It was amusing to see this movie win for Best Comedy that year, but even though it's actually more of a space drama, it's full of great comedic moments and real human emotion, definitely a must watch for folks that enjoy more thoughtful sci fi than usual fare, but maybe not as artsy as Gravity.

My boys and I can watch this movie over and over again. It's not the greatest movie ever. It is just very likable. So I finally bought the movie, the extended version AND on 4K blu ray for my new 4K player. Can't say too much on the 4K version. It was ok. I have a 4K TV but not with HDR. So to me it was just ok. But the movie though, well worth it.

Every time I come across this movie on TV I have to watch it--don't know why but just love it and never get tired watching it. So I finally got a 4k TV and bought the movie--NO commercials and seeing the movie in UHD just make it great!

One of the best movies of the year. Visually stunning, and the sound is phenomenal. The cast and crew are all top-notch. I did run into problems with my disc freezing. Best Buy replaced it with no issues.

Matt Damon is great in this movie and it's a great sci fi, part comedy with great affects and tells a great story. Damon is really good in this movie and it will hold you from start to finish. A definite must watch movie and the blu ray digital download package is great and the movie looks and sounds great and you can take it anywhere you go!

We recently upgraded to a 4k bluray player. The Martian was one of the 4k movies we bought to compare with the regular bluray version we already owned. WOW! Details we missed previously really stand out, the difference is night and day. The Martian is right up there for a good drama. Adding the 4k upgrade was icing on the cake.

The Martian has been my favorite book ever since it came out and now it is near the top of my favorite movie list, too. I thought the BluRay version of this film was good but my oh my, the 4K UltraHD copy is spectacular. If you like more realistic SciFi flicks, with just a touch of humor to keep it fun, you'll love The Martian.

This is a great movie , especially if you are into space. You can nitpick some science based mistakes but it's still a good space based movie. Many people do find the mistakes and completely dismiss the film, but you got to know this is not a documentary. People had the same problem with Apocolypto, and too I would say if you wanted true to life information then stay home and watch NatGeo or the discovery channel. I get discussing the mistakes in a science based movie , but saying it's a bad film because of it is just as bad, I mean at least it started a discussion about science,

I am not sure why I have watched this movie so many times, I have enjoyed the extra scenes that have been deleted from the theatrical version. if you can and like this movie then you should have it, the sound and HDR make a big difference.

Love this movie when it came out, so I'd been looking forward to owning it. Recent purchaser of a 4K television and Ultra HD blue-ray player. With the right cables and proper setup the result is fantastic! Better than being at the local Cineplex, since I don't have to deal with the couple next to me talking through the film!

The Martian is a great movie! If you haven't seen it, it's well worth watching, it's a Science Fiction movie with Drama. This is my secant 4K movie which are really nice clear sharp picture. Also has High Definition sound, which I thought was nice but not that much of an improvement over the great sound I already get.

He got lost or had to be found costing the US Tax payers Billions This time. By far one of his most expensive times getting lost. Not sure if this one or Interstellar cost the US Tax payers more. But he got lost again, he useed some fairly plausible science for the most part, that is always good, then he got rescued.... again.

A great demo movie for my 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos home theater with immersive audio to keep anyone glued to your seat. Entertaining and thrilling movie. Visually stunning! Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain makes this movie a winner.

I am a fan of Matt Damon and was hoping this didn't disappoint and it didn't. There are a few slow moments mixed in with some drama and bits of comedy sprinkled throughout. I found that I really enjoyed this movie in the theater and have since bought it and seen it a couple of times again. It is definitely worth a watch.

This is a great film, and one you can watch over and over because the special effects and sound are so great on the 4K UHD version. It's a story about human spirit and resourcefulness, much in the same vein as Apollo 13. After seeing this, I doubt I would want to go to Mars! Highly recommended!

I recently played the 4K HDR version of The Martian on my new SONY 75" 4K Model XBR-75X940E TV. This movie in 4K HDR is exceptional. The 4K HDR images were outstanding and so incredibly realistic that it felt like we were part of the action taking place in my media room. This was a 10* experience.

Many reviews said the demo movie for a new 4k HDR setup is The Reverant. While that movie is quite good, The Martian is the best test movie because it has numerous elements such as deep blacks of space, the red Martian surface, bold colors in the HAB instrumentation and several scenes to test the Atmos audio track.

Finally movies that are compatible with the 4K Ultra TV. It's like almost being there, everything is so sharp and vivid. You notice stuff that you normally wouldn't because of the crystal clear colors and clarity. It made this excellent movie even better, if that's possible. Highly recommend movie and in this format.

Excellent movie with stunning picture and sound. This is as close as you can get to exploring Mars! Some scenes are just absolutely incredible (the rover chase!). Nice 4k edition.

Excellent uhd bluray, colors while on Mars are amazing, showing the reds of the planet and HDR definitely adds to the picture! It comes with regular theatrical cut and directors cut. I liked the latter more for the few added scenes, they were funny. Sound is great too. Definitely a show piece for your 4k setup!
