Cheesy 80's sci-fi at it's best. Love the blu-ray/dvd/digital combo packs at a low price.

Great movie on a better format, might not be appropriate for those over 90.

This is a great older movie that deserves it's place in the Blu-ray format.

The first movie ever to use CGI! For that reason alone it's a classic!

Great start to this movie that is hard viewing for a modern audience. Unless the viewer can pass on the dated cgi then it may put them off.

This is one of my all-time favorites! The Last Starfighter is a great sci-fi adventure in the best tradition of Flash Gordon! The story follows Alex Rogan, a young man who dreams of making a better life for himself. One night, he beats the record on the 'Starfighter' arcade game and later finds out this was a recruiting tool used by the fast talking Centauri. Centauri whisks Alex away and he becomes a Starfighter embroiled in an alien war, one that could strike Earth! This was one of the first movies to use CGI visual effects, a new technology in the mid-80s. The laptop you are using right now actually has more power than the super computers used to make this movie. I remember being amazed at the visual effects when I saw this movie in theaters and the visuals still look pretty cool, the Hi-Def tranfer gives all the visual effects scenes a clear and crisp look, everything is very sharply defined. This is the best 'The Last Starfighter' has ever looked! The make-up effects are all well done. All the aliens look real and make sense in this movie's world. The Rylans look great and so do the Ko-Dans. My favortie alein was Grig. I would have liked some more new extras on the Blu-Ray. Maybe some tech specs on the Gunstars and the Starcar or some character profiles. The Blu-Ray could have even had the 'Starfighter' game as a bonus feature for PS3 owners like myself. I always wanted to play that game (I remember looking for it in arcades)! For outer space fun and adventure, you can't go wrong with The Last Starfighter! A classic movie in a brilliant Hi-Def transfer. Essential for any sci-fi fan's Blu-Ray collection!

Fantastic movie ! The special effects are rendered by the Cray Supercomputer One of the first CGI generated effects. A feel good movie ! Enjoy !

I didn't make it to the theater to see this movie but after owning it I really enjoyed it. I have it on VHS and was ok with that for a while till I saw it was available on Blu and UV(UltraViolet#. I'm tying to build my UV collection and saw this as an opportunity and took it. It has drastic improvements over the VHS version. Widescreen is a plus all the way. The picture itself is stunning. The sound is 5.1 surround#which the VHS version lacks). I haven't looked at the extras yet because my PS3 took a dive and I'm trying to decide if I am gonna get another one or just get a Blu-Ray player.

    A Classic 80's HBO Movie

If you look up and watch the movie preview (trailer) on Youtube, it's funny because they condense the entire movie down into a 90 second movie preview. Alex Rogan lives in a trailer park. He plays video games. He is not smart enough to get into college. His favorite game is the Last Starfighter. One night he beats the game. Then an alien pulls up in a spacship car and takes him to a planet called Rylos. There he becomes the best starfighter pilot ever. In the end, he gets the girl and saves the world. If you just read my review, I spoiled everything for you.

    Adequate Transfer/Features for Entertaining Film

Hot off the heels of computer-generated effects advanced by the Star Wars saga, "The Last Starfighter" upped the ante on effects, which helped masked a less-than-stellar script. It's simple, but clumsy -- but the acting is very down-to-earth and the effects (though dated) still impress. The score also adds to the excitement. Slow at times, including the first half of the film, which may struggle to keep younger viewers involved; but rewards with action-packed second half and satisfying finale. The Blu-Ray transfer is nothing stellar, though a clear upgrade from prior DVD issues; and the features are somewhat lackluster for an anniversary edition.

    The Perfect HI-DEF MOVIE Experience

A whole new retrospective of effects and script. Great cast put together with a b-rated script can produce so much more. This transfer of the movie to blu-ray was just an awsome experience like watching it for the first time again. =)
