    As a movie, this is really good. As a rendition of the book, it is horrible. To me , "The Hobbit" is a light-hearted, adventurous fairy tale. This movie turns it into a dark, blood 'n' guts spectacle. The plot from the book is barely recognizable. Events are changed too much from the book and the changes are not improvements - far from it. The events with Beorn were a complete disappointment. The extra stuff with Azog and with the elves were unnecessary and a distraction. Lake Town was overdone, again with events that were not in the book. And the dwarves entering the mountain and confronting Smaug - again, not in the book and not an enjoyable extra. I would have liked it a lot more if they would have just followed the book as written.
