Any middle earth extended edition is totally worth the purchase, and that includes this one. The extra footage is wonderful, and includes scenes that are directly from the book. Bonus materials once again are legendary, and the Best Buy exclusive replica is completely legit. Well worth the day one purchase

No surprise here. Clearly one of the greatest series of movies ever to grace the screens, The Lord of the Rings series, continues in the extended version of The Hobbit part 2. Sound is spot on, picture is perfect, not much more to say other than I'm very happy with owning this piece of cinema history.

As expected from a Peter Jackson film, the movie is long and the extended version is an additional half hour or so. The special effects were great, but the story kind of lost meaning by being stretched out over 3 movies. This movie (number 2 of 3) is integral but could have been reduced in length by an hour and we would have been okay. Unfortunately, there's no middle ground selection for recommendation. But I enjoyed it enough to recommend to anyone with the several hours to spare.

The Hobbit was Tolkien's book before writing The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy. It was a short little book intended for children and was a wonderful fairy tale type of fantasy. To take three long movies to tell this minimal story seems to be stretching more than a little. That said, the cinematography, the locations and the special effects are amazingly good! The acting is quite good, if a bit "over the top" at times. Overall -- very enjoyable and I will watch and buy the third installment.

This is the second installment of the Hobbits trilogy. More action than the first and stunning visuals. The plot is great as it leads into the Lord of the rings. Only thing is at the end it leaves you wanting to continue despite having watched over three hours. Excited for the third and final installment!!!!

LOVE The Desolation of Smaug: Extended Edition! The extra scenes really helped explain some things and put the movie more in focus. I was able to get the exclusive that came with The Key of Thorin Oakenshield. It's an awesome replica from The Noble Collection! Looking forward to seeing The Five Armies!

The second film of The Hobbit trilogy is just as amazing and exciting as the first. The story continues from where the first film left off with the characters confronting the inevitable beast. The visual effects and the incredible plot made for a fantastic viewing experience. Definitely one for the library!

Absolutely spectacular movie. I love the extended versions of any movie. All these movies by director Peter Jackson have made movie history. I recommend The Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit trilogies to anyone who likes/loves action, adventure & fantasy. Same for the books that these movies are based on.

I love all the lord of the rings film and always get the extended editions. They are really worth it! In fact I wish they had included some of the extra scenes into the theatrical version. The key prop is a nice addition to this set too.

As the original LoTR trilogy progressed the additional material was more and more important to the storyline. I feel this will also prove true in The Hobbit series. Because of this I don't see why anyone would buy the theatrical version when we all know an extended version will eventually be released.

It strays from the book, and embellishes the story left and right. A lot of the story are from notes from Tolkien and was not in the original published book. Tauriel is a welcomed addition to the story. I've enjoyed her story woven into the original tale. Overall the film is beautiful shot with all the visuals and the makes you want the movie to continue instead of waiting for a third movie. It looks great on Bluray. Good to add to your collection until the director's cut comes along.

I appreciated the way the vulnerability of the Dwarfs was described as this quest with Bilbo often stood on a knife's edge. Smaug was impressive and the way all his senses were described made him seem like the perfect hunting machine. The time when Sauron was revealed to Gandalf was dramatic and the threat from him already appeared to be visceral even as a sort of shadow being. Smaug's interaction with Bilbo showed great menace and intelligence. I enjoyed the movie as a whole.

I love the Lord of the Rings movies and now The Hobbit movies....they take you on and adventure and develop the characters along the way....before you know it you love them all....the action is incredible and the set designs are the best in movies today....cant wait for the third and final hobbit movie!!!

If you are a fan of the Lord of the Rings, there is no reason why you should not get this movie. Just seeing the characters come to life and seeing on screen the world that JRR Tolkien imagined is amazing. This is an experience whether at home or in theaters you and your family simply cannot miss out on.

The blue ray 3 D version is great because it comes with the the 3D, the blue ray, a DVD and a digital HD version. This is enough to please everybody. The movie itself is great for those who love this genre. It goes on a little too long and you have to wait for the third installment to finalize the series.

The extended version just has more to love about this movie. It was very well done. I think they did an amazing job of getting the meat of this J.R. Tolkien epic (book) into these two movies. I loved both movies, and I love the extended versions even more.

This second chapter of the Hobbit is more exciting, and more action-packed than the first one! Still following Bilbo Baggins and his dwarf companions on their journey to the Lonely Mountain, we are introduced to Legolas and his pre-LOTR life. The scenes are amazing, beautiful color and fantastic effects!

This second Hobbit film fared better than the first, and in the extended version it is stunning. With a very important 25 minutes added, it fills in some areas that needed to be seen. From the burial of the Witch King to the discovery of Thorin's father, Thrain by Gandalf, this is not to be missed!

As a childhood fan of The Hobbit and LotR, this movie is a must-have. And for those who haven't read the books, give the movies a try anyway. Tolkien revolutionized fantasy fiction in the 20th century. There IS a reason the books (and movies!) are so popular. You owe it to yourself to give them a try.

Lot's of fast action, enough background info to thoroughly enjoy the movie without having seen "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey". The blue ray detail is superb, in spite of several viewings in the theater, I picked up on several new details watching the disc. The extras are succinct and interesting.
