the best Lord of the Rings, Smaug definitely picked up the pace for our adventurous Bilbo. There was plenty of action, the introduction of the elven companions, and even some pretty cool sorcery battles with Gandalf. The sound is fantastic, effects are great, and this movie was able to tell a lot of story. I can't wait for the final film(s).

Hey, its the Hobbit with a bunch of dwarves, elves, orcs and of course humans! But the real deal is the dragon, one nasty beasty. Like all the Lord of the Rings movies and the continuation of the Hobbit series, this is a continuously entertaining entry in the looooong saga. If you enjoyed Lord of the Rings, then there's no reason that you shouldn't enjoy this entry.

Picking up at the close of the first film, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues chronicling the journey of Bilbo Baggins and co., and it is nothing short of a thrilling ride and cinematic triumph. If you're a fan of the LOTR series and loved the first Hobbit film, then this will not disappoint you. I personally loved it more than the first. I highly recommend it!

I had not seen it since the movie came out so the added scenes were seamless and I could hardly tell where they were which is nice and has always been the case for the LOTR movies. However, when you open your package make sure everything is there. WHen I got home no key and one of the discs was missing. They exchanged but it was a pain to have to go back to do that.

This movie is AMAZING!! I liked the first Hobbit movie but this one was so much better!! The cinematography was excellent and the special effects were sophisticated! Smaug was my favorite part of the film but overall it was really good! If you liked the first hobbit movie than you will enjoy this one! Definitely looking forward to watching the next one one in the series!

I got this movie for 15 dollars at Best Buy. It came with blu ray, dvd, and hd digital and a 3d version disc. I personally love this movie and think its a great buy for any hobbit or lotr fan. I recently saw the last movie of the hobbit trilogy and it made me like this one even more. It's definitely a movie I would rewatch over and over again for years to come :)

3D effect is some of the best available, clarity and depth amaze. Nicely replicates my viewing of the film in Imax 3d. With the eventual release of the extended edition this theatrical cut is a little light on extras, but what is here is well done and won't be replicated on the eventual extended release so I'm happy its included here. Overall a very nice 3D blu package.
