As one of the most moving movies I've seen in quite some time, The Last Samurai was one I was DYING to own on Bluray- DVD just wouldn't do! At first, I could only ever find it on HD-DVD (R.I.P.), which was driving me nuts! Much to my relief, Warner Bros. FINALLY decided to release it on Bluray (now let's get busy with Batman Begins!!)! My girlfriend got this for me for Christmas and then made me wait almost a month before we got to watch it but the wait was worth it! I had already seen it in theaters so I knew the story, but getting to see it again and take in all of its beautiful scenery in high-def was like a whole new experience. As one who doesn't normally care much for Tom Cruise, I remember thinking that was going to be the downfall of the movie. If nothing else, I can say this- The Last Samurai made me like Tom Cruise again! His performance was nothing short of top-knotch from beginning to end! From his introduction as a druken Civil War veteran to his rise as a noble Samurai warrior, Cruise shows a level of passion that fits the role like none other! The Last Samurai is a movie I cannot say enough good things about and one that I believe everyone should have in their collection!

The last samurai is one of my favorite movies. Im pretty sure many would agree with me there. The performances in this film are spectacular and it has a very entertaining story. Unfortunately, this blu-ray does not do the film justice. It's just a good blu-ray when it really could have been great. The way this movie was shot was just beautiful and the blu ray does not take advantage of it very well. I felt like this was just a slight improvement over the dvd release. The audio fares a little better but still misses opportunities especially during the battle sequences. For example, when cannons fire it isn't powerful at all. Fortunately, there are a ton of really good extras on the disc. They are interesting to watch if you want to know more about how the movie was made. If you are looking to get the last samurai this is definitely the version to get. It just doesn't fully take advantage of the power of blu-ray.

This story is one of my all-time favorites. I am a fan of Japanese History/Culture when it comes to the Samurai. This movie gives a look at the lives of Samurai warriors at their prime and has given me a high respect for their ways. The story, acting, and plot of the movie are all top notch as Tom Cruise and Ken Watanabe portray their roles with a great respect to the way of the samurai. I would highly recommend that anyone who hasn't seen this movie to pick up a copy and be prepared to be amazed. (especially on Blu-Ray disc)

Edward Zwick is back with an emotional action film that has it all. The Last Samurai is a great epic movie allowing the user to search his/her own heart for the true honor of the story. Tom Cruise is great in the lead, but most scenes are stolen by new-comer Ken Watanabe. If you like action movies with a purpose, this one is for you. Director's commentary is also very informative.

This is a very good film... feeling a bit long at times and sadly hollywood-ized it is still a very good movie. It was very meticulously researched and even then came up with some misleading information. Even so, the story is good.... the acting is superb.... the fight scenes are realistic and not overly stylized. This is, and probably will be Tom Cruises best work on film.

The are many people who don't liek Tom Cruise. I myself am indifferent. I am not; however, indifferent about this movie. It is the best movie invloving samurai made since Kurosawa stopped making them. Teh Cinamatography is beautiful and the fight sceens are awe inspiring. BluRay just makes it more beautiful and vivid. Wonderful movie.

If you have never seen this film in blu ray then you must get this DVD. Tom's best performance, excellent cast, director, wardrobe etc... If you are a history buff, then you will find some of the things in this film to be in-accurate but overall a great way to view history of the period

This movie has to be one of my favorite movies of all time. I never get tired of watching this movie. Not sure why it didn't do better in the theaters but it is definitely worth owning on DVD!

I don't really like Tom Cruise, but this movie is amazing. The sets are great. The story is awesome. The costume designer is fantastic. All of this really makes up for the main actor being Tom Cruise.

This movie is pure greatness on all points with the set shots, the plot, the acting, just everything. Even though its a bit long, but it doesn't flow as another long movie that should have been cut down.

This film is amazing, perhaps one of the best performance by Tom Cruise. This film depicts the history of Japan, and people's traditional lives and the end of samurai era.

This one of my favorate Tom Cruise movie! much better then all the movie that came after this. it a great movie! learn history, how Japanese westernised from old Samurai world.

Great movie, awesome story, amazing scapes, worth every penny at $9.99. If you have Brave heart, Last of the Mohican's, Gladiator, then this is a must have.

I watched this movie 3 times in the theaters so once I saw it coming to bluray, I had to buy it. Its a wonderful movie with a good transfer of video and audio on bluray.
