The plot is well known from the best selling books. So the few differences that were added to the movie had the effect of being a pleasant surprise to an otherwise predictable film. We all know the story and enjoy seeing it on screen. The additions made it less predictable and more enjoyable.

I've not yet watched the special features, but if they're anything like the LotR extended edition features they will be thorough and entertaining! I actually enjoyed this movie better on my second viewing. I saw it once in theaters and I got kind of bored--which doesn't usually happen to me with these movies. However, when I got the blu-ray home and watched it I liked it much more! I think those extra and extended scenes added to the movie and made it better!

Well, the LOTR movies were awesome, so I don't see why I shouldn't say the same about this one. I saw all three movies at the theatre, but having them at home let's us watch them whenever we want. This new trilogy has sentimental value in our family. I'll watch this movie tirelessly.

Without giving away the story (for those who haven't watched or read the series) the movie is great. I got the 3D blu ray version because I have a 3D TV with not enough 3D movies. Its amazing the 3D does not take you out of the movie and isn't too much. I would recommend if you have a 3D TV.

For those of us that had "The Hobbit" as required reading in school, this is a wonderful realization of the printed word coming to life on the screen. Peter Jackson has created a cinematic classic and presented a blueprint for others to follow when taking on an "in-print" classic tale.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is the entertaining second chapter of the "The Hobbit" trilogy. The acting is all top notch and Peter Jackson does some amazing work as well. On the positive side, the film has a better pace than the first chapter and is overall more entertaining. On the downside, "The Hobbit" could have probably been better told over the course of two films (with longer extended edition cuts coming out later). All and all, a pretty fun film.

This entry in the Hobbit was an improvement over the last. I still enjoyed the first movie but felt some scenes definitely dragged. The pacing was much better in this movie and barrel sequence was the best action sequence of the movie. The Blu Ray transfer looks stunning. Worth picking up.

It is a continuation of the first movie that features beautiful scenery, great characters, special effects, plot twists, action scenes, and a compelling story. The special features include Blogs showing the progress during the movie production, allowing the viewer to enjoy the experience.

Originally, I was against the idea of adding characters into the movie but I am now okay with it, as it was tastefully done. What I am not happy with is that the storyline was changed for Bard of Laketown. In the book, he was the Captain of the Guard but in Jackson's rendition, he is now a boatman. Also, not happy that there was not more focus on Beorn. Lastly, making three movies from this small book is nothing more than a money grab - we fans deserve better!!

I have the read the books and watched every film up to date and the movie is every bit as good as the book. Love it. Got tickets first showing and got the Blue-ray the day it came out. If you haven't seen it get the first part along with second part if you don't already have it like I do.

Overall I enjoyed this chapter of the Hobbit series the most so far. While all of the movies are great, there was a big departure in fil style during the action sequences than we are used to seeing from Jackson. I love especially, the river barrel scene, one of his better accomplishments!

The second installment in the Hobbit series. Much like the Lord of the Rings this one builds much on the first Hobbit movie. The action continues and the imagery is stunning. These movies just keep getting better. Highly recommended if you enjoy the Lord of the Rings or Hobbit already.

Although it deviates even further from the book than An Unexpected Journey did, it was even better than the first movie. Though the bonus features did not come with deleted scenes, which was a major disappointment, it did come with some other cool features, like behind the scenes videos.

The only down side is that being the middle 1/3 of a story it feels unfinished, but it was really well done and a treat to look at! I rated the extras high because there was no N/A option and I don't have anything against them, but I don't watch extras, so don't hold me to that rating.

Not much to say about the movie itself, as with the first one in this series, it is just as good or better. As for this DVD, the 3-D BluRay, I can honestly say I cannot be more pleased. The 3-D is excellent and the extended version is one I always wait for. I would highly recommend!

I actually have really enjoyed what Peter Jackson has done, from the first inception of the Extended Edition you really get excited for the second version of the DVD to be released. You will not be diss appointed with this movie. Stop reading this and go out and get yourself a copy.

This Extended Edition of the Hobbit Desolation of Smaug is great! It has over 10 hours of behind the scenes special features, half of which are about the making of the movie and is extremely in depth and extremely enjoyable. The added scenes in the movie are also a great addition.

After traveling so far the Dwarves and Bilbo have finally arrived to the mountain where the dragon Smaug slumbers. They are in search of the Arkenstone which is the pinnacle of the treasure. What happens when you wake the dragon? The title of the movie should give this away!

The best of the Hobbit series yet. Has the best digital effects & 3-D picture. As the first film in the series it has great actors & the same with new charactors. Would definitely recommend to anyone who likes or loves the lord of the ring series. This has met & surpassed expectations.

What Hobbit could possibly disappoint?! They're all so great - each one just gets better and better. Watching in 3-D is just icing on the cake. They absolutely capture me, and I feel let down and dejected when the film's over. I wouldn't miss having a Hobbit film in my collection!
