I was originally drawn to this movie because of the actors and the connection to King Arthur. As a fan of Arthurian legend, I have continuously been disappointed by recent movies' ways of retelling the legend. However, I thoroughly enjoy watching the Last Legion again and again! As a rather low-budget film, I was not expecting anything near the quality and intellectual impact of this film. The special effects are very believable, even better than some blockbusters made only a few years ago. The battle sequences are intense, one reminiscent of the Battle of Helm's Deep from Lord of the Rings. The locations are beautiful, capturing the foggy mystique of Britain and the splendorous majesty of Italy's Ancient Rome. The all-star cast brings dynamic and emotion to the story where it lacked in budget. Thomas Sangster, a fairly young actor, does a fantastic job playing the 12 year old newly-crowned emperor and effectively captures the mixture between the child and the Caesar. Patrick Doyle, best known for HP:GOF, Sense and Sensibility, and Secondhand Lions, creates a spectacular score utilizing especially the trumpet for both dramatic and haunting melodies. The ending of the movie is satisfying both emotionally and visually. I recommend this movie for anyone who enjoys a well rounded movie that satisfies both the heart and head. In fact, the only thing that could be improved on in this movie is that is could have been twice as long!

This movie is average at best & thats being kind because I love period piece movies but this one should have been made for TV because with a script that looks like they were writing it as they went along & obviously a VERY limited budget, dont get this movie. So those wanting to see a good Excalibur movie go back a few years & get Clive Owens "KING ARTHUR" or Sean Connery in "First Knight"
