Hadn't seen the movie but enjoyed part 1 so we purchased this to get the trilogy for the family. .

As a stand-alone cinematic experience, it is fun and exciting. Unfortunately, if you are a Tolkien purist, it will disappoint. I just had to go into it with this in mind, and it was a good movie on its own merits.
