A reasonably faithful rendition of Hollywd history

I have read several books about the enigma machine and the intelligence (ultra) that came from solving it. This is the closest to that history I've seen Hollywood come. It's much better than that U-boat movie where the plot revolved around capturing the sub and the enigma machine on it. It was the settings that were important. The machine had been commercially available well before the war.

Among all of the big screen, special effect, and remake movies, it is refreshing when something unique comes along. This is a movie based on real events that entwine history with a bit of humor as it follows the invention of a code breaking machine. Acting is great as it carries the story forward. Hard to beat a movie that shows you what goes on behind the curtain of government missions.

It is very interesting to watch the story of the giant in computer science as a human who is not at all perfect by any stretch of imagination. Perhaps, that is how a great man is created in the process. It is also a good movie from artistic point of view. You can feel the characters as if they are the people you might know. It is the dvd that is worth to keep in your personal library.

I saw this in the movies. I could not wait for it to come out on DVD. Although it is not historically accurate it was highly entertaining. Here I thought the computer was built in the 1960's by some IBM geek. Turns out that Alan Turing had the idea in the 1940's. Pretty amazing. After you watch this go to Youtube and watch anything on "enigma" to get the historically accurate side.

Excellently crafted from beginning to end. This story shows how society can uplift and yet throw people to the ground, due to personal beliefs and habits, regardless of one's contributions to society's well-being. A movie that will leave you thinking and touch your heart .... as a true story shows how far we have came and yet still have to go. A must SEE, if you enjoy history.

Fascinating View of World War II Code Breakers

Intriguing behind the scenes look at Alan Turing and the work to counteract the German Enigma machines used to code [read izaN backwards] correspondence in World War II. Benedict Cumberbatch provides a fascinating portrayal of super intellect, Alan Turing. Keira Knightley injects a practical (and pretty) dimension as Turing's project partner, and close acquaintance.

I love this movie so much, I saw it in the theater two times! Not only is Benedict Cumberbatch at the top of his game, but everyone else puts in stellar performances. It is a travesty that someone like Alan Turing, who helped save millions of lives and also "invented" the computer, had to suffer for just being himself. Too bad this movie didn't win more awards.

This is a great movie with a great cast laying out one of the longest held government secrets of any nation in the world. So interesting and amazing to learn what was really going on during WW II but yet quite sad to see what things had to happen and the aftermath. If you love history and knowing, watch this. You won't regret it.

Everyone should see this film. It is a part of our history during WWII. I always watch history on WWII,and I knew about the Enigma machine and I knew that they had broken it. But i do not recall anyone saying who broke it. This is new to me. after I watched it , I was shocked at the treatment of Alan Turing. Sad. What repayment for helping win the war.

I thought I knew the story behind Enigma, but how wrong was I . You soon find yourself rooting for Alan Turing, even though he has such an awkward personality. Through all his defeats he prevails to complete his machine that saved thousands of lives during WW II. Great story , opening up facts that were hide for 50 years. I will watch it many times.

Having a vague idea of the WWII effort to crack the German Enigma machine, I figured this would be interesting, but it surpassed my expectations. As a math geek, I found it fascinating to follow the story of what it took to crack it. The performances are stellar, and Cumberbatch was excellent! The movie is so well done, it's just fun to watch!

Imitation Game is a great World War II period piece that explores the social mores of that time. I would describe the plot but it seems Best Buy finds it unacceptable to actually describe the characters in the film. If Best Buy is so sensitive it makes me wonder why they even offer the movie for sale. Get this great film and see for yourself.

I have the book that was written some time ago that the movie was based upon, as well as have seen the movie in the theatre. Seeing it again at home on the dvd brings forth the intimacy of how genius can get lost in the history of mankind's editing of how a genius gets a scarlet letter and is thereby scarred and discarded. Watch this and learn.

This is a well written and acted period piece about the key figure who broke the *German World War II Bad guys (cause you can't use the term n a z i 's appearently)* secret code. The central figure, Touring, essentially is the father of the modern computer! The film is well crafted and certainly with adding to the library.

I was eager to see this movie when I first heard of it and it did not disappoint. The story telling was fascinating. What they had Alan Turing go through as the story goes on makes you cringe. He was a complicated man who helped alot of people and in turn his life was filled with tragedy. Great movie overall with a great cast.

Loved this movie. They do a really great job depicting the amazing contributions of Alan Turing to WWII and modern computer science. Unfortunately, they do gloss over his homosexuality and mistreatment at the hands of the British government. They acknowledge it, but don't focus on it to the degree I think they should have.

Just when you thought you new it all, along comes a movie that fills in details about people that remained hidden for years and yet sacrificed so much for freedom. What a shame to have been damned at such a young age when he could have contributed so much more with such a forward thinking mind...don't miss this one!

This 2014 movie is a biopic thriller loosely based on cryptanalyst, Alan Turing, a brilliant, gay, British mathematician, played by Malcolm Cumberbatch, who during World War II cracked the Enigma Code, thereby stopping the German war machine. I liked the movie so much, I bought it for a friend.

A true story that evolved into a book that evolved into a movie. Great cast great acting and a brilliant script. A most see movie that explains much of the how are society often punishes people for their individuality and uniqueness while at the same time asks them to contribute to the well being of our society.
