Overall, the Purge is an ok horror/suspense movie. I honestly did not like the premise of the movie and if I had to do it again would not have purchased the movie, even though it was recommended by a friend.

With a good overall concept, the film didn't go in the direction it should have. I believe the filmmakers realized this, and have made up for it in the sequel.

Over- rated not as good as advertised. If you haven't seen it, don't rush to get it.Wait until it's out on Netflix or something...A real waste of twenty dollars.

I was forced to watch this by my Girlfriend. There are a lot of parts that are exciting, but in general...this movie was not good at all.

Took until last 30 minutes of movie for anything to happen. Do not buy this movie unless throwing money away is important to you.

The concept of a free for all murder night is great but this movie doesn't cover that at all. It is predictable and the plot is weak. Spoiler alert- a bunch of random stupid things happen. Then the movie ends. I wouldn't even get this movie if it were free.

The opening title screen says it best. "America. 2022. Unemployment is at 1%. Crime is at an all-time low. Violence barely exists... with one exception." By redesigning the government with the new political party, the New Founding Fathers of America, the new national holiday, known as the Purge, the United States has become a utopia for many. On this night, there are no rules; anything goes. As the story follows a rich, upper-class family prepare for the Purge, we see the country lockdown as the sirens and EBS sound. But then, an unexpected turn of events occur. The son disarms the security system to the house and lets a homeless man being chased by a group of masked purgers into the house. As the purgers make their message clear, "Give him to us, or we'll kill all of you," the Sandins must decided whether to give in and participate in the Purge, or defend themselves from the evil that has gripped the country. The Purge offers many things that modern films don't, and with the The Purge: Anarchy on its way this June, it's not a film that many should pass on.

In this day of age, original horror films are hard to come by. It seems as if the same ideas keep getting recycled over and over again. When I first heard of The Purge, I was excited. It's story was something fresh and original. Unfortunately after seeing the film, that excitement was quickly dismissed. The story was a great idea but failed to deliver. It just didn't work. It needed something more. I believe with a better plot, The Purge could of been a classic. I was honestly dissapointed I purchased this film. It has no replay value what so ever. Watching it once is enough, after that there's really no point. As far as audio and video quality are concerned with the blu ray, Ths Purge delivers. Picture is clear and the blacks look good. The surround speakers do their job with great accuracy and good atmospheric sounds. Overall, I wouldn't reccomend buying this film. It's worth a watch, but do yourself a favor and rent it.

Wow! This movie is really, really interesting...it is an excellent sci-fi for a situation that would not only be scary but is almost surreal in other areas of the world

The idea seemed really neat.. but unfortunately it doesnt hold up. Characters are generally unlikeable, not too much interesting stuff happens and it all takes place within the same house. Seems like it had a lot of promise but just didn't go far enough with it - hopefully the sequal holds up a bit better since it takes place outside.

This is a good movie although it is sick and twisted, I enjoyed it.
