This movie is fantastic. I feel that it's even better than the first movie. When Smaug appears, there is no need to suspend disbelief. It is as if the dragon is real, and chasing the characters around. The cinematography is beautiful and in line with the other Hobbit movie and LOTR. If you're a fan, this movie is for you.

The Hobbit Movies are not the book, the book has a better story arc that makes more sense. However the movies are epic with nice effects and decent acting. In other words, if you're expecting the books, you'll hate them, on the other hand if you just like well-made, high-quality movies, then you'll like them.

I waited a year for this to come out. It was well worth the wait. I enjoyed the 3d at home on my tv way more then when I saw it in the theaters. I showed my girlfriend and she was amazed. Tons of specials features which are great as well. Can't wait for the 3d extended version of the 3rd Hobbit to come out next year.

The plot is an amazing combination of the widely-known Hobbit tale and the lesser known material from Tolkien's appendices. I wish the extras were a bit more immersive, not to mention more encompassing, but I know that Jackson usually saves the best for the extended editions, which I'd assume will be out later this year.

As a fan of the LOTR movies I had to purchase this as a gift for my wife. We both loved the theatrical AND this extended version of the movie. However, the extras in this package are awesome with great behind the scenes movie making magic and tidbits from nearly all the cast. Well worth adding to your collection!

I thought the second was just as good as the first if not better! Great cast, good story, funny and action packed, it was more than I thought it would be. I was pleasantly surprised at all the humor! I greatly enjoy this trilogy (which I was very skeptical as the book was so short). These movies are among my favorite!

It was a given that this would come home to my movie collection from the day it was announced. I'm happy Peter Jackson was able to not get too bogged down in the middle section of this story, while pulling from deeper Tolkein writings to flush out the storyline connections between "The Hobbit" and "Lord of the Rings".

Theatrical release was too long. They really stretched the material out too much. At home, you can skip scenes and get a much better feel for the way Tolkien intended. The audio on this blu ray is exceptional. 7.1 DTS MA. Much better than the LOTR which was 6.1 DTS ES Matrix.... Video is superb as well. Nice transfer.

As a fan of Tolkien's works it is a bit disappointing for me that Jackson left out so much of the original story, yet still found room for a couple of side story arcs that never existed, and in my opinion, to some degree, takes away from the actual story. Now all that being said, I did enjoy the movie. I thought that the essence of the story was still very much intact. So, tie that in with Jackson's excellent direction of the film some quality acting, great special effects, and you've got a great movie.

Just getting the Blu-ray for these films. I haven't watched any except the first, but the wife now has the entire set. I really wasn't going to get this particular version because generally I won't purchase any Blu-ray without a Digital copy. However, it was on sale and the wife wanted it.

Nice to see where it all began including the finding of the "precious ring". Inspiring story of courage and will against great odds and evil debauchery. Great action scenes abound throughout leaving you waiting in anticipation for what lies around the next corner of adventure and discovery in "The Hobbit Trilogy".

This was the best of the Hobbit trilogy. I've watched and rewatched and then rewatch, again, this movie. I love the dragon; Benedict Cumberbatch did a wonderful job of speaking and moving for the dragon. Martin Freeman is the heart of the movie though. Without him, it would be just another fantasy adventure.

A great addition to the LOTR series of movies. As always, Peter Jackson created a visually stunning masterpiece. Not overly representative of the book (an extra romance was inserted as well as your requisite Hollywood-style imperiled chase scenes), but on the whole this was a very entertaining move to experience.

Loved the film and it is a great middle story line film for continuing Middle Earth's Hobbit! The 3D on the Blu Ray is top notch. This set fell a little short on the Extras / Special Features disc, but what you et is overall very good. Highly recommend to all! Can not wait for the last installment later this year!

It's the Hobbit, sure it's not the animated version and some things were changed but it's an epic story none the less. It picks up where the first one left off and goes on to where Smaug is about to unleash fury. The good news is once this came out, that meant it's only time before it's the 3rd part of the series.

I really enjoy watching all the hobbit Movies including this one . I just wish that if Best Buy starts out sending shipments via UPS it should stay with UPS and not be transferred over to the Post office and delay the shipment more than necessary.

Probably to be repackaged in extended/differently edited editions until our grandchildren's grandchildren are mere dust, this was a fun, often rollicking movie. The uneven pacing, though, didn't quite prepare you for the scenes with just Bilbo and Smaug near the end, which required a bit more attention, as they were terrifically well-written and acted by Freeman and Cumberbatch/guy in electrode suit. A remarkable film in a lot of ways and Jackson always stays true to the spirit of the stories. A-

LOTR...One of my all time favorites. To actually take a step back and see my favorite character, Legolas, and more development of his character was great! Plenty of action in this film as the Orcs are on the rise. Didn't get to see it in the theatre but was able to pick it up on first day it was available here...

I am a Tolkien Fan and loved all of the Lord of the Rings Extended Editions. I am thrilled that The Hobbit is available in The Extended Editions also. I have now purchased The Hobbit There and The Hobbit Desolation of Smaug in extended versions and will get The Battle of the Five Armies when it is released.

Overall a great movie, but weaker than the first installment. A true Hobbit fanatic will most likely have a negative reaction to the movie based on a true translation of the book (too many changes and additions/omissions not in the book). But for the casual fan, it is great. I look forward to the final chapter.
