hard to understand what is real plot here until well in to film Glad I did not see it in a theater. Actor needs to go back to 'school of Rock' type movies.

This one was a bit strange for me. I guess you have to be in the right mind set for this one. Definitely more for the kids. Special effects were on point.

Kind of a forgettable movie. Some movies are better the 2nd time. I had such high expectations. I think it will be better next time around.

The movie is perfect movie for a family movie that is funny and will be quick favorite movie this is it. If your also a Jack Black fan you would love how funny he is in this movie. This movie has adventure, magic, and fun filled movie I wouldn't think twice about watching this movie or a movie to own and watch many times you won't make a mistake with this movie.

Nothing special. I was hoping for more. I like Jack Black a lot and I'm a huge fan, but this was not the best film, not his fault though.

Entertaining movie... Jack Black & Cate Blanchett did their thing well. Not the movie of the century, but still enjoyed watching.

Pretty good movie- was a lot of fun through most of it, but the ending was a bit anticlimactic. Also, a bit too creepy for younger kids.

This movie did not do well in the theaters, but after watching the film I understand, it is much more suited to the small screen.

Good family movie. Jack Black is always good it the family movies, but this my not be one for the children under 6 years of age.

I saw the previews for this movie and thought that it would be worth a shot so I bought it. Well, it wasn't that great. It is not one of those movies that I will drag out on a rainy day. If you have young ones of school age they might get a kick out of it. If the youngsters are pretty young it might be a little too scary for them. I'll probably never watch it again so you can have my copy.

I wanted to buy this as it was written by Eric Kripke of "Supernatural'' TV show fame.. I found it boring and uneventful.

I expected more from the movie. It was decent, but I should have just rented it. Not one I will watch multiple times.

The Blu-ray provided an excellent picture & sound. This movie captured my attention right from the git go and held it for the entire movie. The movie kept getting better and better as I watched it. I have not been a Jack Black fan but he does a great job in this movie. I watch movies just to be entertained and this movie does that in spades. Buy it and watch it and you will be glad you did.

Was hoping for a bit more, but nonetheless it was somewhat entertaining for the family to watch over the holidays

If you like Jack Black. And, you are a fan of Kyle McLachlan. Then you are in for a surprise with this movie. If you like magic and mystery then this movie is definitely for you. With an awesome story and a good cast of characters this movie is an homerun.

The film has a good cast and an interesting concept. But doesn't really know what to do with it.

A pretty decent kids movie. I would caution parents though, it kids kind of dark in the third act.

Eli Roth directing a kid's movie was a surprise. The movie is actually, but I'm used to darker.

Thoroughly enjoyed the setting of a magical living house and whimsical story. Convincing CG effects added a sense of realism to the story. Only uncomfortable and unfunny detractor was depiction of a child appearing to strike 2 child bullies unconscious. The "revenge" would have been humourous had the 2 bullies just been embarrassed, not knocked unconscious.

Very slow moving pacing. Jokes were a little flat. Not Jack Blacks best effort.
