If you don't have blue ray version be sure to get the extended edition it's worth it. Even when extras are in DVD format. Sound on all three movies seems better than the DVD format discs.

This is undoubtedly one of the few movies I can watch over and over again throughout my lifetime. I owned the movies when they first came out years ago but since it's located in a different state, I can't access it due to the covid quarantine-so I purchased this box set. The extended edition delivers many more epic scenes to satisfy your LOTR cravings- whether its watching Sam & Frodo suffer, Aragorn & Legolas being badasses, or just general breathtaking views of New Zealand, this movie is worth your time. No issues with performance either. I am not disappointed that I now own two copies either. Money well spent to abate my quarantine boredom.

The Lotd of the Rings trilogy in my opinion has become a movie classic for any movie collection! Great action and adventure. And for those who read the books, the Extended edition is for you!

I had this trilogy on DVD and upgraded to the Extended Version Blu-ray to save space on my movie shelf. These three movies tell an amazing story with excellent acting, great makeup and costuming, special effects that still hold up to today's standards and above all, the script is fantastic. For those who love the world of high fantasy, I recommend this set for it will keep you immersed in a realm of beauty, action, friendship and above all else, adventure. The special features take you behind the scenes and tell you how this world was taken from the pages of the books and brought to life on the silver screen, which is just as amazing as the movies themselves.

I found this to be a great box set for fans of Peter Jackson's vision of the Lord of the Rings - the bluray transfer looks good and it contains the extended editions of all three movies as well as a ton of extra features. I do wish the theatrical versions were included as well so that my "collection" would be complete, but as it stands I am very pleased with this set. I also found the audio to be loud and clear enough, though I don't have a high-end 7.1 setup or anything like that so I can't appreciate the full aural experience. At the price I paid for this (on sale) I am more than pleased!

If you are interested in how they made these films, where they filmed it, and the actors/characters, then you will find the extended editions to be fully worth the extra money. But of course, be smart and find a sale! Anyway, the extended editions give you so much good stuff...extra footage that had to be cut from the original release, background into the process of making these films, etc. And when I say that there is extra footage that had to be cut, I don't mean that it was junk material that wasn't worth it. They couldn't include every little detail because they were already long! Some of the extra footage made me understand even more about the story because I actually hadn't read the books first.

We had a marathon of the 2 Hobbit movies as an intro to The Lord Of The Rings trilogy during Xmas. I already own all the extended versions on DVD and found them very satisfying. The Bluray versions are excellent in video and audio. I noticed some color differences and detail is enhanced a little. We watched some of the Extras discs and am amazed at the CGI used to make the movies. WOW ! We will watch these over again and again. I wish the studios would release the extended version simultaneously with the theatrical versions but we all know profit is the driving force. I will buy both versions because I like them so much. We don't go to the theaters and can't wait for The Hobbit Battle Of The 5 Armies. Oh well. Enjoy ! When will the 4K versions be available? Ha Ha.

Hadn't watched these in quite some time, and going back is like discovering a treasure. These movies take their time to tell the story, but even the character parts push it along. These are like the old epics and well worth your time. This set, however, makes it all the more worthwhile. 15 discs and about anything you can imagine as far as extras. If you're a film buff, you can;t pass this up and the upgrade it picture for the movies themselves is fantastic. One of the best collections simply for everything included i.e. extras let alone the great movies.

The recent Hobbit movies lit my fire to re-view these now classic tales directed by Peter Jackson. His love of the source material shines through and though film-making technology may have improved since, the LOR trilogy holds up well. It's a must have for the Tolkien enthusiast, and the quality of the BluRay presentation outshines the original DVD by light years (RIP Spock). Deleted scenes are integrated into the story in chronological sequence so it's the closest thing to the filmmakers original vision available. Can't wait for the companion Hobbit Trilogy! It was also a steal at half-price on Best Buy.com and I simply picked it up at the local store - piece o'cake and hours of viewing entertainment!
