Bought this movie not yet seeing any of the other ones and this is one of the best visual and audio movies around. If you have a home theater this movie will test it.

I like to purchase movies at Best Buy because in the first week their prices are great and the best part is that they matched it with Walmart so it came out $3 less!!

The hobbit was an excellent movie, I grew watching the original and read the book a lot. I did not see it in theaters because I like waiting till it comes out on DVD.

This is a very good continuation of the storyline. It has good action sequences and is a good setup for the 3rd movie. If your a LOTR's fan you will enjoy this movie.

... but it ain't all that bad, either. The second installment of Peter Jackson's rather bloated adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkein's memorable "The Hobbit" does exactly what the middle chapter of an good epic does: it takes the characters you've grown to love in part one, sends them to hell and gives them no chance of escape, setting up part 3 perfectly. However, the film, even to someone who has admittedly not read Prof. Tolkein's masterpiece, feels bloated, with bits of silliness and overly-long scenes galore. I did not see the standard, theatrical version of "Smaug," nor will I, probably. Honestly, I purchased this Extended Edition for the rich, encompassing behind-the-scenes documentaries That's not to say the film is unwatchable... just a bit overwritten.

If you were a fan of LOTR, you should like this as well. In my opinion, just as fun as the first one and even with liberties taken with story, it is still well done.

The first in the trilogy was could but this movie topped it in every way. Faster moving, great effects and leaves you ready for the final installment of the trilogy.

The movie was just as good as any of the other movies from Lord of the Rings! It kept us on the edge of our seats and we can't wait until the final movie comes out!

Excellent film, great price! 3 discs for a low price, can't beat it. Blu ray is truly the way to go and the digital copy is so convenient for any on the go purposes.

The movie is a great movie, getting it shipped to the home was super easy and convenient, also if your a fan this movie tells a lot about the first lord of the rings

This is an excellent 2nd prequel to the Hobbit. The story line is the same high quality as the other movies in this series. Watching the movie in 3D is just amazing.

Added this to our library to enjoy Hobbits and dwarfs. Great film especially with the extended cut. The key enclosed was very good quality as well. A nice bonus.

Like the other Peter Jackson renditions of Tolkein, this is visually stunning and exciting. I find the addition of a romance pandering, but overall a great film.

I have everyone of the Extended editions for the series of movies. All are excellent. I just wish they wouldn't wait months after the initial release of the dvd.

It's always worth it to wait for the extended version of the Hobbit or Lord of the Rings versions. Not as many extra features as was on the LOTR versions though.

I was so pleased that these movies ended up as good or better than Lord of the Rings. The cast was superb and the behind-the-scenes guys did a wonderful job.

I am a great fan of Tolkien's book The Hobbit. And that is why I'm not a great fan of this movie. The departures the movie takes from the book are too many, too great, and simply not in the spirit of Tolkien. The added love story between a dwarf and an elf is simply ludicrous. And extending this story across three separate films is a blatantly commercial act designed to soak as many dollars out of this franchise as possible. It's a shame, because there is otherwise some fine acting and great cinematography and effects in this film. If you've never read the book, perhaps you can appreciate this film more than I did. But for those of us who have spent countless hours immersed in Tolkien's adventure story, be prepared for some plot and character modifications that will baffle you.

Did not view the middle movie for the Hobbit as a must have. The price at the store got me to complete the set for the first three books with Bilbo. Thanks

This was a great DVD to own. A nice refresher before the next movie came out. This second movie was the one with all the action, cant go wrong owning this one.

The movie over all is a success. I enjoyed the vivid color and detail that showed through the movie. Even though the movie is a continuation, it kept me interested. I watch on the average of about 10 movies a week, and this would have to be at the top of the list. Its a good watch.
