This movie is great. If you are a sci-fi/fantasy fan you will absolutely love it. There are LOTR references, a few 4th wall breaks and also having the 7th Doctor, Sylvester McCoy to have a guest appearance is totally worth the money to watch and own this film.

I thought this movie was a little drawn out, but other than that it was a great sequel to The Hobbit and the other Lord of the Rings movies. I'm a sucker for sci-fi and similar movies, so I always hope for the story line to move ahead with yet another sequel.

If you are a fan of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the first Hobbit movie, you can not go wrong with this movie. Peter Jackson the director has done an amazing job with this series so far. Can't wait for the last installment of the series. Highly recommend.

Given that Peter Jackson always eventually turns out his director's extended edition, with enough additions to make the theatrical release instantly obsolete to an Tolkien-phile, who would you not get the best version? All the bells and whistles are here.

I never read the Hobbit book, so I don't have a bias toward the Hobbit movies. The movie has a great plot, great animation, and is well done. The actors are great and the movie is not too scary for kids. Great movie and I would own all the Hobbit movies.

This movie is the current star of my small but growing 3D collection. After watching this movie in 3D, it has sparked my interest to buy future blue ray movies in 3D. Great special effects and story. Can't go wrong if you are a Peter King LOR and Hobbit fan.

    Another Excellent Peter Jackson Movie

This was another winner from Peter Jackson. Although they had to expand the plot from a very short book, they did a great job of filling in the gaps in the story. Best Buy had it for a great price, especially considering it had 3D, BluRay, and DVD in one set.

Great movie for what it covered.

The part they covered was great, as to be expected with the material they were working with. But their blatant financial motive of cutting out a short part of the end so they can add a whole third movie is crazy and makes the end of this movie disappointing.

Read the books in the late '70's, still have an original paperback box set edition. I have all the LOTR movies, all the animated films, and now the first two Hobbit movies. All of them have been fantastic and for the most part hold pretty close to the books!

A great continuation of the Hobbit story. Lots of lore and fun. Even the addition of Legolas was ok. I didn't like the elf/dwarf romantic angle however. Elves and Dwarves hate each other and I felt like it was shoehorned into the movie and takes away from the remarkable relationship built between Gimli and Legolas. Still a fun and enjoyable movie and Smaug looked amazing. Can't wait for an Extended Edition if this!

Peter Jackson continues to deliver on all things Tolkien. Though not completely true to the book, this is a fine adaptation of The Hobbit. My only complaint would be I can't get a Blu-ray in a 48FPS version. Can't wait for the final chapter of this trilogy.

I bought this movie because I am a big fan of the Hobbit movies. I was looking forward to watch this movie because of how the 1st movie ended. I was like how were they going to survive the dragon? I can't wait to buy the last one.

It's a great movie. Lots of action and interesting characters. Continues the story of an unexpected journey. Fun fact Martin freeman (Bilbo Baggins) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Voice of Smaug and Necromancer) are the main characters in the Sherlock tv series.

I love how they added in the other short background stories of the necromancer, the wraiths being let out of their tombs and the background of Mirkwood. These are things that were not in The Hobbit. The wood elves were played perfectly as vain and arrogant.

When I first saw this movie in the theaters, it was awesome. Definitely something that I knew that once it came out on blu ray, I was going to but to add to my home movie library. I'm very much looking forward to the next and last installment to the trilogy

The Desolation of Smaug was a much improved film from the preceding Hobbit:Journey. As the original lagged a bit through the first half, SMAUG jumps into action from the get-go and never lets up. Great 3D (Natively Shot) and worthy sequel in the LOTR saga.

The movie is the second part of the Hobbit trilogy. Great acting, along with breath taking cinematography. The CGI effects blended skillfully with the live action. I also watched it in 3D, and the effect added, rather than detracted to the overall viewing.

The DVD was easily located in the store, new movies in the front. The Hobbit ventures continue in an excellently told story. All of the characters are well played and the addition of an evil talking dragon (Smaug) is thrilling. Can't wait for the next DVD.
