Not as Magnificent as the Original, But...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I admit that I am a purist and went into this remake with a skepticism born of my fondness for the original "Seven," which film buffs know was an Americanization of the classic Japanese epic "The Seven Samurai." For me, the cast of the "Seven," circa 1960, is from top to bottom superior to the remake, featuring, as it does, Yul Bryner, Steve McQueen, James Coburn, Robert Vaughan, Eli Wallach, et al), all at the height of their star power. This remake/reboot does offer Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt, among others, in a story that is similar in scope but different in details, so it is interesting and involving in its own way, offering pleasures of its own making. I'd save "Magnificent" for the original and call this one "The Mighty Fine Seven" and leave it at that.

An OK remake of the original.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Maybe I'm spoiled having grown up in the 60's, but all of the newer Westerns including this one seems to be over dramatized. The stunt crew playing the parts of people getting shot certainly earned their pay. The sound track was excellent.

The remake even better than the original
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a wonderful remake of the original movie done in the 1960's...but with a view point that includes characters representing the various ethnic backgrounds that were living out west around the 1880's. The script also "fixed" a hole that was a part of the storyline in the original movie...it gave the main character a hidden motivation for why he would risk getting involved in recruiting his gang to rescue the town in the first place. Great plot twist and costuming, amazing stunts and they used real explosions to depict the battle over control of the town by the bad guys.

Awesome Movie! Great Acting!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this movie on a whim because I wanted to watch a new title in 4k on my 4k tv. Definitely impressed with this movie. I first expected it to be a comedy but it really is not. A few funny parts, but overal it is a serious film. Excellent cast, and excellent acting! If you like movies like Tombstone, 3:10 to Yuma, American Outlaws or other cowboy action movies, you will definitely enjoy this. The 4K and HDR look great! This film had many moments of great cinematography and this format really highlights them. Play this film on a 4K HDR tv, with some surround sound, and you are sure to have a great experience

Fuqua Does It Again
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Though a western, The Magnificent Seven remake feels very much like and action-packed a la Fuqua film. Fast-paced, likable characters on one hand and hard to love on the other populate the world he recreates, and M7 is not the exception. The seven are easy to like, the antihero easy to vilify, and the woman who sets the retaliation in motion is innocent yet assertive and filled with the right kind of anger. Righteousness is pursued, but vengeance will do just as fine. If you like Denzel or Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke or Fuqua, westerns or remakes, etc. you get abundant reasons not to miss this film. Besides, you can see side to side Indian, black, Mexican, Korean, mountain, and white men working together, what a dream scenario!!

Dazzling Denzel
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My compliments to the Director and Producer for breathing new life into a re-take on what I considered a classic and magnificent western movie. Wow, what a performance by Denzel Washington and the other six of the Magnificent Seven cast. Great action with a twist of humanity which almost in a real life sense, provides some hope that people will sacrifice leg and limb for the good of mankind! Great movie, well made without an over abundance of special effects. Will definitely be one in the top of my favorites and certainly will be watching this again soon! Was a great deal for a 4K movie at Best Buy.

Great Film
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was shot on film and it has a very good 4K transfer. The plot is the same as the OG and while it does not surpass it in anyway the director achieves a great over all film. It's a remake of a remake so dont expect too much. I did enjoy the entire cast and I felt it was a bit too short and things could've been more developed between the characters. Antone Faqua is a cool filmmaker. He has a great style and executed this one well. Mr Faqua made sure the look was right and the 4K transition was great. There are many 4K films out there at that look horrible. This is not one of them... Pick it up today!

A good remake of a classic!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm old enough to have seen the original Magnificent Seven during its initial release in my boyhood's local theater. This new Magnificent Seven shows tribute to that movie, most noticeably in the music. A familiar but more diverse bunch of gunmen with no purpose take on a small army of bad guys in defense of peaceful townsfolk. You know they're gonna win, and you know some of them will die. The fun is watching it play out, again in a similar but different fashion to the original. Its good stuff! The cast is perhaps not quite to the standards of the 1960 film, but after all there's several legends in that group, and you won't notice while you watch. They all do good work. I'm happy to own this Magnificent Seven!

Magnificent.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Knowing the basic plot is not what drives this story. As Denzel Washington is recruited to help the towns people find anybody to stop the evil robber baron, he then begins the process of finding/recruiting allies himself. That is where it got to be a lot of fun. I thought that Chris Pratt and Vincent D'Onofrio stole much of the show. The story builds and builds until the final showdown between the 7 and the towns people verses the hoards of hired guns sent in to make them pay. The fighting was almost exhausting. but still fun to watch, as our heroes worked their 'magic'. A much watch for me.

After you see watch this, watch the original
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased "The Magnificent Seven [includes Digital Copy] [blu-ray]" because I saw the original when it came out. I wanted to see how Hollywood would recreate or re-imagine the original story. The original was much better and true to it's genre. It seems that the new version has tried to make the original story about something else and brings in a lot of current text and symbolism that reflects current day America and not a story of a Mexican village. With that said, the next generation of the movie is entertaining. Besides, if you saw the original, who wants to see a direct remake of it. It was interesting to see the differences between the two.

It was fun.
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The film does some things really well and other things not so well. Fortunately for me the done well parts exceeded the not done so well parts. I thought the special effects were great with the correct shading of blood for example which splatters freely around throughout the film, and the many many stuntmen falling realistically to gun shots, arrow attacks and explosions all the while the action cinematography portrays the combat in exciting and varied perspectives. In fact the overall production oozes high quality thusly a high budget film. Things started going wrong when I noticed everyone was just too well dressed and fashionable without a tear or dusty bottom to be seen and the bounty hunters wore the exact same clothes but with different colors to mix it up. There was zero true grit to be had and it seems the realism factor was omitted from consideration prior to shooting which kind of insinuates the type or audience they were looking for; bloody thirst maniacs who play video games. A cynic would say it's a 90 minute advert for the video Red Dead Redemption 2, of which I've played a lot of and think the script writers there would've done a better job with the Magnificent 7. The casting is hit and miss too but by golly Denzel Washington has charisma to burn. The characters worked as well as they could with such a threadbare, clichéd and stilted script. This film could've been a classic with a few more talented writers and a 1 hour more longing running time. Adios pilgrims.

Movie and Steelbook packaging was Great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I enjoy collecting the Exclusives slip covers & Steelbooks on movies and Series I enjoy. It is a shame that HBO decided not to continue with the L.E. Sigil Packaging with a great series like Game of Thrones and decided to save a few dollars and drop Sigil Slip Covers after 5 years. This is a cheap shot to all collectors and all though HBO might save a few dollars they will loose a lot of dollars in the long run because I for one will never buy or spend money for Exclusive covers from HBO knowing they will sell out collectors to save a buck.

Very enjoyable/Liked the 4K
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This blu/4K is a loosely based re-make of the Magnificent Seven classic 60's film which in turn was based on Akira Kurosawa's 1956 masterpiece "Seven Samurai". The new Magnificent Seven has great bones and frankly I liked it for it's humor, action and great modern cast. The 4K version is a worthy format to view this western epic film. The color saturation and HDR effects were most in evidence during exterior landscape views and especially in action scenes in the last half of the movie. I highly recommend seeing the movie in 4K.

Updated Version
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I loved the original Magnificent Seven with Yul Brenner. This version has Denzel Washington playing the head gunslinger. He plays it straight and cool. The villains are brutal and hateful and you find yourself feeling sympathy for the good guys because they bring life into their characters, and you hate to see them killed. The battle scenes are innovative and realistic. Plus they go into a better detail about why these men decide to fight including our main gunslinger. The reasons are more believable that in the original. Recommended

Good Remake of a Classic Western
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Considering this is remake of a western of the same name; it was a pretty good movie. The main noticeable feature of the movie was that in this version, the setting of the film was of a small Western town. The setting of the original film was of a small Mexican village. The odds of the first film were much more believable as well. There were still only seven "heroes", but a smaller group of Mexican bandits. The remake had the seven "heroes", but seemed to have an never ending supply of villains. If you haven't seen the original "Magnificent Seven", I recommend the remake for a good film. Slightly unbelievable, but good.

Exellent Film
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was an excellent movie, especially for a remake of an old classic which is very hard to do! The story is well written in a way that brings even more personal interest to the individual characters while at the same time none of this brings down the action and flow of the story line. Good film work, very high quality. Unless you just don't like westerns or can't stand the idea this movie bears the same name as a classic film you will highly enjoy it no matter if you were/are a fan of the original or not.

Great Reimagining of the great story
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me say that I love westerns, so I'm already biased towards this movie... and I love the original Magnificent 7, as well as the countless other stories that have the same theme (Seven Samurai for example...). This film did a great job of reimagining the magnificent 7 once again. it felt more modern and real. the story was generic but made you feel for the townspeople and for the heroes with tragic pasts... really great western action flick, go buy this and enjoy!

Enjoyable reboot of the classic story.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm a big fan of the original Magnificent Seven, as well as the original Seven Samurai which it was based on. I also enjoyed this version. The acting is top notch and features an assortment of interesting characters. It's no longer bandits or Mexican banditos that are the bad guys. It's a creepy land grabber, played by Peter Sarsgaard and his army of hired guns. Solid action film that's a lot of fun. Not a lot of thinking necessary. I enjoyed it and recommend it. Comes with a digital copy watchable on iTunes.

Not the magic of the original - still loads of FUN
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What can you say? Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, and on and on and on. Lots of star power. I really enjoyed Denzel's recruitment of allies to help defend the towns people from the robber baron. The character development of each recruited gunslinger was pretty cool. I was especially fond of Vincent D'Onofrio's portrayal of an ornery old mountain man. Anyway, there are enough gun fights and explosions for several westerns. My wife and I got a real kick out of watching this film. Glad I bought it.

great movie w/ decent steelbook
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.this is a remake of a remake of a remake. you likely are already familiar with the story, however i must say i enjoyed the direction that Fuqua took the film. all the actors put in admirable performances. my main qualm is moreso about the packaging as opposed to the film itself. there is no interior art on this steelbook - @ the price point ($30 at time of purchase) and being only one of the first few Best Buy exclusive steelbooks to include 4K, I would expect to have some sort of artwork on the interior - yes it's a minor issue - but i feel this should have certainly been added
