Did not know what to expect with this movie. Not familiar with the Childrens classic this is from. Very different movie, hard to follow what was happening or why at least for us. Let's just say, not in a hurry to watch this one again.

While this film does have some spectacular visuals, it felt as if the director didnt move the film along at the right pace. At time the film seemed flat. Jack Black gives another solid performance, but it kinda disappointed....

If your young ones are fans of Goosebumps and maybe Harry Potter then this is a good movie choice which has suspense, mystery, and a little gothic imagery with a lot of family fun. The cast is top notch and as far as I know there isn't any grape juice commercial kids in it so the younger folks also do a great job. Don't expect a uber complicated plot as this one is easy enough for kids to follow along and yes my wife and I in our 40's still enjoyed watching it as well.

Overall, an enjoyable movie - especially for school aged kids. A few "scary" scenes but nothing nightmarish. Typical Jack Black movie with his signature attitude. Cate Blanchett give a good performance as well.

This film had a general feeling similar to Goosebumps, though I found the latter to be much more entertaining. That being said, I did find the film to have its moments and a reasonably entertaining watch.

Appears to be created following the same style of universe as Harry Potter. This is certainly no J.K. Rowling title and likely would not meet the high standards set by her original Harry Potter series.

I went into this movie wanting to really enjoy it. It was cute but they didn't do enough character development, the pacing was off, and it wasn't scary at all. Still entertaining, but a rental at best.

My kids liked this movie, but felt it was geared more toward those kids in the 8-14 age range. It was entertaining, but not one that held their interest to want to watch again.

This movie will feel as if it is an extended Goosebumps episode.... which is not a bad thing. Kids will like it for a single watching... doubtful they will watch repeatedly.

Definitely something different, story-wise, in today’s pandemic of same-old, same-old Marvel movies. Unlike Peter Parker, the protagonists learns magic by reading and he-s just a kid. Result is some gaping pot holes, especially during the climax, but it’s entertaining, especially since the movie’s look and cinematography are A grade (reason for four star). Entertaining and worth a look-see, especially for the eye candy.
