This movie has a good blend of drama and humor. Damon is great as usual. Kate Mara is also good in a supporting role.

The story is simple: an astronaut is left behind on Mars and has to survive until a rescue mission can be mounted. Gorgeous, riveting, humorous, and uplifting (yes, it is), Ridley Scott's little marvel of a movie (based on an equally brilliant book) does everything it should just right while staying ahead of the audience without making them feel dumb -- not an easy task given the technical jargon necessary amongst rocket engineers. And who would have thought that Disco would be so suitable to the vast red sands of Mars? More than anything, Ridley has given us an intelligent and likeable Family Film that is inspiring in its belief in humanity and the human spirit. This film needs to be on everyone's watch list.

This movie is a lot of fun despite its premise. This is an enjoyable movie to watch with your whole family.

The Martin is a film for everyone. Parents can feel comfortable viewing with their children and grandparents and adults of all ages will be inthralled every moment of the way. A truly all star cast with amazing visuals guided by a remarkably original story. Under the phenomenal direction of Ridley Scott, who continues to prove he is the master of all cinema taking place in outer space, this film balances comedy, drama and action on both earth and mars creating one of the best films of the decade and one of Matt Damon’s best performances ever.

I expected a decent movie, but found this to be a great movie. Other than some mild swearing, it's appropriate for tweens and above (depending on your views on swearing). Matt Damon's character is definitely worth the few billion to save - at least for entertainment value. It's funny, dramatic, poignant, and you may learn a some about astronomy and Mars. I started listening to War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells afterwards - lo and behold a lot of names and facts are also in The Martian. I highly recommend this film and will watch it again with the rest of my family later this week. It will take me a while to get bored of this one. The rest of the characters are well cast and the movie is well acted. Buy it and Enjoy!

This movie had a good story, nice character development and the 3d added instead of distracted from the movie.

Sweet Movie.. Pins and needles all the way till the ending. Won’t be disappointed. Have your popcorn in hand.

If I was just reviewing the film, I'd give it 5 stars. I'm only commenting on the image quality, which for a UHD film is very good at times, and at others is okay. The source is only 2K, and I noticed quite a bit of artifacting in certain scenes. The 4K upscale just doesn't seem to be as good when compared to other titles. The redeeming quality is the color mastering. If you have a full 10-bit display (ie NOT an HDR premium display) for HDR, the color truly makes up for the resolution shortcoming. I would much prefer to have a lower resolution source, and amazing color. Instead of a full 4K source which mediocre color. If you love the film and have a true HDR TV, then this is worth the extra cash, plus you get an extra 15 minutes of film! If not, go ahead and buy the regular Blu Ray for half the price. Most 4K TVs have excellent upscaling, and you'd be missing out on the extra color depth regardless.

I must say, this movie was very well done. Being a fan of Matt Damon, I really enjoyed his performance in this movie. He gave you a true idea of what a person would do if alone on a strange planet. His sense of humor and one liners were classic. Good performances by all actors but Matt stole the show as it really focused on him. Think Tom Hanks in Castaway and this movie follows that blueprint. This is a movie I could watch over & over again and still enjoy it like it was the 1st time. Definitely add to your collection.

Nothing like a bit more to flesh out the story. Still exciting and enjoyable. A good collectors item.

Didn't expect this to be so good. Mars landscapes are immersive to watch, Damon steals the show.

It's scary to be marooned! Can you imagine what it could be like to be marooned on Mars? That's the synopsis of the book which became a much-talked about movie. And even though this is science fiction, it does border on science fact. A lot of research went into the book and transferred nicely to the movie. You would think a marooned movie would be lame, but it captures the imagination as to how can a person survive in a hostile environment not even thinking how long the survival could last! Damon carries the movie off incredibly well with his acting; the supporting cast was also excellent; the script is excellent as is the sfx and even the soundtrack (can anyone say disco?). Great movie!

Matt Damon delivers with this incredible performance. This movie is like Cast Away meets The Book of Eli.

This is a good movie. It avoids many of the common science fiction tropes to give us something different.

I remember when I first heard about this movie, I thought it was gonna be boring. I decided to rent it when it came out on DVD, and my family and I absolutely loved it. So much so, I went out and bought it on Blu Ray the very next day. I subsequently then bought both the 3D Blu Ray and the 4k Blu Ray, so you can see i REALLY like this movie! In addition to this being a great movie, I thought the picture and sound quality were outstanding. The picture is so sharp and has so much depth that it rivals any other 4K movie I've seen. The sound is just as good. This is now one of my favorite movies and the excellent picture quality has certainly helped it make that list.

I'll preface this by stating that The Martian is one of my favorite movies of the past 5-7 years. The cast, acting, comedy and "gravity" (pun intended) of the movie makes it so fun to watch. Having also purchased the UBP700 & HT-ST5000 Atmos 7.1.2 sound bar its like all Mars is now aligned with us to make the perfect storm. The 4k picture quality is simply phenomenal on this UHD disc. Add that to the stunning sound with Atmos and I find myself watching bits and pieces of this movie almost daily. If you are a fan of The Martian and have the TV/UHD BD player/Sound for this movie then this is a must buy.

This movie is way better than I thought it would be. Very fun to watch, and strangely compelling.

I really only bought it for Sebastian Stan. Was actually pretty good on learning new survival skills.

Ok, I'm sure the science isn't perfect–who knows what going to Mars will be like in a few decades–but "The Martian" delivers a realistic look on what dangers may await. This is basically Matt Damon's "Castaway"...he gets stranded on Mars and has to survive with meager supplies until a rescue mission can be launched. There are no alien encounters here, this is simply a survival drama. While "Gravity" delivers more eye-candy via its 3D presentation, I feel that this movie is probably the more solid space drama. I found myself continuously engaged despite the lack of action (that's a rarity for me). Definitely give it a watch...or a buy if you're a sci-fi aficionado.
