Great movie. The 3D looked great. I have spent quite a bit of money upgrading my home theater system and lately I enjoy watching movies at home rather than at the theater. I enjoyed the movie a lot at the theater but thought it looked just as great on my home system.

The Desolation of Smaug was a decent movie, but didn't have the impact of either the first or the final movie in the series. It served as a bridge between the two parts, but just didn't have the same punch as the others. Still, it was enjoyable, just not great.

I bought this DVD in order to run my new LG OLED (3D) television through it's paces. This movie looks awesome in 3D and gave my new television a real workout! I'm not really a Hobbit fan though.

It was better than the first movie. It kept me interested through out the movie. I cannot wait for the third part in December. All of the movies are way too short. If Peter Jackson can make a movie, or two , or 23 hundred, from the Silmarillion, it would be awesome!

In the second of three installments of the Hobbit, director Peter Jackson produces another visual masterpiece as he brings to life the great literary work from JRR Tolkien. Fast paced and exciting, The Desolation of Smaug is a must watch film for the whole family.

This movie picks up right where the first one ends and it does not stop! You forget that it is ugh a long film but the story is so great along with the cinematography that you will lose track of time! A must have for those that loved The Lord of the Rings trilogy!

My family is Lord of the Rings fans and we have been extremely excited that the prequels do not disappoint. The dwarf's barrel ride down the river is too funny. Biggest plus...Smaug is quite dastardly which is enhanced by the voice acting by Benedict Cumberbatch.

Tolkien's story is masterfully represented in this outing. The acting is superb, and the cinematography is breathtaking. The vision of Smaug flying towards Laketown at the end is chilling. Mr. Jackson, please don't make us wait until Christmas for the final part!

I own all the lord of the rings extended blu Rays along with the first hobbit extended blu Ray. This purchase was a no brainer for me. And it doesn't dissappont. A great addition with over 9 hours of bonus features there's no going wrong with this great film.

An awesome continuation to one of my all time favorite stories. I love everything they have done for this film. The visuals are stunning, the casting is outstanding, and the story is riveting. The only problem is having to wait for the third movie to be released!

Out of all of the Peter Jackson directed Tolkien films, this was my least favorite. Although entertaining, it wasn't as gripping as all of the other movies in the series; it seems as something was missing from the film. Still worth viewing at least once though.

Sets up for the final film b-e-a-u-tifully! While the film only encompasses a handful of chapters out of Tolkien's book, Peter Jackson keeps you on the edge of your seat. Try the film in 3D if you really want to be thrilled! Giant spiders and dragons included.

This movie veers away quite a bit from the book. In addition to the extra Tolkien material, Jackson adds his own. The movie is wonderful and is easily the best Fantasy movie available behind LOTR. The cliff hanger is well done and the special effects are superb.

Whether you love the new trilogy or not this is a great movie. The first one seemed really slow to take off, but this one has quite a bit of action and all the extended scenes really build upon the story line. The extended edition is the one to get.

The second installment is just as good as the first. If you like the Lord of the Rings (especially the extended version), then I highly recommend watching this series. Peter Jackson has done just as good as a job with this film series as Lord of the Rings.

While others might also want 3-d, there's a version for that, but I find that way of watching movies to get old after ten minutes. And this is not a short film. The added scenes improve upon what I view as the worst of the Hobbit trilogy.

Imagine being in 2nd grade and seeing the Hobbit as an animated film with all the singing and great animation. It was great. Now I have shown my daughter(in second grade) she is going to have to wait a little to see the new series since it is a bit more rough.

This blu ray has fantastic picture quality. The movie itself is very good. This second instalment of the Hobbit trilogy is a great set up to the third Hobbit movie coming out this December. The extended footage helps open up the movie and expand the story.
