I loved the movie and wanted to watch it at home, was comparing all of the bluray options when I saw this dvd, wide screen, so it takes up all the TV, for only ten bucks. HD is nice but when movies are mostly made on computers these days you can't actually see the difference. But the fifteen bucks I still had in my pocket? That I could see.

    Great Movie

The movie is the second in a trilogy of films depicting the story of The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien. Continuing the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellan) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. This movie is a good middle chapter to the Hobbit story. I love that it mostly sticks to original novel. My only concern was that the movie was much too long for amount of story content.

They continue to do a great job of telling and showing the story. Might be too intense for young children. While I'm sure the big screen viewing of this was terrific, the Blu-ray version is wonderful ... nothing beats being able to pause a long movie for a restroom break and not miss anything - and you don't want to miss a thing in this movie.

    Excellent Extended Edition

I waited for this Extended Edition instead of the normal BluRay, and It was very much worth it. Just the many hours of extra material are worth the price. Then the extended scenes, the majority are very good, and some not much. But if you are a fan of Peter Jackson's Middle Earth movies, you will take anything extra. Highly Recommended.

I understand that a lot of people have issues with the deviations from the book, but I think that if you keep in mind that this adaptation was meant to expand on the story, and that there were some changes that were necessary to have this make sense with the events in LOTR, then I think you'd agree that this movie is pretty spectacular.

The movie was exceptional, and showed an understanding of the book and its plot. Minus a few key details, such as the love triangle that wasnt featured in the book. Besides the small plot change, the movie had an exceptional cinematography, and beautiful scenery. The scenes where as if plucked from the book, and casting was almost to the t.

Great movie with exception picture quality. This set gives you the bluray, dvd, and digitial copy. If you are a fan of the Lord of the Rings series, this set is right up your alley. Only downside is that the inevitable extended edition will be coming out so if you are a super fan, might want to consider waiting instead of double dipping.

Get the 3d one. If you are just looking to add another movie to the pile that's fine, but if you are looking for a cinematic beauty, get the 3d version. It a great value with all the extra's that you get. I transitioned so well from the first one. Even if you didn't get to see this on the big screen it plays well on home theater systems.

Special effects and great acting make this installment of the classic story very exciting. This is a film classic that I resisted watching for a long time because I thought it would be too long and very boring. Well, I was wrong. I've watched all three installments and they are great. Once you start you get hooked.

This blu ray is a beautiful transfer of the movie. The 3D looks good on my Panasonic and the sound is great. The story is better paced than the first and is more action packed, moving our heroes closer to the Lonely mountain and the confrontation with Smaug.. Fans of the books and movie adaptations of JRR Tolkiens works will be pleased.

This is the second installment of Tolkien's Hobbit trilogy. I love action movies and this genre is especially appealing. Jackson, the director, made his mark with the Lord of the Rings trilogy and this is turning out to be every bit as entertaining. I am hard of hearing so I am glad when these come out in DVD so I can get the subtitles.

"Too Little Story Scraped Over Too Much Movie"

(I borrowed that tagline from another review I read, as it is completely apt.) The second movie slows down from the first, as I recall it, despite its action sequences. They are a poor substitute for sufficient story to warrant a 3-hour run time. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the picture, but would have enjoyed it more sans some of the flash. Recommended to fans of Tolkien who are willing to bite their tongues a bit to enjoy what will more than likely be the best adaptation for at least the next 50 years. 3.5* out of 5.

This is an improvement over the last film. At times it seems as though the director/producer is milking the project for all that he can. But this one was more interesting and exciting. There is still too much of the Rube-Goldberg over the top sequences, ie the river rapids action scene. However, at least it was still exciting, whereas the cave sequences in the previous movie just appeared to be set up for the sake of proving that he could do it. One draw back, the molten gold CGI was not good quality and made it less believable

I just got through the director's commentary and it's a must see for fans. It's pretty cool to get their insight during the movie. I love the extra scenes too. They reproduce scenes that were in the book. Overall if you are a LOTR/HOBBIT fan, then you need to get this extended edition right away. There are some BOFA teasers too.

The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug is the second film in a three part series. As with Lord of the Rings The Hobbit is an exceptionally well made movie and worth the watching. If you enjoyed the Lord of the Rings series you will equally relish The Hobbit three part movies and want to purchased them all for your movie library.

Consistent with style and quality from all other films. I was unsure if I would want to follow these films as much after already seeing the original trilogy, but now I think they are better. Really liked the first Hobbit movie and this one and I have already let some family and friends borrow my copy so they could enjoy it as well.

This film looks amazing. The look and the score are the best aspects of this release. The Lord of the Rings films are so much better but its because there were actually 3 books!...Not just 1 book turned into 3 long boring movies. That said, The Hobbit movies still, again, look gorgeous and I would recommend this 3D bluray to anyone.

The movie was fun to watch. I enjoyed the book and was curious how they were going to fill in time on a trilogy when the book is fairly short. The filled it in with flamboyant chase scenes, added characters and story. The barrel ride scene was a bit over the top imho, and seemed out of place. That scene could have been much shorter. Otherwise I enjoyed the movie. Would be cool if after they finished the trilogy they did an edited version of the films that cut the extras and gave us something more closer to the original book.

Peter Jackson (& company) have really brought to life J.R.R. Tolkein's book like I never imagined it could be. This is definitely a movie that can be enjoyed again and again. I know I have. This movie makes me want to visit New Zealand, where the movie was shot!

This movie continues on where the 1st Hobbit movie left off. It has almost non-stop action. It does wander from the book in a few areas but that is understandable due to the need for high end entertainment. Great cinametography, Smaug appears to be real and the fight scenes are always fun. Can't wait for the 3rd movie to come out!
