The Pacific War in World War II was grueling, ugly, and unrelenting. This show did an amazing job at portraying how an average joe Marine would experience the war. Following the stories of tree separate Marines over multiple large scale campaigns, this show dwelves deep into the grittiness of warfare and the psychological toll it takes on the warfighters. In my opinion, this was a way more eye opening show compared to Band of Brothers and my favorite of the two.

These men and women that serve is what makes America Great.

This is an excellent series depicting the lives of three Marines during the war in the Pacific Theater during the Second World War. It is based on the real lives of the people who fought and died in the war. It is filmed in the same way and produced by the same people as Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers. The historically accurate portrayal allows us to feel the intensity of combat as well as the emotions of those involved.

Another great series looking at WWII. Hanks and Spielberg pull no stops at action and fine attempts at what the war must have appeared like to those brave men who confronted the stress and horrors in person. For me, I could have done without so much none-battle zone story points. I realize it was meant to add depth to the series and characters. It seemed to "soap-opera-like". Not necessary for the overarching conflicts, characters, and purpose of the series. That doesn't mean I gave it a 4 for that reason. But, I'm really comparing it to the well-produced adaptation of "The Band of Brothers". If you haven't watched it, then you must if you think "The Pacific" is good.

This show is based on the Pacific War during World War 2. It shows the story of three friends who go to war together, but not all come back home. In a different story line it shows a story of two friends who go at different times and the changes they go through from innocent people to roughened up marines. It's scored by the brilliant Hans Zimmer and unfortunate tragedies of soldiers fighting to end the war. If you liked Band of Brothers, you'll like this one.

Hopefully you have seen this already. Great true story with a lot of emotion and action. The series goes a bit more in-depth into the characters than Band of Brothers with the last episodes being less action more drama. Watching on Blu-ray is such a large improvement over the DVD. I would rather watch the Blu-ray than the HBO HD on-demand version and for the Black Friday price of $10 why wouldn't you buy. Enjoy.

Like its predecessor, "Band of Brothers," "The Pacific" provides modern-era Americans a dramatic, 'viewer-friendly' glimpse (& dare I say, education?) of the logistics, day-to-day and moment-by-moment struggles, and the horrific realities of a world at war. For 'history buffs,' military history enthusiasts, students and collectors of World War Two history, and even those with general interest in well-made war films--historic or otherwise... This set will definitely please.

This side of WWII, not many has been talked about where the US troops worked rather hard to fight in the frontlines and many losses along the way. Thank you for your service and all your efforts never has been forgotten. It's good in the 20th century after the war in the future trade-relations with Japan-US has not faltered and effortless. I hope everyone can enjoy this HBO series; I sure did.

This mini series is outstanding! Every episode is action packed and emotionally moving. If you are into WWII or history shows, you will like it, but it also goes into the personal lives of these young soldiers and what they were facing and not just the fighting. The soundtrack is great, the dialogue is on point, the combat scenes are breath taking, and the acting is top notch. Watch this series, you won't regret it.

I got it home, unwrapped it, and binge watched it. The last disc had the extra's on it. If you like history, and especially war history, this one's for you. All during this one and Band of Brothers, I kept thinking that there was a whole other war going on in a whole different part of the world at the same time. Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg are attached. Horrifying and incredible. Definitely one to own.

I watched this after watching the Band of Brothers. While I felt it did not reach the level of Band of Brothers it is still a fine production. The extras are excellent as was the $10 sale price I found at Best Buy. Would recommend watching The Pacific then Band of Brothers if you have not seen either.

I LOVE WAR/MILITARY MOVIES! THIS SERIES REMINDED ME OF "BAND OF BROTHERS" AND I TRULY ENJOYED IT. THE SERIES WAS SO GOOD I WATCHED IT ALL THE DAY I BOUGHT IT! IF YOU LIKED "BAND OF BROTHERS" YOU WILL LIKE "THE PACIFIC" INDEED. IT DEFINITELY DEPICTS THE HORRORS OF THE PACIFIC BATTLE BETWEEN THE U.S. MARINES AND THE JAPANESE. EXCELLENCE IN CONVEYING THE BRUTAL REALITIES OF WHAT OUR MARINES HAD TO ENDURE ASSOCIATED WITH WAR.

If you have ever seen "Saving Private Ryan", or "Band Of Brothers", you will be happy to know that you will experience the same kind of extremely high quality storytelling, cinematography, and thrills that you get in the previously mentioned productions. The story and action will draw you in, and tug at your emotions every second.

'The Pacific' rates as one of the best mini-series ever produced. While 'Band Of Brothers' covered the exploits of a single unit in Europe during W.W.II, 'Pacific' follows three marines through the horrific battles against the Japanese as the U.S. fought their way from island stronghold to island stronghold. A terrific cast, great production values, and a strong script highlight this top notch historical drama.

when I saw both saving private ryan and band of brothers, I was blown away by the near realism. real combat isn't quite as cinematic. it is as close as can be without being there. it relays the fear, insanity, and (dare i say), futility of war. the pacific is a cinematic and storytelling gem that adds to the crown of great war movies. I hope mr. Spielberg and mr. hanks makes more movies about distant wars.

If your into these WWII series then this one you have to have. The set itself is great and a pleasure to have. It comes in the similar Tin Case setup as the "BAND OF BROTHERS" Series but not as large (The Pacific is 1/2 inch shorter). The series is 10 parts and the set contains 6 Blue ray Disc with exclusive features included. Well done series and will fit nice in your collection.

This series does an excellent job of portraying the demands and sacrifice placed upon US Marines during the struggle for control of the Pacific islands during WWII. Taken largely from memoirs of Marine mortar man Eugene Sledge and others who were there. The result is a gritty realism and entertaining portrayal. Recommend purchasing the series- you'll want to see some parts more than once.

Where The Pacific takes a new direction from its "older brother" is in its depiction of the lives of soldiers who were picked to return home to increase the sales of war bonds.

The Pacific is quite different than Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks Band of Brothers. There is more setup on life back home. The Pacific starts slowly building the background of where and who the characters are. It invests you in their lives and builds a strong personal bond with you. It's a very emotional experience and exacts a strong toll. Outstanding production, outstanding acting and directly.
