The extended/new scenes are great. Some of these scenes are somewhat in the book. I love watching behind the scenes footage because it helps to understand what Peter Jackson's vision is.

Fabulous blu-ray that really delivers! The Desolation of Smaug starts off a little slowly, but if you are a fan of the Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings trilogy, this is right up your alley.

$22.99 for a Blu-ray on release day! Our family LOVES the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies, and this was no exception. It's a great movie, pick it up. We can't wait for next installment.

The extended edition for DoS is jammed pack of special features that should keep you busy for a while, which is why I love these so much on top of the added content to the actual movie.

Very well made movie, the cinematography is amazing! Smaug is an awesome villain and this second installment ties the story together nicely. Can't wait to see the 3rd movie of this series.

Was able to get The Hobbit trilogy in 3D for as much you would pay for one at regular retail so was a very good deal. Too bad the extended edition's weren't on sale

This movie is perfect for those who are dedicated fans of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. This particular film is my personal favorite in The Hobbit trilogy.

I love lord of the rings and this is just another great movie in a long line of great movies. It has funny parts and lots of fighting but of course the ending leaves you wanting more.

If you have seen the first Hobbit movie, you have to see this! It just keeps getting better. I'm not sure this trilogy is as good as the first (so far) but its working up to be darn close.

The second part is much better than the first since there is no need to spend time with the background of the movie. Right from the beginning it jumps into action. I can't wait for part 3.

This is a great movie. I'm a big fan of the LOTR and Hobbit series. I love that the DVD comes with so many copies especially the digital copies so I can watch it on many devices anywhere!

Very entertaining movie. Lots of action and great animation and cinematography. I'm still amazed how they turn a 300 page book into multiple movies over 3 hours long each, but they don't deviate too much other than lots of action scenes. If you love the Lord Of The Rings movies, you'll love the The Hobbit series.

The extended edition is always worth the extra wait. Plus it provided a great refresher before part 3 was released in theaters. Peter Jackson continues to bring Middle Earth to life.

I am a big fan of the Hobbit movies so this was well received. This movie had a lot of action and the cinematopography is awesome. I would love to visit the place this movie was shot at.

I bought this not only for the extended scenes, but for all of the behind scenes featurettes. The ones involving Lee Pace make it so worth it. I really recommend this for Hobbit fans.

I admit that I'm not a huge Rings follower or even a Hobbit follower, but this movie was very good and had great 3D effects. I'm still on the edge of the couch for the third installment!

A great movie, very well done. Love how they are incorporating the necromancer! However a couple liberties taken are bothersome, but hopefully will be hashed out in the final installment.
