Wow, what can I say? Simply put: THE REVENANT deserved the BEST PICTURE Award. It is truly a journey and and you couldn't ask for a better film. The 164 minute run-time flies by as the audience stays captivated by the beauty, the wild, the horror (at times) and the awe of this total masterpiece. I must say the ONLY way to watch THE REVENANT is at the least on 1080p Blu-Ray format...and if you're lucky enough (or wealthy enough) to have a 4K television, this is one film that I personally guarantee to cough up the extra few bucks for the UHD 4K Blu-Ray...It will be the first film (along with AVATAR, when available..) that I will re-purchase. Get ready for a treat! Highly recommended!!!

Hard work pays off in the end. The Revenant was filmed in harsh conditions in the wilderness, and it shows. In fact, many crew members quit, after a period of time making this film. The result is an authentic feeling of being there with the characters, as they fight to stay alive against long odds. It seems the whole movie is either in the water, or in snow. I really like Oscar winner Emmanuel Lubezki's camera work on in-your-face close-ups, and vast open spaces. The Revenant exhibits a dream-like feel to it, with matching stunning visuals. Don't confuse this with a face paced action movie, it's not. It's just a moving, visually stunning, masterpiece. That's all. Best Picture winner indeed.

This is set in the North American west of about 200 years ago, with the English, French and various tribes of Native Americans all fighting with one another for animal pelts. The worse adversaries however, as the Leonardo DiCaprio character finds out, is a bear and the winter climate. The DiCaprio character goes through a truly brutal attack with a bear and subsequent efforts to survive when left to die. His main human antagonist is the Tom Hardy character, who leaves DiCaprio to die alone. Hardy does a great job a being completely evil in an environment that promotes being completely evil. DiCaprio deserved his Oscar for his performance, but Hardy deserves a high recognition, too.

Simply put, The Revenant is a masterpiece. Cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki (Gravity, Birdman) succeeded, once again, in creating a beautiful work of art. In my humble opinion, I believe he deserves his third Academy Award in a row. The Revenant has been largely promoted as a revenge tale. However, it's more than just a revenge tale. It's a story about a father's love for his son, and his determination, through many intense hardships, to bring justice to his son's killer. It's not a happy tale, but it's still full of beauty. It certainly would not have had the same effect without the captivating performances of both Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy.

The Revenant is one of those movies that gets better the more you watch it. Although some might not consider this the best movie that Leonardo has been in, he does a great job making the viewer feel the challenges of survival in the wilderness. I've seen both the 4K and Blu-ray versions of this movie and the 4K version is phenomenal with detail and color depth. Water, leaves, clothing, and skin texture really pop with the 4K version. Keep in mind that this movie is story driven, not action. The bear scene will leave you not wanting to go into the woods, the same way Jaws kept people out of the ocean, at least not without a really big gun.

There is only so much that can be said about a disc product other than it either worked or didn't after purchase. This one worked. So instead I'll comment on the film, briefly. This is the film that saw Leo finally clinch an Oscar win, and it certainly is no terrible performance, far from it. However, it is not exactly the most enjoyable of Leo's roles. The entire film is pretty grim, forgive my use of "pretty." It is starkly bleak, and not just because of what happened to Leo's character. The story is a revenge story, set in a grim time period, in a grimmer setting, and I doubt many people will watch this film and claim it as their favorite. Technically it is well produced, and Leo's [performance was well acted, but as I said, this is not an enjoyable film. I recommend that anyone curious about this film rent it first. If you want to see it a second time, then buy it. Otherwise rent this flick. It's one of those, like Twelve Years a Slave, that is well produced and directed, but depressing to watch over and over again.

I don't know where to start. If you want to test out the capabilities of your 4K Blu Ray Player, this is where to start. With an Arri Alexa 65MM Camera, Digital Intermediate in 4K, and 7.1 Sound, this is better than theatre like experience. I felt like I was on the set. The disc should be a mandatory first purchase for everyone who wants to try out their 4K Player. As for the movie, PHENOMENAL! From start to finish, you feel like crying, you feel anger, you feel like helping, everything. This movie is the most touching one I have seen and has provided me with a new experience on how to purchase movies. Excellent!

This is Leonardo DiCaprio at his best complimented by a great villain in Tom Hardy. The slightly based on a true story movie, has Leonardo DiCaprio playing a guide for European settlers in the New World. Settlers are trying to make their way through rough areas for pelt and avoiding native american tribes. The tribes are portrayed as violent, as are the settlers. Leonardo Dicaprio's character is left for dead after an incident with a grizzly bear, and his group trying to get to an area for safety, a member of the settlers betrays him, which turns into a revenge story. An amazing looking film with a load of Blu Ray extras.

Leo brought home the gold, and rightly so! He's been a fave of mine since the early 2000s, and it's not hard to see why: the man simply WILL NOT QUIT KILLING HIMSELF to bring you the best he has!! And Tom Hardy, though not a fave of mine until Mad Max: Thunder Road, similarly seems determined to torture himself half to death in order to tell an INSANELY COMPELLING tale of a scout and a trapper, at each other's throats in the mountains , rivers, and valleys of Indian Country. I highly recommend anyone with a hunger for historical figures who were put through the wringer by nature to BUY THIS ONE. Not to be missed!!!
