Manchurian Candidate is one of he best movies about international/political dirty dealing ever made. It's original release was pushed back because it would have coincided with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The plot is taut and disturbing in same ways, demonstrating the lengths that an enemy nation might go to to affect or control another nation's political system. There are great performances by Laurence Harvey and Frank Sinatra and an hallmark performance by Angela Landsbury as a mother nobody would want. The blu-ray picture quality is decent and the DTS HD-Master soundtrack serves the film well.

Amazingly complex drama, truly brilliantly directed and performed. Completely engrossing political thriller that welcomes multiple viewings. Sinatra is better in this than any other dramatic performance in his career, but Angela Lansbury is totally phenomenal as Laurence Harvey's diabolical mother, even though she was only a year or so older than he when it was filmed. DirectorJohn Frankenheimer provides informative commentary that deals with the themes of the plot as well as memories of the shooting. Not much is new on this disc in comparison with the older dvd, but the image is tremendously improved.

In the 56 years since this film was released in theaters, the film still is topical and eerily unnerving that such an event could occur today. Characters and political ideology may change, but ambition, mind manipulation and ruthless drive for power and control still are possible today. Beware!

Good old movie o how the human braine can be controled,

This is the first modern political thriller and still one of the best. It was pulled from distribution for more than 25 years after the Kennedy assassination. It looks great and has a lot of special features.

This was actually the first time I had ever been able to sit and watch this cold war espionage movie. It is definitely a must see time and era movie.

Original version with excellent performances by Frank Sinatra & Laurence Harvey. Great script with scary parallels to today's political climate.

The black and white classic jumps out anew with the blue ray detail. Lansbury, Sinatra, and Harvey weave a compelling movie.

Replaced my old DVD of this classic 1962 political paranoia thriller. Very nice B/W video and good audio along with the bargain price at Best Buy make this a must buy.

This is the original version of The Manchurian Candidate, starring Frank Sinatra. The term has been misused in the popular media, so everyone should watch this movie to understand its original use. After the JFK assassination in 1963, this movie disappeared from view for 25 years. It is amazing how well a 50-year-old movie can describe some modern-day politicians!
