Solid edition, but not as complete as LOTR:EE

I really enjoyed The Hobbit Trilogy, but when compared to the Lord of the Rings Trilogy the movies fall a little flat. The reliance on CGI, when the LOTR movies used more practical effects, is a detriment. The Extended Edition of the first Hobbit movie also falls a little short of the precedent set by the LOTR Extended Editions. The features that do exist are okay, but missing is the disc featuring the feature-length documentary that was present on the LOTR discs.

Overall it's an excellent fun movie to watch. Some parts a little silly and probably meant to keep younger viewers' attention. I'm a fan of the books and the genre. I didn't mind the addition of characters that didn't actually belong in the movie - not in the book, but the romance was a little much.

I have watched the movie 4 times since I bought it and see more in it each time I watch it. The movie moves well and kept me interested and left me wanting to see the last in the trilogy. Hurry it up and I'll sit down and watch all three in order once I get it. I'll have myself a Hobbit marathon day.

Just like LORD OF THE RINGS, Getting better with each new movie. I am hooked on them just like LOTR. Cant wait for the extended edition to come out. That would be only only complaint, I wish the extended edition would come out when the Blu Ray is released, and not have to wait till November for it...

This is the second movie continuing Peter Jackson's version of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. For Tolkien purists this movie might drive you mad but for anyone else who can handle some changes to Tolkien's work will love this movie. It comes with the bluray dvd and digital copy. I am more than pleased.

I'm the guy that owns the first two standard blu-rays and nabbed this and Unexpected journey Extended editions. This is definitely worth the upgrade, the new scenes alone add more life and fillers to the motion picture and the boatloads of content on the special features are just great to watch.

I am a big hobbit and LOTR fan from when I was a teen. The storyline is added to in the movie which ties it in nicely to LOTR movies. The fact that we can watch it however we want to is wonderful and I enjoyed the Specials disc. Our Grandboys, son, daughter-in-law and us all enjoyed it which is rare

This movie was beautiful to watch and the special effects was awesome. The fight scenes were very realistic. my 11 year old saw this and was fine but younger kids might find it a bit scary at times. Beautiful scenes, lots of action, leaves you wanting to see more. a tad bit long but aren't they all?

A great and entertaining film, especially in 3D

Though not as good as the Lord of the Rings, and detaching itself partially from the book it is based on (to an extent of dragging the story out), this 2nd installment in the trilogy packs more action, visuals and excitement than the first. It's not a film that will open your mind or change any perspectives, but if you're in the mood for a fantasy (and you're tired of re-watching Willow and the Lord of the Rings), this one is for you. Especially if you can watch it in 3D.

This was a great followup to The Hobbit. This movie really does the book justice. The story follows the original book. Although I was initially upset at the splitting of the book, I am now happy at the way it has been done. A great movie for a Tolkien fan or even someone who hasn't read the book.

The first Hobbit was great and now with this 2nd journey through middle earth it has maintained the excellent standard of the first. I got the 3D version which is really good on a 3D tv. Can,t wait for the third part. We all thoroughly enjoyed the movie and well worth adding to anyones collection.

This film is spectacularly done, as are all of the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit films. This one, though, is the only trilogy to have the second film be my personal favorite. A great deal of well-done character development, wonderful effects, and a superb dragon make it shine for me. I love it!

I'm not the biggest fan of sci-fi or fantasy type genres, but I've been watching The Hobbit (since i grew up reading it as a kid), and as the casual fan I have to say its really enjoyable so far. The story is really good, the 3d is a lot of fun, the picture and audio was great. My only critique was the ridiculous fake action (the down the river scene comes to mind) and that it was a little bit slow. But it really was enjoyable and a good add to the collection for sure!

Dwarves, elves, mountains of gold, and a fire breathing dragon!? What more do you need to get that adventurous side of all excited! Even if you havent seen any of the other films from the Hobbit or Lord of the Rings this is a great movie and now even better with its additional bonus scenes.

I appreciated the fidelity to the plot in the book, but really liked the license taken to introduce other characters to add clarity and conciseness. I saw this movie in the theater in 3D and it translated very well to my (purchased at Best Buy) Panasonic 3D TV with Panasonic 3D Blue Ray player.

This version is a continuation of the extended versions that Peter Jackson has been producing for Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. There are 2 additional disks containing plenty of extra details about the making of the movie. A good value for the money IF you are into watching the extras.

I didn't see any of these in the theater because I knew I would purchase. Neither of the Hobbit releases has left me disappointed. Love these as much as the LOTR trilogy. My only complaint is they leave you hanging at the end of this one. It will be tough waiting for the final movie to release.

I have now watched this three times each time hoping I missed something, but confirmed with others unlike the theatre version this version is missing Gandalf dangling in a cage at the end. Really wanted the the BR/DVD/DC to have the complete theatrical version of the movie. Still a great movie.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug's extended version is a classic and improved addition to The Hobbit collection. In true Lord of the Rings fashion, the extended version answers a lot of unexplained questions and is a story that deserves to be told. A must buy for all fans of the series.
