A lot of potential for this to be a great movie, however totally overblown. Unfortunately, does not capture the scale of the previous 2 Hobbit movies, or the LOTR films.

This is a great movie. It definitely did the books justice. However the case was broken when I received it.

It's good... better than part one, but I'm still angry that WB is bringing out this version INSTEAD of the Extended version we all know will be coming out shortly. Save your money.

Unfortunately, this product is misrepresented- there isn't a digital download included with this purchase. Great movie of course.

Honestly, I was bored. The movie moves too slow. I guess that's what happens when they get greedy and try to turn a one-movie story into three movies.

If you are a LOTR fan then you will like it. Found movie to be a bit slow but hopefully the buildup to the final movie was worth it.

Should be called "A Legolas Tale" as he shoots an arrow through just about every one! Don't even need Bilbo or the dwarves.

Decent movie, but I still have a hard time getting past the fact that most of this isn't in the book.

Seems like with each new movie the focus is less on story development and more on special effects.

A digital code was not included with this movie as described on the product listing. BestBuy support said that it was on the actual cover of the DVD case, which it is not.

I was so excited about this movie, especially since I preordered it, but when I picked it up and got home with it, the case was broken and the discs scratched! I am not happy about this and when I returned it I was told they had no more in stock! Not happy with best buy right now...

this whole genre is ridiculous, there is absolutely no point to it. I can't stand movies that have no base in reality and they way too much money and the special effects are disapointing.

My advice, just read the book. The hobbit movies do not do justice to the story. But it looks great on bluray.

Middle earth like you've never seen it before. The voice of the dragon was done absolutely amazing by Benedict Cumberbatch. We get to hear more of the Orc language and Elves language. Everything was beautifully done. I cannot wait for the final movie "there and back again" Love the book, love the movies! Well done Peter Jackson!

Nearly perfect set for a good-but-not-perfect film

I have to make this rather minute point right away: They did something particularly right with this release the theatrical edition didn't. On the disc split with the 3D version, they put it at the RIGHT SPOT in the extended edition; the theatrical edition had it cut off very suddenly. That said, on to the main review. Yes, I'm a Tolkien fan, and yes, I believe the stretching to three movies was a bit BOLD. Anyway, having now seen the third (and theatrically it's good, but I'm waiting for the EE on that one big time), I can say the second in my opinion is the best, and the EE of this one really fleshed it out more. Once again, it's still bold how the book is being stretched out, but speaking as a Tolkien fan, I like getting all the Middle Earth I can get. Anyway, the 3D presentation is suberb. There are plenty of moments where you're sucked in without too many gimmicky moments. The shining moments are when Smaug himself is on screen. The audio still doesn't disappoint - and why would it? The extras are right on par with the other extended editions. Regardless of the varying opinions of the movies, there's no denying the extent of how deep they go into the making of the Middle Earth movies. You're going to need some serious caffeine and free time to get through all this! Bottom line, if you liked the movie, you'll probably want this set. I suppose you needed another general, valid reason to get it. ***BTW, Best Buy, if you're reading this, last year there was a 3D only edition of Unexpected Journey. I'm wondering why you didn't get one this year?
